Time for a change

Coutts is too easy an excuse. If non of the lads can suitably fill in then obviously a replacement will need to be found but the rest of the lads need to have a word with themselves. Were the furthest from a one man team iv ever seen us be and Coutts injury is not a good enough excuse for the drop in performances. Iv no doubt Wilder will at least keep us up there until January where he needs to be backed. But our defense are letting themselves down and I hope baldock being back will steady things up by bringing basham back in the middle. Personally I'd change the back 3 to the old team of bash, JOC and wright and even possibly switch moore back in.

I don't think it's a case of being a one man team but of having no proper replacement. Take one cog out of a machine and it'll cease to work, even though it's just a cog.

Changing the team too much and too often is precisely the problem.

This. Why leave Wright out and Sharp? We've had a weeks rest just don't get it. Against Forest and QPR we had midweek matches but no reason to change today. Wrights organisation was missed. O'Connell had a poor game last year against Millwall and without Wright alongside him today seems to have dipped again. We've had a lot of injuries but we need to play a settled side up to the New Year.

Not been convinced by him since he arrived. A couple of half decent games but several poor ones. He seems to make several mistakes every game.

It’s EEL all over again. Makes one bad mistake and it seems to shatter his confidence for the next month.

I’d go with giving Fleck the Coutts role. Not sure about Bash in midfield, I know he played there at the sty but Coutts ran the midfield that day, he isn’t there now and Bash could looked a bit exposed there now.

Yeah im not sold with Basham in the middle either but he would offer us energy and strength which we lack at the moment.

To be honest I think that the right back issue is perhaps as big as the Coutts thing. Basham puts everything in to it but positionally he gets caught out and without a ball winner in midfield it means we are easy to break against. I would like to see how we fare with Baldock back before thinking about changing systems

Agree Moore should come in, everything that goes at Jamal seems to go in, he's also not a talker, we need that leadership from the GK the way the defence are leaking silly goals.
Made a good save in the first half to his left, don't think he was at fault for the goals. Regarding Stearman I thought he had a decent first game back.

At the moment it's just a bad run. I don't think whole sale changes are needed at all. A few tweaks are necessary mainly having a genuine right back fit and taking Carter Vickers out. Solving the Coutts conundrum is obviously the most difficult thing. I don't think Lundstram did bad at all today but he's not adding enough creativity or protecting the back 4 enough right now. I think our options at the moment are playing Fleck in the Coutts role and Carruthurs given a go or Basham in midfield and a slight change of play that helps protect the back 4.
no teeaks necessary .. back to basics. last seasons winning line up. enda can stay in lundstrum for coutts.. i’d even consider lafferty at right back at least he understands the system

Yep Bash can do a job at wingback but doesn’t really have the legs for it. Baldock a big miss at the mo.

I thought Lundstram was our best player today, but even then he didn’t do enough. We were woeful all over the park. With Coutts gone we simply seem to be throwing games away. He had a massive, irreplaceable impact on how we played and how good we were at it. If we can grind 6 points out between now and January it will be a good return and then we need to make the additions needed to change it up.

We can’t and won’t replace Coutts

All true but with one caveat - Coutts is the engine that drives the cogs

They only had 4 shots on target though and scored 3, conversion rate of shots on target against us is too high. The way Moore commands the defence is far superior and for me is needed.

We had the same scenario in January and came through it. Now is not the time for panic changes, just a couple of tweaks, getting Baldock back to right back being one of them.

no need to panic! We weren't very good today, but we were in a false position, we don't have the strength and depth to continue staying top two. But could give a good go at top six, which would be a fantastic achievement. So, as hard as it is to lose, we have to get behind the team. They are trying there best.

Baldocks imminent return is the only saving grace. We're nothing down the right and even less in defence.
This is a big factor.

Basham has been great at RCB but is now having to cover RWB, so we are weakened twice at the moment. Coutts is a loss but may feel less important when we've sorted the right side out.

Only our second genuinely poor performance of the season, the other being QPR.

The defence is the one thing that's worrying me. We look ragged at times.

Changing formation etc is totally uncalled for. Actually we've tried that after going behind against Fulham and today and we looked worse if anything. Quite poor today overall but it's a matter of tweeks not a total overhaul needed.

We can't get Baldock back quick enough to let us get Bash as RCB. CCV seems to be a mistake waiting to happen at the moment which seems to be spreading to the whole defence. That said the midfield is not helping the defence just now either how many goals have we conceded from 20-25 yards on our right recently ? Going forwards we are slow and ponderous and no one seems to be confident to take on and beat their man one on one resulting in pass pass pass without any penetration. We have to freshen things up in January and get some pace in the side otherwise the season is in great danger of fizzling out to a mid table finish.

So we’ve lost Coutts and haven’t won in three and the pessimism kicks in. Wilder is not perfect and will make mistakes but we are in a fantastic position still and plenty of promotion contenders have a wobble. Plenty of us have seen it all before. It’s time for a bit of calmness and regrouping. Players will come back into the equation and we have a full transfer window to strengthen. Long way to go yet

Says it all, pig neighbour is happy because they've got a point against Hull and we've lost.

They only had 4 shots on target though and scored 3, conversion rate of shots on target against us is too high.
I've not seen today's game or the highlights but this is useless usage of bad stats - did Blackman have a chance with any of them? Were the shots taken high percentage chances or speculative efforts?

I deal in facts not emotion and the fact is without Coutts we've not won against three teams we'd have expected to beat....

In Tufty I trust, but he needs to start scheming a solution...

I don't go with all this "in Tufty we trust" stuff. He's like every other manager I've known, good or bad over 55 years. He makes mistakes and he has a tendency to support players he buys because to do otherwise would show him as a failure. Even Saint John Harris made mistakes.

At least Wilder admits its a possibility. Just said on RS that he put Stearman in to counter a physical threat and whether that was a mistake is up for debate. Sure is.

Fair play to the pigs, to be that shit after spending so much money takes some doing.

I've not seen him so happy in ages, bubbles burst and all that shit. I might pop around and shag his missis again later when he's asleep.

ridiculous comment.. i was merely stating fact
No more ridiculous than ignoring that the2 most significant changes are down to them wearing said pots

How many games has Stearman played to warrant being written off?
Baldock has looked better than Freeman
Should Brooks be getting game time?

The reality is that enforced changes have disrupted us (Coutts out/ Bash --> RB) coupled with oposition looking to counteract our strengths ( exploit lesser strengths eg lack of pace) ref Fulham counter attacking @ pace ;/ Brum defending desperately / superbly ;M/wall out working us

i’m not writing anyone off at all i think you have decided i am trying to blame someone.. what i am trying to say is that when ‘that’ 11 dont play for whatever reason, we aren’t as good.. why is that? ( genuine question)

I totally agree!

We are not good enoughtfor the top 2, & top 6 would be beyond fabulous, but we should not be dissapointed at failing to get there. A couple of years strenghening the team may be the best option, because virtually no one is good enough for the league higher, should the miracle happen. Enjoy the journey, everyone loses & has good & bad runs, its football. I'm not sure that adding 4 players in the JTW would guarantee top 6, because football at our level is not like that. The players are trying their best [although CW has just slated them on Radio Sheffield, saying we deserved nothing & we were outfought]. Lets remember that CW has only been in post for 17 months.

BUT.......One real issue is the defence, of the top 10 clubs only Leeds 25 & Ipswich 30 have conceded more goals [SUFC 24]. Of the last 6 games we have lost 3 & conceded 12 goals, & its the goals conceded column that is killing us, some of them very poor ones from bad defending. The return of Freeman or Baldock at RT WB may make a difference, but it seems to be the 3 CB's & possibly GK that are causing most concern. One thing that never changes is that with a clean sheet you do not lose, & we cannot keep clean sheets. So with all the talk about bringing players in during January it is the defence where our real issues lie.

Interestingly Bristop City [who at this moment are ahead of us on goal difference have only lost 3 games, as have Wolves & Cardiff]. Basically our defence is not good enough to get us promoted, whereas the attack & midfield possibly are!
