Just one with it being with it Cup Final day and us as Blades being fortunate over the years to have had a few good cup runs and taken a few scalps along the way , what were the ones you enjoyed the most . Think my top 3 in no particular order were

Beating Cov in QF replay when Kelly saved Dublins penalty
Beating Man U at the lane , Jamie Hoyland
Losing to Hull in semi st Wembley, but at least we turned up had a good go & atmosphere before and during game

It was a game we lost funnily enough.

The semi-final against Arsenal at Old Trafford. We came up against a virtually unbeatable team and it still took a bunch of cheating bastards, Graham Poll and the greatest save in history to beat us.

Held my head high that day, brimming with pride.

Not sure what was worse the actual header. The Asaba volley or the Jags strike.
I still think that headers going in even when I see it today. Impossible save

In my first years supporting the Blades in the early 80s we didn't have much success. My first happy memory is a last minute Paul Stancliffe header against Lincoln in a second round replay. It was the first time I'd seen us get to the third round.

The last minute of extra time winner at Fulham in 2014.

I shouldn't really have gone as i'd been off sick from work for a week with a severe chest infection. Could barely breathe all game until winner went in then went running up and down the steps like a maniac. Walked back to the car with 20 odd Blades coaches lined up on Fulham high street (free travel I think) and people shouting out their windows complaining about Northern scrubbers singing about 'shagging women and drinking beer'. I went back to work at 7 the next morning and I think the smile on face probably gave it away that i'd been.

That's become fairly normal the last season or so, but that night was a real highlight in what up until that point had been an awful season.

Deej that shaun miller winner i remember watching that on itv4, absolutely amazing probably got to apologise to the neighbours that day. i screamed so loud when that in that probaly woke up there sleeping kids

At the Hull semi final the elderly man next to me was in the toilet for all 3 of our goals. When he returned after the 3rd, rather than comiserate, everyone was telling him to f off back there. If Hull had not scored a 5th I'm sure he would have obliged.

19th, 44th and 90th minutes. That's one hell of a slash/crap.

its a tough one that as at Bramall lane theres tough choices Kabba v leeds. the turnaround v port vale where we were 1- 0 after 89 mins & going out. then coady 1-1 or porter 3-1 v forest

but away from bramall lane. it got to be scougall goal. for hull to equalise then 30secs to retake the lead absolutely magical

Half time at Wembley against Hull.

We had one foot in the final, never ever thought that would be the case in 46 years of The Blades.

West Ham away in the 5th round in 1968 when we won 2-1
I think Phil Cliff scored the winner a great performance against one of the most fancied sides of the day with all their world cup winning stars playing !

Wasn't it pissing down too? I have a recollection of walking through the rain on the phone to one of my mates who didn't go saying how great it was etc.

Old Trafford an'all against Arsenal , Seamans save from Pesc and Jags ballooning over from 6yards out

This mans left foot is magic.
I remember Trevor Brooking's commentary after what Motson had said..."Well the last person you want it to drop to is Glynn Hodges on his left foot. Instead of trying to blast it and panic, he kept his composure, just dinked it over Schmeichel who had no chance.”

1. Lost 5-3 vs Hull at Wembley, still a great underdog performance despite the result

2. In the same year both the Fulham replay and Charlton at home in the quarter final.

Very recent I know but probably our best run in the FA Cup for god knows how many decades!

Just been chatting with one of the lads ,we were just on about that 2004 season when we reached both FA cup & League Cup semis we got shafted with two shocking decisions . As TD says earlier the Graham Poll odstruction at Old Trafford and when Kirkland flattened Tommy Mooney outside area at Anfield & only got a yellow ! We played well in both them semis did us proud against 2 of the best sides in the country at the time

1961/62 season 6th round away at Newcastle, 3 - 0 up after 18 minutes and won 3 - 1. We were Div 2, they were Div 1.
You just beat me to it. 54,000 crowd, I think in those days the away team got a third of the tickets, it certainly felt like at least 18,000 Blades, in all sections of the ground. No segregation then, Newcastle crowd, with their great cup tradition hardly made a sound. Ilkla Moor Bah tat ringing out all round the ground for 90 minutes. What was even more remarkable was that reserve left-back, Cliff Mason, was selected to play right-wing; imagine the meltdown on here if forums had existed then. And all 3 goals were scored by Billy Russell, who still combined football and a career in teaching. Amazing day.
2 questions for the resident experts. Has there been a bigger following at an away match than that day? Other than local derbies, perhaps. And when did Ilkla Moor get going as our Cup anthem? To me, that song means FA Cup.

I met Billy Russell and his wife on the train back to Chester after a game a couple of years ago. He'd been a guest of the club at the match. First thing his wife said to me was "Billy scored a hat-trick for the Blades in the Cup at Newcastle". She was still really so proud of him for that even 50 odd years later.

Absolute Magic

Most people have blocked it from their memory but we did have a very special half time at Wembley in 1993. Corky had just rolled in the equaliser and with a good second half we could have got over the line.

It wasn't to be but imagine if things had been slightly different in that second 45, one slice of luck and we could have been talking about one of the greatest games ever.

Turned out to be the worst I have ever felt after any game.

One day, one day ......

That's a great story. My impression of him from my autograph-hunting days was that he was a really nice guy. Great to hear that they are still proud of his hat-trick. Everyone who is still around from that day will remember it for sure. My dad, who worked Saturday mornings and couldn't get to away matches, was left speechless when they interrupted whatever was on Grandstand (is that right for 1961?) about 3.30 to announce the score line; had to check it wasn't April 1st!

Old Trafford v arsenal will always be special but for a different reason, I had to leave early as I had a flight to catch at Heathrow, I parked my car in a school yard just round from the ground, as I was parking in a position near the gates somebody comes up and says you can't Park there, I told him I had to leave early as I was in the medical profession, ok he said and off I went, on my return the gates were locked and as I stood there cursing a bloke comes running up to me getting his keys out, so sorry you must be the doctor? Tha what? I said, oh, sorry yes, thats right, he opened up and let me out, and then ran into the middle of the road and stopped all the traffic, waved me through and saluted! I pissed myself laughing all the way down the m6!
