If we did somehow manage to pull this off where do you think we would play him? For the fee he would cost, he'd have to be a first team player. Wolves fans seem to far prefer him at CB to CM so would he knock Stearman down as Bash and O'Connell are undroppable?

Absolutely. It's not his way. He named those two because Southend and Blackburn both announced the offers at their end (and that they'd been rejected). That's not the case, here. I heard the way he expressed himself. It should be online on FH soon. Very unlike him if there's "no chance". It's intriguing at the very least.

Where's Max when you need him...

I said a while back this was all logical. Whilst it is there was an element of nostalgia/fantasy about it. But this seems very real and I'm all for it.. here is a question though. IF we sign him is it as a CB or a CM.he was outstanding for us in CM but wolves fans seem to really rate him as a CB..

Bet his agent is driving this

I cannot believe we would have put in a bid unless we had received some encouragement from somewhere - i.e. the player must be unsettled. May be he does not like the way the club (Wolves) is going with foreign owners, Fancy Dan foreign players coming in possibly on much more money than him? He knows our club and fans and can see we are on an upward curve. May be he is not a complete mercenary and would rather be at a club where he is happy rather than a club he doesn't like but on bigger wages today but may be not tomorrow? Who knows but the fact is a bid is in.... Exciting!

We are attempting to bring in a quality player and pay for him. We have been bidding for a few with various amounts. We only bid what we think the player is worth. If we get him great if not oh well.

I can see CC either signing a new deal or coming to us!

Surely if we got Coady we wouldn't continue our interest in either Lenihan or Leonard. He covers the positions they do and would be considerably more expensive than either.

He'd be the big money signing that's occasionally been hinted at, no doubt about it. It would be a real big one. And I can hardly think of a safer investment.

I was expecting to hear Wilder dismiss the rumour. It would be interesting to know how much we've bid. Because surely for someone like him the bidding starts at around £2.5m.

It really is of no consequence what Wolves fans think, mate. It seems clear that Tufty wants a midfield alternative to Duffy/Carruthers in games where we might have to be less adventurous.

CW rates Stearman very highly. He's the kingpin central defender of three. The one in danger will be Basham, perhaps undroppable at the moment, but not long term. The danger to him will come from Lenny Lenihan, who is a right-side of three CB. Coady is the alternative to Lenny Leonard and he's wanted for midfield (of course he might play CB from time to time; versatility comes in handy).

Either way, what Wolves fans think will carry as much weight with Tufty as Blackburn fans' view that Lenny 2 is better in midfield. Zero.

In any event, there is no "fans" view. There will be varying opinions and degrees of opinion just like on here. :)

If we did sign him and its a big if, surely he comes in as a starter but for who, Wolves fans seem to think he's rubbish at CM and far better at CB, but who does he replace

Leonard maybe not. I think he very much still wants Linehan. I'm sure he still wants a CB and a midfielder and that Coady is the midfield option. Tufty will have watched and admired him in his loan spell with us.

It was indeed a surprise, nay mild shock, the way it came out and the apparent confidence with which Tufty spoke. Well worth another listen on FH online.

Perhaps I'm kidding myself; who knows, but it's deeply intriguing and something of a (welcome) bombshell.

Where's Treeton Blade?

Wolves paid over 2m for him in 2015 so what would they want for him now ? At least double I'd think given he was in the first 11 that beat Boro on Saturday. It would be a massive sign of intent if we bought him but very unlikely in my opinion

It's all about having a squad, alternatives for match day.

Last season we were lucky with injuries really, I bet we only used 20/21 players all season after the first 3/4 games.

This season the demands are much higher, the pace of the game quicker, so there'll be one or two players perhaps unable to play all 46. That's when someone else comes in and gets their chance.

That's what I love about Wilder, he gives peripheral players the belief that they'll get their chance and if they take it, the shirt is then theirs to lose. Creates wonderful and healthy competition.

When he played for us on loan he had a Steven Gerrard sort of swagger about him.
Good on the ball, could pick a pass and was box to box.
As stated in other threads, you can never have enough good players.
Coady covers a lot of positions.
Signing of intent if it ever comes off.

Sounded quite positive. Let's see how progresses over next couple of days.

He may be important to Wolves but they may see they can get him out and bring a big money player in.

Where does he fit in? Surely can't break up Coutts/Fleck.

Is he coming in as a centre half? Played there for Wolves last week and did quite often for Liverpool.

Reminds me of when we signed Jim Bone from Norwich. " Good player" we all said @ But where does he fit in?"

But he did.

I'd love this to happen but in all seriousness Wolves would have to be looking at a better player than him to let him go to us. Surely they would be looking for £4m+ and for us to give CC a massive signing on fee to allow his salary to fit in with our wage structure.

Does seem a little peculiar that CW has confirmed this if there was Zero chance of it happening. There must be something in it.

If we managed to pull it off then a midfield of....

Fleck Coutts
Coady
Stevens Freeman

Wowsers where's mi trousers !!!

Maybe Coady wants to join the Sheffield United Scousers club and save some money on travel expenses.

Last season Liverpool boys O'Connell and Duffy used to share a car driving into training.
Now we have a 3rd Scouser John Lundstrum at the club
Wonder if Coady already knows O'Connell, Duffy or Lundstrum?

We've not bid for Ronaldo or Messi, do people not realise this?

And that isn't a dig at those wanting Coady - he'd be a brilliant signing, and at the moment in our position, the perfect one.

It's a comment aimed at those who think we have no chance of pulling it off. Don't forget we are in the same league as Wolves, have an equal or better infrastructure, a fan base that is equal or better. The only difference is that Wolves are playing shit or bust financially. It may pay off and last a few seasons, it may not. We on the other hand are building, progressively.

Would you bet against CW selling the club and his vision to Coady?

Also, a lot of groundwork goes into these deals before a bid is even made, perhaps CW was given some encouragement by someone, somewhere...

He do not have an equal or better infrastructure than Wolves. Or coaches. Or facilities.

The only chance would be if he's pissed off with what is happening at Wolves. As he is captain, that would seem unlikely.

Even if, we'd need to lay-down several million (unless he has a release fee) and he'd break our wage structure.

Also, if he was going to leave, the logical destination would probably be Huddersfield.

It all sounds like a bit of kite flying to me. Most likely to be priced out by either fee, wages, or both. Only way I could see it happening would be a player part exchange. Even then could he be accommodated in our wage structure ? Unlikely.

True, what they think has no impact on where he'd play for us. I feel like he'd be taking up the money for both the Leonard and Leniham fee (based purely on our transfer activity so far) or this is just a publicity stunt to make Southend budge. Either way, Leonard or Coady would be a great signing to cover our CM up

Yes and after Liverpool turned down our "generous offer", allegedly digging their heels in for £1.5 million they offloaded him quicksmart to Huddersfield for £325,000

Not the only time that Liverpool FC have fucked us over.

Unfortunately very true.

Only way I can see this happening is if we suddenly started Spunkin Moneh :p

...but remember what King Kev said about money being available for a Wow signing.

Maybe this bid is purely to prove to the Venky's that we are indeed looking at other players and to take our offer now.
