What a muppet. I've said it for a long time, I hope it's with us but Wilder will end up managing in the premiership.

Where did you get those numbers from? £4.23M with Northampton??

Whether you love him or loath him , you can't deny that taking Oxford up then saving Northampton from relegation and then taking them up and Sheffield United as Champions, has been a fantastic achievement.

My son said a year ago that Wilder could be a Premiership manager. I laughed a lot! But now? Who knows. If he did get a team promoted to the Premiership would he be the first manager ever to get promotion from every Division from the Conference to the Premiership?

As an aside, I reckon that he learned a lot at Oxford and has to be fair to him, not repeated the mistakes that he made here.

For a club that think Appleton is the god of football they still seem to be obsessing over Wilder.
 
6.63 million . Is that the wage budget they are referring too ? If so it could be accurate . I'd heard we had the 4th largest wage budget in League 1 this season and I'm assuming that puts us behind Bolton MK and Charlton .
 
The poster says Wilder "spent £6.6m" which suggests, even if he was on about wages, he thinks that Wilder has added the £6.6m to our wage bill

It is frustrating seeing a few fans of other clubs talk about how we have the "biggest wage bill so should go up". Not only is this the lowest budget any manager has had since we have been down here, if it was all about the wage bill then we would have gone up 6 years ago.

I wouldn't read too much into this Roy . The Oxford fans still have a real bee in their bonnet with Wilder leaving them when he did . The fact that he's won back to back promotions , as champions , in just three years since he left will have served to exacerbate whatever Ill will they felt for him aswell .

Life can be a real bitch at times .

I don't think I'd agree with that.

Not saying that Wilder has spent a fortune, but Mr. Adkins, as shite as we was, had his hands tied. He had an ok budget. He just chose to spend it on utter shite (besides Billy).

I've no idea what the budget was for both but I would guess Adkins had a bigger wage bill . In fairness to him most of that wage bill was for players he didn't sign but I think the likes of Brayford, Hammond, Baptiste and Sammon would have been on a fair whack compared to the current crop. Even players like Flynn had signed an improved contract a season before .
 
New money, or money already invested in contracts pre Wilder? I'm guessing this is the whole playing expenditure. Wilder isn't responsible for the ludicrous contracts handed out before he got the reins. He has got more out of Coutts, Basham, Freeman etc too. Oh, and we've sold three players for big money: DCL, Ramsdale, Adams.
Not done badly then, has he?
 
Ok it doesn't really sound THAT high, but i think the £6.6 million spent is higher than we can really expect.

I made a quick and rough (steady) estimate of the Transfer fees and wages paid
- Squad 25 Players (taken from end of season Squad)
- Doesn't include Loans out
- Includes (and assumes for worst case) Loan players for entire season
- Doesn't include loans like Riley being returned
- Transfer Fees based on reports in media and the fact that wilder stated we didn't pay more than 300k for a player.
- Wages based on 12 months
- Agency Fees paid are as reported last week in the press
- Outgoing Players Transfer fees have NOT been included, this is pure expenditure

On this basis, I've estimated
- We paid fees for 8 players, £1.175M
- Average weekly wage £2980
- Total Wages £3.874M
- Agency Fees £109,866.00
-Total £5.59M

I have probably also assumed it to be higher than the actual, but even this is £1.5M below the Oxford fan's guess.

For 25 players in the squad? I think that would be way too High, but here
- Average weekly wage £5800
- Total Wages £7.54M
-Total £8.245 M

Weekly Wage range £4000-£15000 with a mean of £5000

Looking at that i think its way too high, perhaps under Clough or Adkins, we'd be in this range, but with the likes of Hussey, Freeman, Wright, Brooks, Scougal, Reed, McNulty I just can't see them being on wages of 4k a week, similarly i can't see Billy, EEL, Fleck and Moore (as top earners) being on 10-15k either.

Sorry fella, no way any of those youth players are on that money.

As apprentices they are on £105 pw, and even as young pros it's not a great deal more.
Their mates will be earning more money in their local supermarket or McDonalds.

I originally estimated Sharp to be on an all in weekly rate of 10k (so assuming bonus' etc in that rate)

Median rate was 2.5k

Youth players not included, just the squad 25 from the OS

That's got to be drivel.

The Northampton figure is crazy, how can they spend less than 2million than us last year in League 2, in administration with crap crowds. Makes no sense.

I love how they say he achieved nothing at Oxford. He only got them promoted, won the local derbies (which anyone can do apparently) and laid the foundations for the footballing god that is Michael Appleton

I remember reading their message board when Wilder was manager. Seemed to be quite split, some recognised he was a good manager and others were convinced he had reached his level at League 2 mid-table. A number of posters obviously had a personal beef with him and are obviously really struggling to see how Wilder's career has gone upwards and cannot allow their ego's to admit they got it wrong. In fairness Wilder was a different manager back then, he was quite negative when his team were leading and the football was not as attractive. I know I keep repeating myself but do think Knill has added the missing elements that Wilder lacked.

When he was at Oxford, because he was an ex Blades player i kept an eye on things, seemed to do well results wise and it seemed strange that he left Oxford for a relegation battle at Northampton. But i read yesterday that Kelvin Thomas was at Oxford, then Northampton, is that also right?

No, Knill never assisted Wilder @ Oxford, Mickey Thomas was his assistant (which I think actually limited Wilder's work). Wilder assisted Knill @Bury before leaving for Oxford. Yes, I believe Kelvin Thomas was @Oxford but left well before Wilder did. I think Wilder was really affected by the 'abuse' he got from some sections of the Oxford fanbase, shows just how much when he left his position at Oxford who were around 7th with games in hand, for Northampton who were well adrift.

If it's all about budgets and what was spent, then having the 4th highest budget in league 1 and finishing champions is some going by Wilder

Fortunately or unfortunately, it's not always about budget, it's about the manager and his staff.

There's been many a season we've had a top 3 budget and done diddly squat

So in conclusion, fk off Oxford fans :)

We've spent the last 6 years down here with the highest budget and shit managers

Now i'd guess we have the cheapest squad and manager we've had in that time and we've HMS pissed the league
 



He is intimating we bought players for 6 and a bit million rather than it being the wages
I thought pre season we could shell out 2m and probably werent far off , but theres no way of ever knowing with undisclosed fees
and some are staged payments based on appearances which complicate getting figures
But the one thing that gives it away as pure guesswork is the claim Northampton spent 4 million
Its well known the players went several weeks without getting paid early season as the cobblers didnt have enough to pay a fee for anyone
they were all bargain frees , or on hp

The comment its easy to find out is the most stupid comment as it usually 2 years later when the figures come to light, and you can pin it down more
