After last season getting things right, it appears that Wilder and his staff will have to get the big decisions right again this year. I think the main conundrum at the moment is that there is little realistic chance of a single signing who will replace a member of our first eleven and make an immediate impact. We played a settled team and system last season, and as a result we have perhaps 14 players who can play this system well against weaker teams, but who will probably find it hard against the better teams. Our squad players are at the moment struggling, as they are lacking game time in a competitive situation through injury (Lavery), enforced absence (Evans), inexperience (Brooks), time needed to adjust (Lundstram), etc. I have seen the back-up squad 3 times (Matlock, Walsall, Leicester), and they have filed to impress, and it is difficult to give them proper game time to get them up to scratch. Managers nowadays are given no time to develop players, but the less the squad players are involved, the less likely they are to be effective when called upon. This is particularly acute with strikers - we cannot afford the ridiculous fees they command, but we clearly need strengthening there. After the enormous success of last year, it will be a huge task to build a squad able to take us to the top half of the league this year. Anything better than mid-table I would regard as a great achievement. But after last year, who knows...?

Wilder apparently said he's aiming to get 2 new additions through the door next week but is "pushing for 3 or 4".
To be honest I've never heard a manager sound so ambitious in the run up to deadline day. Be interesting to see who lands.

The hooks in the water, but with any bait, will there be a bite!!??

3 or 4:

Bids for Michael Brown, Dan Burn, Sam Morsy and Ryan Leonard.

DON'T YOU TELL ME I CAN'T DREAM.

Wigan made Burn and Morsy captain and vice captain and I think they did that to keep them from wanting to join the Blades!
