I went a few times the steps were endless going up ,but came down a bit lively a few times ,never once did I not see a scrap in there. It then became Rebels ,Charlie Harper and UK subs seemed to be on every week ,one of the strangest nightclubs Sheffield ever had.

Angelic Upstarts first gig, it kicked off........

Met Charlie Harper, their first gig in Sheffield, 1979 I guess.

Wasn't at the Penthouse one Thursday night with a stag night from Wakefield either. Early seventies.

I have just finished of a packet of these tasty crisps.

Presumably, the picture of the building on the packet is the original premises used by Henry Henderson?

A wee bit too young for the skins
But 100% suedehead 71-72
The revivalists as always play at it.

What about the lads who straddled both era's? I wore loafers and brogues (complete with heels and soles full of "Seggs") and sta-prest aged about 10, in the early 70's, and then did the same around 1977 (prior to the mod/skin revival of 1979) when I first saw The Jam, "In the City" tour, Top Rank.

Sunderland away, always reminds me of the game when Hodges headbutted a Sunderland player, and we played in all white, think Jock scored the winner
Yeh I remember that pal , wasn't that part of the 7 game winning on the trot under Bassett in first season in old first div ? My first visit was Boxing Day 86 I think , it was fkg freezing on away end couldn't wait to get back in boozer !

Great picture. Used to love finding an unbroken biscuit in amongst them. What a find!
They used to get broken as in those days all biscuits used to be sold loose from tins on display which had hinged lids.
Davy's in Fargate used to have a huge range of biscuits in tins and also loose.
Sometimes one could find whole biscuits as well.
Money was very tight in those days and food shopping was done on very limited sums.

Whilst we're on about broken biscuits, anyone who is familiar with this building half way up Shrewsbury Road will be interested to know this used to be a boiled sweet factory. Locals used to call it the rock factory. When we were kids, we used to go in with whatever we had, a penny, tuppence or whatever, and they would scoop up the broken bits, bag them up and send you on your way. Occasionally you got a couple of intact pieces in your bag, and yeah, that was like a lottery win!

Do not know that one but recall Ronksley ice cream in Coal Aston.
Used to ride my bike there for an iced lolly.

The factory brickwork was very dark, almost black years ago. Didn't realise it had been renovated.

Boiled sugared fishes.......

It fell into disrepair about 40 years ago, roof caved in, the lot. It was then re-built to its original state (it might be a listed building) and used as some kind of council building. They got fed up with it being burgled every 5 mins and sold to a private buyer. I haven't seen too much coming and going there but judging by the tidy little vegetable plot adjacent to the building, someone's taking care of it.
