I can't comment on the fire stations and the egg box as I'd just be guessing, I don't know what their rationale was but it may have been driven by technology,

This could be complete cobblers, but I was under the impression that they* wanted to list the egg box, architecture of the time, etc etc, but that it was so badly built it was falling down on its own anyway.

* whoever they would be.

Probably because they are quality engineered vehicles and every British car made was shit.

Not the case anymore, you're stuck in a time warp. The Nissan factory in Sunderland is reputed to be the most productive factory in Europe and 80% of its cars are exported. Same with JLR. Some one likes them.

Found it. It's the Albert Inn, Sutherland Street. Although I know Sutherland Street pretty well I can't for the life of me think where exactly this was.

Also, has the white car (Vauxhall Victor?) been sliced in two in a terrible accident, or did it simply fall apart making the turn into the side street?

Corner Pin on the corner of Carlisle street and Lyons street. Back half of the van sticking out of what I think maybe Forncett st, is where we'd play footy til dinner/tea/bed time. On the piece of spare ground above the van, we put up a bonfire for nov 5. Pulled a good crowd and then run out of
wood. Chucked an old settee and some car tyres on. D'oh !

The Owen building of the Sheffield City Polytechnic was built in 1967. It seems as though this was the initial stages of that building.

The Owen Building is a little further along Arundel Gate and out of shot to the right of this picture.

The site being cleaned is for what became the Top Rank Suite, Fiesta and multi storey car park.

There is another shot of Pond Street on Picture Sheffield from the station end which is almost identical to this (possibly the same day?) and that is dated 1968

Think it was very close to Norfolk Bridge end of Sutherland Sty.

Spent many hours in this pub, Albert Inn on Sutherland St. I worked across road in Firth Browns Norfolk bar mill for a period in the 70's and the Albert was our preferred boozer, great pint of magnet kept by Len Roe, the landlord at that time.
The millhands preferred the Plumpers (Tetley house) across road.
Us maintenance men had more discerning tastes.
