here you go then
which of the team thats won the title and played in 13 game unbeaten run deserves showing the door without getting a kick in the championship
  • 2 Moore
  • 16 Freeman
  • 6 Basham
  • 5 O'Connell
  • 13 Wright
  • 24 Lafferty
  • 15 Coutts
  • 4 Fleck
  • 44 Carruthers
  • 27 L Clarke
  • 26 O'Shea
Substitutes
  • 1 Long
  • 10 Sharp
  • 11 Done
  • 16 Hanson
  • 19 Ebanks-Landell
  • 21 Duffy
  • 32 Chapman

Well, EEL and Chapman probably won't be here. O'Shea is only contracted til the end of the season. Jury is still out on Clarke. Hanson is probably only OK as plan B on the bench. Done has barely featured for ages so you would think he would go. Long might be moved on. Some that are currently first teamers might become bench/ rotation players if we can bring better ones in (Lafferty for example).

all those who played in last 2 games deserve a squad place
see 3 maybe 4 new faces coming in

be insulting rushing players out of the club thats earned this title

I get some blades have pet scapegoats and a need to pick on players though

you carry on doing what you like
It's not insulting, its management. You get the most out of what you've got, and move them on when they're no longer at that level.
Seeing loyalty as something that means you owe certainly players who aren't up to the next level a debt of gratitude is weak and only ends up causing bigger issues within the team.
It needs to be handled well, and that is where loyalty is shown but you can't duck a tough decision due to over sentimentality.

This is an interesting subject because I always find it staggering how far apart people are in their estimates of what Championship wage budgets are nowadays.

I heard somewhere a year ago that our wage budget this season would be £6m. Let's just assume for arguments sake that it was...by trebling that figure my understanding is that we would still be in the bottom third of Championship wage budgets. Eye watering.

Wasn't it said to be about £12million when we were last in the championship?

Being brutally honest, from that list I'd raise question marks over Clarke, O'Shea, Done, Hanson and look for immediate improvements to play at a level higher.
I'd also be looking for competition/replacements for; Moore, Basham, O'Connell, Ebanks-Landell, Wright, Duffy, Sharp, Chapman to deepen the squad.

It's not that I don't appreciate what those players have done for us, but if you don't keep challenges fresh and raise the bar you'll be going backwards.
You can't replace them all, but I'd certainly be looking in those areas for 6-7 new faces.

Clarke and Hanson were brought in on 3 year contracts to get us up

it worked
why would they go

its not about loyalty
they came in to do a job and did it
thats professionalism
Clarke and Hanson on 3 year contracts will be here next season , might not play all the time but will be options

Well, EEL and Chapman probably won't be here.

I think you may be wrong regarding EEL. He will fit well into a back four, which United will almost certainly revert to in the Championship. His signing of a new contract for Wolves sounded a bit too coincidental to me and was probably part of a three-way-deal to pave the way for his permanent move here.

I wouldn't be against signing EEL for the right money as long as we also brought in a more proven centre back.

Him signing a 3 year deal helps him get a permanent move here when he's been out of favour for a few weeks.

Why would we change our formation to a back 4? We're promoted with 4 games to go you don't get much better than that. The top 2 premiership teams play the same way.

The top two premiership teams have top two premiership centre backs. If we play three at the back next year without a major signing at CB and full back/wing back we will won't last five minutes. We'll see.

Indeed and well done to each one of them, now we need to move them on and bring in better. That's professional and it's the game.
Of course they can stay and see out their contracts, which is totally their right, but if they want to play they'll have to move.

Clarke has the experience we need Hanson is no worse than many Ive watched plying their trade in the championship
CW had no need to give him a 3 year deal , if he didnt think he could step up

Not sure either would sign on a 2 year deal, plus it means the club can get something for them in the summer.

meant for big money

How on earth could you have meant for big money? You were talking about the players promoted being good enough to go again and indicating that Wednesday stayed up with largely the squad that got them promoted. That was your basis to argue that our current squad would be largely good enough to compete. The discussion has absolutely nothing to do with the sum spent on each player and everything to do with whether the squad was overhauled. 21 new players suggests a significant overhaul. Even though they only paid about £1.5 million in transfer fees, players like Bothrooyd, Barkley, Wickham etc. will have been on quite a lot of money. So will free agents like Anthony Gardner, Chris Kirkland etc.

Because, as you say, they were brought in to get us up and at around the age of 30, neither has consistently managed to cut it in the championship (Hanson has never played at that level). That said, I think 1 will stay but not convinced we’ll keep both.

By the way, Hanson was signed on a 2.5 year contract, not 3.

Possibly. Time will tell I guess. But there’s certainly a case for him leaving given that, as far as we know, he’s not our player and his loan will expire.

Not saying EEL won't be back for us, but I'm struggling to see how him signing a 3 year deal at Wolves means it's paved the way to arrive back here.

All I see here is that Wolves now dictate any possible terms/fees of any departure. What would it have meant had he not signed a new deal? Possibly the player and agent decide and said player goes where he likes

The other possibility of course is Lambert wants him long term back at Wolves hence a new 3 year deal

Didn't KM say in the Telegraph the year we were relegated from the Championship the players wage bill was £18.2 million and that had had been reduced from the previous year by £4.1 million, can't see KM making the same mistake again.

we will deal in the economic end of the market with probably a couple of headline signings

well they are both here till 2019

CW likes them , which is all that matters
if he decides they are surplus fine
but if others just dont like them, tough

I like the back three / five formation we have.. best of both worlds in my opinion, I think unless CW signs a whole different bunch of players we will continue, but we do need an upgrade to the steadiness of Wright (much as I love him). We'll be under footballing pressure next season and being flexible with wing backs is the way to go I think. Agree the EEL contract scenario was all a bit too coincidental. But let's see eh

In todays Star Wilder intimates those that took us up wont be rushed out the door .

“We go into a tough division,” he said. “We all understand that. We’ll sit down, talk and add but we’ve got the core of a really good group who can play there too. Flecky, he’s been outstanding. He’s one of those who can, without a shadow of a doubt, up there. We’ve done the recruitment well, in two windows. I’ve got to say the backing I’ve received from (co-owners) the Prince (Abdullah bin Musa’ed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud) and from Kevin (McCabe) has been outstanding.”
