Funny how people can have a different view when it comes to their own club and players. I've seen a few comments lately claiming that £5m would be far too high a valuation for this player, yet if we sold Brooks for a less than that people would be going mad on here.

Maybe Blackburn rate this player and want the best deal for their own club, just as we would for our best assets.

Or you can buy players like Solanke for 3m

It appears that we have been chasing this guy since before confirmation of the K. Walker windfall. Surely an indication of our intent.
Seems the guy is well regarded but always surprises me that other clubs do not comein for these well regarded talents.

And to think that it was HITC that broke the rumour!

Very different deal though. He was out of contract so any fee will be compensatory to Chelsea for his development. That is set by a tribunal and not his former club so it's not much of a yardstick for comparison.

That aside, players are worth whatever another club is prepared to pay for them and I will agree with you in as much that he ain't worth £5m if no one is prepared to pay it. His club are however entitled to set a price that he's worth to them. See the Ryan Leonard fiasco for a comparison.

What disturbs me about this is that we don't seem to have any clue at to what the going rate for players actually is. It says that we initially bid £500k for this bloke. Then we come back with a bit over that. And now we've gone back with almost triple the original offer - and it's still a no. That's not usually how negotiations work. The first offer is usually on the low side, the second offer is usually "in the right sort of ball park" and the third offer is usually, "too good to turn down". But not with us, it seems. And then you look at the fiasco with Holmes and Leonard and you have to question if the problem is at our end by making unrealistic offers?

Lenihan is a player who has played for the past couple of seasons at Championship level. He's an U21 International and he's highly rated by their fans and considered to be a great prospect. If we want to sign quality players like this we will have to be prepared to pay the going rate. And I don't think we've actually understood what the going rate is for such players - or we've understood it but can't afford it.

Makes you wonder how we managed to sign Moore, Baldock, Lafferty, Stearman, Carruthers, Lundstram, Thomas, Hanson, Clarke, Lavery and Evans.

You're confusing championship manager with real life.

Yesterdays offer was 1million plus add ons most of the figures quoted were slightly inflated. My guess 1.25 mill plus add ons will close the deal.

Exactly. Spurs would have never paid us that for Walker and Naughton would they?
Slight bit of difference. We were selling to a Prem club, of course the money is higher.

Additionally i'd say the money recouped by Spurs show they were the real winners in this deal.

We've been in the third tier of football for 6 seasons. In the meantime the Championship has become awash with wealthy investors, ridiculous parachute payments and lastly, the 100m for finishing bottom of the Prem club.

We have no idea what the market rate for players is. Clubs (apart from us) are quoting ridiculous figures for players..... and clubs are paying it.

We simply can't compete.

There is no market rate for "players". There is a market rate for any individual player, which is defined by the usual market principles.

Clearly no club is paying any notional Junior Computer Manager rate for either Leonard or Lenihan. Perhaps we have a little more idea of real world player values than you suggest?

In both cases presently pertinent to us, the answer is and may remain unknown, because the offer and selling price may be incapable of compromise, but it's no indication that we have 'no idea'. Far from it.

The relentless quest to gratuitously knock our own club and cap-doff others goes on unabated.

Flawed response number one.

A market can't be determined by a single product...that in itself is contradictory.

Why you continue to get 'computer football manager' and 'cap doffing' into most of your responses is beyond me. Are you normal?

Yes agree. I hope we go back with a fourth offer today and get it sorted. I think we should do a swop deal, no cash involved, for Brayford. That would be lovely?

Would Brayford go to Blackburn? Would be nice if he fancied it.

I've a feeling that we won't get Lenihan, Brayford won't be sold and that he will end up playing quite a few games for us.
