Because you want to,because before our Chairman had uttered a word you would put a negative slant on whatever he said,am I close?

Of course you are. The agenda is set and will be pursued. If reality gets in the way, it can easily be distorted.

For example Tufty, despite all his words and actions to the contrary, is furious at the constraints upon him and already looking for a way out.

You couldn't make it up. Oh, hang on...

Don't disagree, but as a rule you do have to invest to see a return. Even Brighton spent money, despite reports to the contrary. There's only Huddersfield who did it on a shoestring and that was due to brilliant scouting overseas and management..

The Huddersfield "shoestring" is only a half truth as well. These guys they got in while exceptionally well managed to make a team capable of getting promoted over the might of the filth (ha) were not cheap in agents fees, retainers and wages. They just didn't pay massive transfer fees.

Fact is (and your point thus correct) you can't do this on the cheap. Even staying out of the relegation zone is going to cost money.

So the Prince has been talking to colleagues ? Who are they as if its more of the Royal Family then that would be great ? If we were the only club owned by the Saudi Royal Family I guess they woudnt like to be 2nd best to the people who own Man City ?

Wasn't it HRH who said once we got promoted to the Championship the real investment would kick in? I may be wrong but I am certain I saw/read it in several places. As for the McCabe interview, people will take what they want from it but I think now we have the right manager in place, McCabe knows the money is being better spent hence he is more likely to let it happen. Plus HRH will have a say in all this.

I can't put my finger on when or where I saw it, but I was sure I'd heard that point being made too. Time will tell I guess, it's just good to be out of that bloody division finally!

That's true, they had a whole team in charge of transfers who won't have been cheap. And I bet the loan transfers had some guaranteed assurances too.

Even if they didn't, many Loan Fees these days can come in on the heavy side.

Why do I get a sinking feeling in my stomach with McCabe already mentioning the January transfer window ?

I'm hoping that the emphasis placed on January is because the approach will be to recruit sensibly in the summer window and still have some budget available in January to strengthen accordingly. It's risky, given that January is a notoriously difficult time to do business, but you can see the logic.

Kevin did explicitly say that he expects 3 or 4 more to join before the close of this window so I'm hopeful that we won't be left short by the time the season gets under way. If the window closes without further additions and we are then told that we have a "war-chest" available in January then I will be disappointed, but I don't think that will be the case.

No you're not, this is the man who said Europe in 5 years then proceeded to oversee 6 years in division one !! You f in hero worship him if you want but I want to see some success at some point.

We were told investment would be forthcoming in the championship, now he's already mentioned the January transfer window ! For some of us this is sounding like a familiar path, so far not one player we have signed is an automatic first team player but the bladey bladey McCabe supporters think any criticism is an 'agenda'.....Ffs the man has overseen one of the worst periods any of us can remember in our history so I'm right to be sceptical. I will wait to see the evidence before blindly following every word !

.

What a fantastic interview that is with Kevin McCabe.

Fills me with a lot of confidence for the coming season. There is no doubt that McCabe still has fire in his belly, and wants success and promotion as much as any other Blade on this forum.

The lad has made mistakes in the past, as does everyone, but it certainly wasn't for lack of trying on his part. If you're reading this Kevin, thanks for everything you have done and continue to do for Sheffield United Football Club.

'Up The Mighty Blades!'

.

Good Post Kevin.

A good interview from my best mate McCabe. :)

I tried my hardest to not listen to it but I wanted to hear what he had to say and he didn't sound like he was spouting any bollocks at all. There was some good insightful comments into the new C/O and the one leaving(Steve Bettis?) having a big impact on appointing the new one.

He says we'll be bringing three or four other players in on top of the ones we've already brought in which is good to hear because we'll need them, these players need to be players who can push the ones already here to keep their performances at the level they're at now.

Seen as though I'm one of the first to berate him I thought I'd give him a thumbs up for once, it's only reyt. :)

Now don't say a word Kev until the seasons finished, this is ultimately where everything will be judged properly.

McCabe certainly said substantial investment would be available if we got promoted, "think Liverpool". Personally I think it's a load of rubbish and think Liverpool is probably more think (insert average Champ club of your choice here)

So I wasn't close,I was bang in the centre of the bullseye ,as your little rant proves

Jan 2009 , our chance for return to Prem , Kev sells our flu-affected multiple goalscorer to Stoke for buttons , then we face Burnley with no recognized striker in a PO Final.

I would agree if he hadn't said about the 3 or 4 players still to come in before the window slams shut, it's only fair we wait to see how it all pans out first.

Come back when you've got a proper response ...oh and substitute rant for facts

Do you think everything you have posted in your little pathetic rant has come as a shock to me,come back to me when you have calmed down and can discuss the Chairmans comments in a grown up manner

It was an impressive list wasn't it, Akinbiyi, Dyer, Flitcroft, Lucketti, Horsfield :)

And yet for NW's top target that January, Cameron Jerome, we weren't willing to pay what was required so ended up with two strikers that weren't of use 6 months later. Not the best example McCabe could have picked.

But funnily enough, the best he could drag up ................

Dangerous place to linger when the Blades are doing OK ..... between McCabe and a microphone

I think the thing here is that KM has plenty of previous for going public with statements that have proved somewhat incorrect. Folk remember this,it's normal to so do,so when,as now we approach a new challenge,in the Championship,it's reasonable that his "Think Liverpool, not Man City" comments are thrown up. Leaving aside the Liverpool comment was surely comparable to the league we were in and not meant literally, there is scepticism around. The time to start to think same old same old is when we get to the Brentford game and it's "We'll look at it again in January". Until then I'd say we are ahead of the game and Wilder clearly has a plan as seen in his cherry picking signings so far and two outstanding known targets.
A team that buys into the "project" and allies hard work, organisation and no small measure of ability will do ok' Too many teams in the Championship are more simply a collection of individuals. We are most definately not.

I appreciate that you might think he's just making excuses for not stumping up loads of cash this Summer

But in fairness the January transfer window will be MASSIVE for us.
Let's be honest we have loads of players with potential and they may do a good job
But I've no idea how it will pan out. We may end up having a big weakness up front, in goal or in defence.

By December17 Wilder will have learnt so much about his squad.
So it's vital that we have a war chest (contingency fund) for transfer services or loans in the Jan18 transfer window.

What's the old saying? We don't want to out all our eggs in one basket.

Good post sir.

Fair point, yet it was inconceivable he woke up one morning and thought that would be a cool thing to say without having it fed him by someone from Del Monte with authority to say yes.

Maybe but he said it at the announcement and he was the Princes eyes and ears at the club and had been an advisor for some time. If anyone have him the go ahead it's likely to have been him. Jim did have a habit of going native at times though.....

He did,but that would be commando as well. I'm quite prepared to believe it came from Princey, and the fact remains it went out and was never retracted or amended.

Was about to post the same thing. I'd forgotten what a farce that window (£1m literally pissed down the drain on horsefield)

Now I liked Warnock as a manager but he's always been a quantity over quality manager for me. He'd much rather have 5 strikers who get 4 goals a season rather than 1 20 goal striker.

We were aiming to be a premier league club and signed :
  • Horsefield
  • Lucetti
  • Dyer
  • Flitcroft
  • Akinbyi

None of whom contributed anything in the prem and actually when you look at it pretty much nothing on our run in too.

Given him or Wilder - I know who i'd entrust with an increased budget.

Unfortunately, Mr Warnock got complacent in the Premier League and thought we were safe and ultimately spunked the money up the wall. Chris Wilder says you should never do that!

Warnock however gave 100% attention to his contract for two seasons. There was no such complacency in that department, that's for sure.

Luckily that won't be an issue with this manager as it's already sorted and Chris Wilder isn't a complete fucking dick.

Just out of curiosity, what do you define as success?

As we've just romped the league and won our first bit of silverware for 35 years, I'm assuming it's not that?

" The signing of Ched Evans is ultimately my decision " C.Wilder .

Oh no it isn't :p:p:p
