Gone Elsewhere Conor Coady

And I agree with you Woodwardfan. Although we will be in a minority expressing this opinion. A lot of fans seem to look back upon Coady's time here with great affection for him. I saw United play most games that season home and away. I can remember two or three games where he really stood out for us and looked the real deal - the rest I thought he was a decent player but nothing out of the ordinary. Put it this way, if we are going off shopping to the West Midlands, I'd rather we cut the journey short and stop off at Walsall and bring back Erhun Oztumer (Or Ot Zooma as Jonny Leeds kept calling him last night). I really like that lad, very creative and talented, something a bit different. Whereas Coady is your "utility man" - and I've never really liked "utility men" - Jack of all Trades an' that.

Though three full seasons have passed since he last played for us as a young lad on loan from Liverpool!
I suspect his game, understanding of the game and even his strength and body shape have developed considerably in those three seasons

Conor Coady -52 games last season 1 goal 2 assists. Now labelled as a 'defensive midfielder'. He got up and down the pitch for us but I always thought he lacked assertiveness and a final telling contribution. Time will tell if he signs.

Played the majority of last season at right back.

I still don't see this happening as I merely think it's a ruse to get Blackburn pushed in the right direction.

Would obviously prefer Coady though IF he's available.

There a lot of logic to this move.

To have Coady and Basham in the squad means we could do away with pursuing both Lehihan and Leonard.

One less player to accommodate and keep happy, plus you are not asking one player to shake off relegation and be better and the other to step up. You would have a bona fide Championship performer.

The move might make sense for him too. The direction Wolves are going, with Mendes so heavily involved and foreign coaches does not necessarily lend itself to longevity for Coady there, regardless of whether he's done ok filling in at centre back for them.

Let's see where it goes, but Wilder doesn't seem the type to waste his own time. And Agents talk. There must have been an inkling there was some appetite for this to happen, from player or club, or it would not have got to the point of placing a bid.

Spot on. Southend want a £1m for Leonard. Blackburn want a minimum £2m for Lenihan. Might as well start with a £2m bid to test the waters. Hopefully get him for £2.5m or £3m? Coady? Or Lenihan and Leonard? It really is a no brainer.

How long is it since you saw any of them play 90 minutes football? Have you ever watched Leonard or Lenihan? I haven't.Just a thought.

But Oztumer is smaller than Reed and even smaller than Fleck, can't be any good surely!!;):):)

I watched Coady for a full season, and I know for a stonewall fact that he hasn't gone backwards in that time. Leonard I've seen against us every game, very tidy player, but an improvement on Coady? Nope. Lenihan, only live on tv and highlights.

Pretty much disagree with all of that Cerberus.

Coady was 19 when he came to Utd on loan and noticeably improved throughout his stay. Since then and while Utd were languishing in L1, he was plying his trade, and improving further, in the Champ. To be awarded the armband at WWFC and for their supporters to be fiercely against him leaving them should tell you all you need to know about how he's developed and his quality nowadays.

As for Oztumer, I really don't get what all the fuss is all about and suspect he's caused another case of 'Nathan Byrne syndrome' amongst a number of Utd supporters, yourself included. You seem to be comparing apples with oranges as he's a very different player to Coady but I certainly wouldn't pick him ahead of Carruthers, Duffy or even Brooks in the CAM/#10 role. It seems that 23 other Champ clubs agree he's no better than what they already have either. given the lack of interest in him since his move to Walsall. He reminds me of Scougall in lots of ways including my personal view that neither are good enough.

If Coady is in the final 12 months of his contract, and Wolves are currently chucking big wage packages at new players, I imagine Coady's agent is trying to create some interest in his client in order to force Wolves into offering him a bumper new deal. I doubt very much that Coady is within our budget, or wage structure.

The Real Madrid boys tend to use Man Utd in this way most summers in order to secure themselves new contracts.

He do not have an equal or better infrastructure than Wolves. Or coaches. Or facilities.

The only chance would be if he's pissed off with what is happening at Wolves. As he is captain, that would seem unlikely.

Even if, we'd need to lay-down several million (unless he has a release fee) and he'd break our wage structure.

Also, if he was going to leave, the logical destination would probably be Huddersfield.

How good would it be if his release fee was GBP 500,000, effectively giving them back the McDonald cheque. The smile that would bring to my face.

Just to add, in Chris' interview with Radio Sheffield before the game yesterday, they asked him about signings this week and he said "you never know; one or two moving elsewhere may get the ball rolling for us" (or something along those lines).

It may therefore be the case Wolves are bringing someone in, which has opened this up for us.

Wages AND transfer fee !?!?!?!'kin 'ELL !
Uncle Kev 'l never wear that

I do miss League One

Just had a little scour on the Wolves site, doesn't make great reading.

Comments like:

Weird timing, if they came in a month ago we'd have snapped their hands off - can do one now.

I'd accept 1m

3m is about the going rate for him

Do they even realise he's a shit midfielder, reinvented himself at centre half.

No chance we can sell, we have no-one to replace him at the back.

Give them Batth instead.

Gotta say I strongly believe this is top quality shit stirring by the club to jolt Southend and Blackburn in to lowering their demands.

I could be wrong !

Isn't it a bigger danger that the opposite happens, ie Coady doesnt come and Southend and Blackburn think well he would have cost them 3m so they can easily afford what we are asking for our players ?

UTB

I have been surprised for a while how many midfielders we have been linked with. Does Wilder have doubts about Fleck, Coutts and duffy/Carruthe

As I said, no he didn't, maybe you are talking about his comments on Brentford which you took as a criticism of our club for some reason. Your agenda not his I would say.

No agenda whatsoever, just an observation as to how I saw things...chill Bro!

I really can't believe that people are suggesting that this bid is "kite flying" or a "publicity stunt". The offer is in. Our manager has said so. He's far too straight forward than to fuck about making offers that aren't genuine in the belief it might affect Blackburn, Southend or anyone else. Clubs aren't taken in by bollocks like that and I suggest we follow suit.

This may not happen, but anyone doubting that this is a serious offer should listen to Tufty's interview; reflect; apply a little common sense in place of fertile imaginations.
My point about "kite flying" can be expressed another way if you prefer. It is testing the water. Fair enough, a bid is in and I`m sure we would like to sign him, but don`t discount the possibility that it might also be part of the thinking to see if it elicits any reaction from Roots Hall and Ewood.

Nothing more than a PR stunt this

We won't make a bid as a PR stunt - no one would do that.

We look like arseholes when they get rejected and all it does is add pressure when it doesn't happen and makes clubs think we have money to burn

We might not get him but there will be a possibility of it happening

Absolutely. It's not his way. He named those two because Southend and Blackburn both announced the offers at their end (and that they'd been rejected). That's not the case, here. I heard the way he expressed himself. It should be online on FH soon. Very unlike him if there's "no chance". It's intriguing at the very least.

Where's Max when you need him...

To think he could already have been our player had we shown some ambition last time we wanted him.
