Gone Elsewhere Conor Coady

He captained the side on Saturday... I don't think he should be labelled 'their captain' because of this one-time occurance. I doubt that is the factor holding back his transfer, much more likely it's the large fee or the fact he is still a valued player nonetheless at wolves.

In possession Coutts and coady holding with fleck tucked in behind billy and Leon instead of carruthers. Fleck filling in and making a solid 3 in the middle of the park when out of possession.
Madness to separate coutts and fleck , they are the catalyst to our success. Whoever we get has to fit round those 2 not the other way round

Hang on....didn't CW call the board out, (between the lines) and question their ambition matching his last weekend?

McCabe rings him on Monday, "ok Chris, Mr Ambition, in an ideal wold, realistically who would you really like to bring to BDTBL?"

"Well Mr Chairman, I really like Conor Coady at Wolves" replies our Chris

"Well put a fuckin bid in then" says McCabe...knowing full well there's a snowballs chance in hell that his wallet will be coming out but it bats back perfectly the ambition argument.

There a lot of logic to this move.

To have Coady and Basham in the squad means we could do away with pursuing both Lehihan and Leonard.

One less player to accommodate and keep happy, plus you are not asking one player to shake off relegation and be better and the other to step up. You would have a bona fide Championship performer.

The move might make sense for him too. The direction Wolves are going, with Mendes so heavily involved and foreign coaches does not necessarily lend itself to longevity for Coady there, regardless of whether he's done ok filling in at centre back for them.

Let's see where it goes, but Wilder doesn't seem the type to waste his own time. And Agents talk. There must have been an inkling there was some appetite for this to happen, from player or club, or it would not have got to the point of placing a bid.

It might also release some needed FP cash if they want buy Rhodes ?

There's been suggestions that he only has 12 months left on his contract.

Compound that with Wolves' seeming obsession with spending shit loads on Portuguese players and loans and it might just be realistic.

I just can't get my head around how his wages would fit in though.

I can't see his wages being a big problem. At Huddersfield he wouldn't have been on silly money and he moved to Wolves before the takeover. Granted his wages will have gone up but I doubt anywhere near the 15/20k region.

Coady was nowhere near there first team and then they got hit with injuries and he found himself playing last 2 pre season games. Did very well and was thrown in at centre of a 3 as they had no one else. He did well.

When the players return back and the offer to cash in on someone he didn't rate until 3 weeks ago may be something.

Wow. Maybe we are an ambitious club.
Maybe we have ambitious owners.
Let's enjoy the ride fellow Blades, we deserve it and our ambitious manager knows we do, as does the Sheffield owner. Wilder did say that some business can only be done as the Window business is done elsewhere and comes late.
As for Coady, I hope he has become more assertive as a player now he has so many games under his belt.
Symbolic bid, let's hope it's a symbolic signing.

Call the board out? No he didn't unless I missed something.

The bid might well be stirring some emotion in Leonard who may well still want to come to us. Can Southend handle it?

You're a truffle snuffler with trotters and a flat nose. Each silly contribution you offer makes it more and more demonstrable. You're fooling nobody.

I can understand you curlytails being obsessed with our massive club that's going places, but shouldn't you spare a bit of thought stywards? When is the ten million pound man going to overcome his cowardice and take a pig pen, for example?
Ahh i meant, silly little boy! Im no pig fan you clown. Go and have a word with yourself. Or get your head from out my arse you peasant, im getting a bit worried about you following me around the forum.

How to bump up the value of a player
1) Make him sign a contract extension (probably not going to happen if he wants the move, but see EEL for reference)
2) Say "He's not for sale at any price" (coming soon I guarantee it)
3) Make him captain to imply his huge importance to the team
4) Don't come out with shit like "every player has his price" or "we won't stand in anyone's way" or "no player is bigger than the club"

You should be, Piggy.

Coutts, Fleck & Coady as midfield options

So many different reasons this could happen:

1) Coady wants out and we want him
2) possible release clause/fee in his contract
3) wolves link with Steerman and EEL (last season)
4) they may fancy Bradford who could be used as a make weight (and free up wages)

Now, the odd thing is Wilder does not usually confirm targets. He could have done this for one of two reasons:

1) really wants Coady and wants board to put a bit more money to the deal to secure it.
2) Put Southend and Blackburn on notice we are looking elsewhere.

Of course could possibly be both.

I have no doubt Wilder wants him but I don't think it will happen but we might get the other two as a result so it's a win win.

maybe as above, Stearman knows something and has tipped Wilder about it!

I have been surprised for a while how many midfielders we have been linked with. Does Wilder have doubts about Fleck, Coutts and duffy/Carruthe
I said I'd you read between the lines, he wanted his ambition matching.

As I said, no he didn't, maybe you are talking about his comments on Brentford which you took as a criticism of our club for some reason. Your agenda not his I would say.

Conor Coady -52 games last season 1 goal 2 assists. Now labelled as a 'defensive midfielder'. He got up and down the pitch for us but I always thought he lacked assertiveness and a final telling contribution. Time will tell if he signs.

Nothing shouts "ambition!" more than having bids refused for lower end players then making higher bids for higher end players that also get knocked back.

:)

I don't believe there is any cost involved in this process. In fact the fax transmission is the same!

Wolves paid over 2m for him in 2015 so what would they want for him now ? At least double I'd think given he was in the first 11 that beat Boro on Saturday. It would be a massive sign of intent if we bought him but very unlikely in my opinion

Not so sure, I think Wolves may have a number of other targets in mind and he has entered the last year of his contract too as
Far as I'm aware..not saying he would cost less than £2m but I'm not sure it would be double

And I agree with you Woodwardfan. Although we will be in a minority expressing this opinion. A lot of fans seem to look back upon Coady's time here with great affection for him. I saw United play most games that season home and away. I can remember two or three games where he really stood out for us and looked the real deal - the rest I thought he was a decent player but nothing out of the ordinary. Put it this way, if we are going off shopping to the West Midlands, I'd rather we cut the journey short and stop off at Walsall and bring back Erhun Oztumer (Or Ot Zooma as Jonny Leeds kept calling him last night). I really like that lad, very creative and talented, something a bit different. Whereas Coady is your "utility man" - and I've never really liked "utility men" - Jack of all Trades an' that.
