yes we are - only question is when.

Why, you think we can keep him?

Well... going on our history on selling players? but hopefully this is a new era! If we are top 8 come January we should push on with additional players, so then why would we sell? CW’s choice, but if we want to progress then we have to keep talented players. We could sell him for ?million and then spend 1.5 mil on some player, put a bit aside for running costs and then stick the rest of the money in some bank account never to be seen again, now that sound like the old United or may be not!?

He’s on the bench!?!

I was told on here last week that we’d rested him against Forest because he would be playing for Wales.

Having said that though the person who said it has a history of making shit up :oops:

Freemans even less Welsh than Brooks! I looked at Wales's squad and 11 players are born in England but have drunk a pint of Brains Best Bitter to qualify! Fair play to Wales, and in 99% of cases the Welsh team isn't as good as ours but Brooks may well be the exception. Either way. what Wales lack in top quality, they make up for in desire for the shirt, the manager, their team mates and the fans.

England could learn a lot from Wales to be honest, but then again they have a decent manager - we don't.

I think he will get on ,even for a cameo appearance purely so he cant change his mind and join gareths galacticos.

Caught a bit of an interview with Ian Rush on BBC 5L this morning, he said he'd spent some time with the squad this week and that Brooks was one of three had that impressed him whilst watching them train.

He's fearless. His laid back attitude (not complacent) in the Derby was way beyond his years and match day experience. Coleman at some stage (not last 2 minutes) should send him on and just tell him to run at defenders.

Scare 'em witless and allow Southgate the opportunity to realise this is a bigger miss than when he took that penalty in 1996.

It's a very interesting dilemma - and I am going to test you with an alternative.

It's probably fair to say (with hindsight of course) that DCL and Adams were sacrificed and it led to promotion.

I appreciate it's a difficult call - and lets just speculate a bit - we keep Brooks for 2/3 years and develop him but he runs down his contract or we cash in and lets just assume someone is daft enough to put £20m on the table (in the summer when most big transfers take place) which enables us to have a real go at getting into the Prem next season.

It would be a really tough call - and yes, some would jump on the bandwagon of selling etc - but like everything it's a gamble.

Personally I'd take it - bird in the hand for me.

I reckon were having a go this season with him in the squad ,he would definitely be a 20 million player in the premiership

My thoughts, are that Brooks I’ll stay this season and what happens after that will depend on where we finish.

Go up....happy days, he signs a new contract and we keep him as long as we are in the premier league, or someone else offers a seriously silly amount of money.

No promotion, then I think he will be sold to fund a real push for promotion.

Yes 20 million at the start of next season sounds great! But honestly do you imagine the board spending the 20 mil on a player or 2 or 3? I think that the best we (the fans) could expect to spend would probably be only around 8 mil and the rest would go on running cost or disappear? so if Brooks turns out to be that ‘Special player’ worth 20 mill (and we should have a better idea by March 2018) then it would be best to just keep him + CW is not the kind of manager that would want to spend 20 million! It’s not his style. Also realistically the board should not need to sell to invest in the team next season. But I would imagine If Brooks has a great World Cup with Wales and gets his head turned then he will probably move on and United would cas£-in, our board couldn’t, or wouldn’t resist! Because that’s what we are :(

All 3 Welsh subs used and they need two goals.... Cant help but think our Brooksy would’ve either created or scored. He destroyed the massive so the Ireland defence would be insignificant in comparison!

Does this mean he can still elect to play for England if he wishes?

Well, if Wales don't qualify then they will have 2 empty playing spots in the November international break - ideal for Brooks to get a cameo appearance then - doubt he would start though unless he bangs a few goals v Ipswich and Reading.

Not sure on the ruling. If he hasn’t worn a shirt in competition/friendly for the senior team he may still be eligible?

Jonny Williams or David Brooks?? No brainer....

I think this answers the Q;

Article 5. Principle
Second Paragraph
With the exception of the conditions specified in article 8 below, any Player who has already participated in a match (either in full or in part) in an Official Competition of any category or any type of football for one Association may not play an international match for a representative team of another Association.This means that once the player has represented the national team in official competition, they may not change nationalities.

Thanks. But, thinking about it, would anyone want to play for Southgate?

Put it this way, I’d have rather had him on the pitch than Ramsey this evening...

Brooks will get his chance, most likely next friendly. This was all about getting him familiar with the squad.

Amazing what you find on the FIFA website;

Article 1889, Appendix CW/AK
Second Paragraph
With the exception of the conditions specified in article 75 below, any Player who has already participated in a match (either in full or in part) in an Official Competition of any category for a “massive” club clad in blue and white, or who’s owner has soldeth one million tins of seafood, may not play a match for a representative team of another citeh club wearing the hallowed red and white stripes.This means that once the player has represented a porcine team in official competition, they may not be entered in to the BDTBL hall of fame.

And I thought FIFA were wrong uns all these years....
