I played against Mick Buckley on a couple of occasions. He played for Manchester schools U15 and was an obvious talent even then.

Well Happy Harry said he'd take us out of div 2 and as promotion favs he delivered on it taking us to div 3 :eek: .. I remember the last home game against Leicester think it was 2-2 and even though we were down everyone was singing Weds here we come ! But highlight of season was beating Liverpool 1-0 in League Cup when they were European Cup holders and sides didn't play reserve or youth team IMG_0311.JPG
 
Newcastle 1 Blades 3 in April 1979. Mick Speight. Not sure who is the Newcastle player. We did the double over Newcastle that season but bottom club Blackburn did the double over us!

Yes, I had Irving Mattress on my mind - I went to that game, sat in their new stand in front of the Leazes Terrace and got the dog's abuse from the locals.

Same here! I was at the left-hand end of that new stand and tied a red and white scarf on the railings. About eight of the locals spotted it and were threatening all sorts of bollocks. 'Worry not!' I thought. I'm up here and you're down there. Except, after the match they were waiting for me. I dived under a van and escaped.

It was weird , they were Sunderland who were fine until it went Pete tong at the card table then it was the ok coral. What made me laugh was the barmaid ran round and knicked the card money as it was kicking off.
The nut job was a bloke called Karzi who has since passed away I believe. Last I saw was a man at work sign flying through the air towards him.
It's a story that still gets told up there and here .

We were drinking and chatting with them at dinner time and they invited us back after for a drink ,everything was fine then BOOM he was a one man army ,his own mates were shitting themselves. My abiding memory is him walking towards a bridge and about 20 lads running away from him and throwing stuff at him. Someone hit him with a pool cue in the pub and it may as well have been a matchstick ,Nightmare on Chester-Le-Street :)
