Just twigged that my Mother in Laws long planned 80th Birthday do is on Friday 27th October.

The night we play Leeds on Sky.

What to do.. :(

On the 25th, start coughing. Man flu will be developing, and as we all know, it’s a terrifying disease that you wouldn’t want your dear mother-in-law to catch, it may just see her off.

If it was mother I'd say do the right thing but since it's mother in law, watch the match!

Where the fuck is this place with no WiFi.....the feckin shetlands?

Tell her she best find a solution to the internet issue or you won’t be there.

Tell them that you know she would really enjoy her birthday best as just a purely girlie night, so they can all talk their arses off - so you'll pay for that and then she can go round for a separate dinner with each of the family groups over the next few weeks.

Either that or get Keith round to tell her to get back in the fucking kitchen and you'll be back after closing.

Take her out for a meal and book the table under the tv, tell ur lass it was the only one available n spend the night stairing over her shoulder and ignoring any knitting or baking conversations taking place. Job done.

We've had this one mate, a few weeks ago. There was a whole thread on how to avoid going out on some elderly relative's birthday. Some good suggestions in there too. Worth checking it out.

Couldn't you nip out to the pub for a bit to watch the match then go back? That's what I did when I attended a wedding on the same day we played Stevenage away in the playoffs in 2012.

could be worse you could be in Disney land Paris in one of there hotels and not a cat in hells chance of watching it at all :(

Are you seriously asking this question? I'd wish her a happy birthday in a card which you can send with the old dear, and then get yourself off to the match or the pub to watch the Wizards. There is no fkin way that I would go to my mother in laws birthday bash if Utd were playing. Jusy can't be done and is not on my radar. Tbf it takes me all my time to turn up once a year at Xmas time and pretend to be interested in what the old bat rattles on about. If it was her funeral.....then I might shoehorn it in at half time.

The answer is simple just see if Chris or Chelsea will record it on their phone and play it back when you get back from the match. Your mother in law might like to see are-run of her party too:):)

I know someone who would notice.

If she is 80, she will remember world war 2, can't you just tell her you have had your call up papers to go and do some national service, then the next day turn up and say they didn't need you after all?

make yourself 'seen' at the beginning and then make yourself scarce for a bit.. make yourself 'seen' at the end. they'll not even notice you're not there too busy yapping
