Perhaps we did jump the gun with the Everton chat. Wilder talked fairly comfortably about him coming back and pushing on in his interview today - if it was an imminent departure he could have played it with a straight bat to be fair rather than talk up how much he's pushed on.

He also addressed the one criticism I had last year about not seeing the young players in the run in with little pressure - said it would have been unfair to the lads who had played 40 odd games and we still had 100 points to play for. My apologies Chris - should never have doubted the common sense approach haha!

I can guarantee that whatever we sell him for, it won't be enough. If we get £10m + 20% sell on clause someone will say it should have been £12m + 25%.

It's the perfect opportunity. Most fees are undisclosed so whatever fee is rumoured to be by the intelligentsia (ahem) on twitter, a liberal 20% deduction is applied to really ram home the moan on here.

Your second paragraph answered the part in my post regards to giving him playing time but my response to that would be we had many opportunities where games were already won where he could've played some League one football towards the latter part of the season which all helps to understand whether he's ready or not to step up, I thought we missed a little opportunity there.

Do agree with that. I Said before on this thread when we were 3 nil up and crusing - would have been the ideal time to introduce them for the last 30 mins or so. See how they adapted to proper Men's football.

Just hadnt heard wilder actually Address that before and state why he kept faith with his experienced side.

Will everybody stop talking about Jagielka coming back and being a makeweight in the Brookes deal

Jagielka isn't coming back because we cannot afford his wages and even if we could we wouldn't pay them anyway because as you know nobody should get well paid for kicking a bag of wind about

And tell Brookes he's going to get first team opportunities next season and he's going nowhere

Brooks is the best kid we've ever had. Kudos to Mr Clough. If he goes this close season, he should go for £7m down minimum, with £5m in add ons, or fuck em off and keep him. Proper footballer.

I liked your message but at the same time I had to laugh
We don't do £7 million down or the £5 million add one

And in the year 2050 we still won't be doing it

maybe this will convince people

#sufc boss CW says David Brookes has a chance of being part of his 1st team squad next season. If not, CW says he'll go to the Spireites.

That's no doubt correct but it's based on the circumstances as they are today. Those do not include any approaches from the Prem.

Plenty of us on here did, in exactly those terms, when the Bladey Boyband Frenzy was at its height...

I wish people would stop quoting that telegraph article as if it's definitely true - how many bollocks articles have been written about players in the past? This does not mean he will be sold.
It's understandable. I can't recall an article about one of our youngsters being sold that hasn't been true since Harry left.
Adams rumours, same summer - gone
DCL rumours, same summer - gone
Ramsdale rumours, same January - gone
Brooks rumours, ??? - ???

Wed told Everton to fuck off when they bid for Hirst.

We should do the same.

A right sickener, that every promising kid we see on a Sat morning, or Monday afternoon in the U23s is sold before they are even getting in the first team.

The International call up is becoming a curse.
Lads get their heads turned when they hear how much the other players are on.

Never tell me it's not about the money.

Do you think that will be the end of Evertons interest in Hirst though?,an ex Wednesday player told me his Dad is pus

Chris Wilder has stated today that he has recalled him to see if he can force his way into his 1st team squad,if he cannot he will go on loan to Chesterfield,i believe our manager rather than 1 article in a newspaper

I think absolutely all of us want to believe our manager, but there are long and numerous instances where a manager of Sheffield United has watched as higher powers have overseen departures, often embarressingly quickly and at ridiculously bargain basement prices. Let us all hope Brooks isn't next out the departure lounge on McCabeair one way to John Lennon Airport.

Well Chris has been in the job a little over 12 months, and in all that time he has told it like it is,no fannying about,no bullshit,no nonsense,so on that basis i am happy to believe what he says on the matter, any other recent occupants of the managers chair,i would be less inclined

Bang on! It's the least Wilder deserves.

I don't think any of us don't believe Wilder. I think many of us have very legitimate reason to have concerns about decisions made over his head. I very much doubt that any of our previous managers were overly happy about having their best players sold but kept schtum and kept their jobs.
It will be interesting if Wilder is ever faced with that dichotomy. As you say,he has told it like it is.

To be honest you're probably right but I just don't want to believe it will happen. I, like others, think Brooks is way better than Adams and DCL and hate the thought of another talent being sold for pennies. (Which I understand does happen when you aren't Man Utd, Real Madrid etc)

Funnily enough Southampton have always got top dollar, irrespective of what league they were in at the time.

Their academy is the best in the country by miles though.

Off the top of my head - walcott, oxlade chamberlin, lallana, chambers, shaw, ings, bale, ward prowse.

People are happy to pay cos they have proved they can develop players.

Even the ones that don't quiet make it there usually end up having decent careers - Ben reeves, David mcgoldrick, Leon best, dexter blackstock, surman, dyer, Baird.

That said if we had former negotiators I still think we could drive a harder bargain.

Our academy has a great reputation. It's the bellends that oversee sales are the problem. Sell at the first offer.

Kyle Walker, Kyle Naughton, Matt Lowton, Harry Maguire, Ramsdale, Brookes?

Kinda proven we can too.

Only one proven international player there though....saints has been more consistent on that level.
Plus, it is harder to produce the flair players....the strikers/wingers. They tend to be at the bigger academies.

Footbll didn't start in 2003 so feel free to add Shearer and Le Tissier to that.great club with a great set up. I put it down to the red n white stripes

Southampton have a fucking huge unchallenged catchment area to scout youg talent. We compete with about a dozen clubs.
That ain't bull. Our academy is fantastic and its success rate amazing. I'm as big a critic as anyone when it comes to United and bullshit but on this one 100% kudos to the Blades.
Except we sell WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too cheap.

We really missed Adams, DCL and Ramsdale. We might have made the play-offs with those three in the team.
