Anyone see the Sky programme behind the scenes at Wolves recently?

Showed Coady as a real leader in the dressing room as well as on the pitch.

Seems to have really matured. As we know CW loves leaders and vocal players.

Make this happen and it can really lift the team and compliment our starting 11. Where he would play? Christ knows. Over to you Chris!

If we did somehow manage to pull this off where do you think we would play him? For the fee he would cost, he'd have to be a first team player. Wolves fans seem to far prefer him at CB to CM so would he knock Stearman down as Bash and O'Connell are undroppable?

In possession Coutts and coady holding with fleck tucked in behind billy and Leon instead of carruthers. Fleck filling in and making a solid 3 in the middle of the park when out of possession.

I really can't believe that people are suggesting that this bid is "kite flying" or a "publicity stunt". The offer is in. Our manager has said so. He's far too straight forward than to fuck about making offers that aren't genuine in the belief it might affect Blackburn, Southend or anyone else. Clubs aren't taken in by bollocks like that and I suggest we follow suit.

This may not happen, but anyone doubting that this is a serious offer should listen to Tufty's interview; reflect; apply a little common sense in place of fertile imaginations.

Now this would be seriously special.

Only downside I could see is him having to be a guaranteed starter. And presumably in one single position, rather than being shunted around all over the pitch like at Wolves. Therefore busting up the Coutts/Fleck partnership once & for all.

Can't see it happening. But...

No chance of this in my opinion. Would have more of a shot signing Danny batth off them, he would be a quality signing if we could pull it off.

I quite like the idea of this, basically put Fleck in Carruthers position, but Fleck works so well from deeper and breaking forward I wouldn't want to take away from how well he plays there

Hopefully this isn't another of the situations with some of our other targets where we've failed to get them over the line despite it seemingly being close - as I think it would represent a really good signing.

Covers the extra centre back we are really missing at a really good standard and gives us the box to box midfielder we really don't have at the club atm.

It's difficult to find players that could improve the squad and first 11 - think this one near enough does both.

Strange when asked if the bid had been rejected CW wouldn't say

Almost makes me think he's ours  :D

"It's a matter between the two clubs", I think he said. It was a very surprising end to the interview. Certainly not a man indulging in gamesmanship or a futile "publicity stunt". He sounded confident. He could easily have brushed off the local hack; he's done that time after time. He chose not to.

Maybe I'm thinking wishfully? We shall see.

More solid without losing an ounce of skill. Majestic midfield three some.

I understand what you say, but he will still bring in the Blackburn lad if he can, whether this goes through or not. He's made it very clear he wants a CB and a CM, not a bit of both in a single player.

Completely believe this is a real offer and shows we are looking at other players. I think it's an ambitious attempt to sign a very good player with the added bonus of showing Southend and Blackburn that we aren't hanging around waiting for them. Best of both worlds that way. Not exactly a publicity stunt that probably wasn't the right way of putting it as it's clearly a serious offer that Wolves haven't yet rejected, seemingly.

Hmm just realised that CW does like to sign Club Captains doesn't he?

There's been suggestions that he only has 12 months left on his contract.

Compound that with Wolves' seeming obsession with spending shit loads on Portuguese players and loans and it might just be realistic.

I just can't get my head around how his wages would fit in though.

Coming from what little I've read so far - seems like coady had found his role at wolves in defence.

Would it not be more likely to be coady and Leonard... given I'm not sure we could afford million quid plus fees for both positions.

That's why I think it makes sense to get a versatile player of that experience and quality.

Does it not suggest that coady is CW's 3rd preferred target? Put it this way, if Leonard and Lenihan were here, would we be talking about this? Strange because I do agree hes probably the best of them.

Silly sausages!

You're a truffle snuffler with trotters and a flat nose. Each silly contribution you offer makes it more and more demonstrable. You're fooling nobody.

I can understand you curlytails being obsessed with our massive club that's going places, but shouldn't you spare a bit of thought stywards? When is the ten million pound man going to overcome his cowardice and take a pig pen, for example?

Apparently he has a year left but Wolves have the option to extend it for a further year - as they seem to with most of their players.

Maybe Wilder will still want a player specifically for CB but I can't see us spending £2m+ for Lenihan as well as £3m+ on Coady.

Not nessecarily.

Situations change all the time. Might always have wanted to get coady in but wouldn't have had enough funds until walker went for example or wolves may have just lined on a new signing or something like that.

Maybe wolves have finally read the rules and realised they'll be fucked under financial fair play if they don't make some sales

Lot of movement happens in August and wilder mentioned he was happy to wait til he right time.

But agre Had we signed Leonard and lenihan then I don't think we would be bidding any longer.

He's spent the vast majority of his career as a pretty accomplished midfielder. Do you not think he will have caught Tufty's eye in that position during his excellent spell with us? I'm not ITK, in fact I'm completely NITFK, but I've heard from a few people I trust (yes I know, I know) that Tufty is very keen to get the Blackburn lad. I think the size of our known offer corroborates that notion. We shall see. One thing's for sure, Tufty will know where he sees these players fitting in, and it won't depend on the opinions of Wolves, Blackburn, their respective managers and, least of all, fans.

Coady would walk into our team, a midfield of him Coutts and Fleck would be simply superb. Not only would it add a great deal of extra individual talent in a player who is great on the ball but arguably even better off it. But it would also give extra flexibility in that Fleck and Coady could swap positions whenever they felt it necessary. Both Coady and Fleck are those rare midfielders who can allow you to completely change tactics without making substitutions.

In all honesty it sounds too good to be true, but if we do sign him I will be one very very happy blade. Coady would be a great signing for any championship club, let alone one that's not upto standard in this English super league we suddenly find ourselves in!

Maybe Coady wants to join the Sheffield United Scousers club and save some money on travel expenses.

Last season Liverpool boys O'Connell and Duffy used to share a car driving into training.
Now we have a 3rd Scouser John Lundstrum at the club
Wonder if Coady already knows O'Connell, Duffy or Lundstrum?
He'll know Stearman
Maybe that's where the insider info has come from.

Could be FFP reasons too, like me learned friend has just observed

Hope you're right because to be honest I think he's a terrific midfielder - one we don't have similar to at the club right now. He Played really well for us and by all accounts enjoyed his time here.

If it's right and we want both then I'd be delighted - will show we are determined to make our mark in the league and would mean spending c5m, which I certainly wasn't envisaging us doing.

We'd add assets at the right age and right experience to contribute now and improve in value. Hopefully we make some progress on them

I agree with the ffp, but he's there captain, they've got a lot of fringe players to sell before the captain surely? Joe Mason has been mentioned for example, if they are lining up another Portuguese defender for 5mil why would coady be captain 1 week sold the next? We have had the walker money for a month now and we've been still trying to get Leonard and Lenihan, offering considerable amounts for both (still not enough though obviously) and now it seems that CW has thought fuck it on 1 or both and moved onto the next target DOWN the list, coady.

In recent United memory there were a few signings and missed opportunities that never sat well with me, that felt like there was unfinished business and I'm not talking about the sentiment surrounding Maguire, Jags or the Kyles leaving. The key ones were:
  • Having Billy at the club twice but never making the most of him. Selling him to Scunny and Donny.
  • Ched being sent down.
  • Not going all out to sign Coady.
  • Brayford returning to Cardiff.
Imagine my arousal when this thread pops up and is confirmed by Wilder. I could live in a time where my Blades are captained by Billy and have Coady and Ched in the squad, with Brayford having some chance of being in there too albeit slim at the moment.

A United side with Brayford back on form, Billy and Ched scoring for fun and a midfield ticking over with Coady, Fleck and Coutts. DO WANT.

I think I need to go to the bathroom.

Very good player for us and from what I've read has developed since, still can't believe we didn't put in a realistic bid for him to Liverpool, am I correct in thinking he really really enjoyed it here and so did his family??

Love to see him back, with Fleck & Coutts we'd have a classy and hardworking midfield
Brilliant player and real quality in a number of positions - I heard from a mate of his that he wanted to come here after his loan but we didnt bid at all !! Unbelievable decision . CW confirmed tonight that we put a bid in but cant see it happening but if it did this would be a real signal of intent !
