Serious question

We've all been horrendously disappointed too many times before by end of season disasters that it's hard to remain outwardly optimistic. I feel that this season will be different though and that we will finish as league champions. However, we're just speculating as anything could happen so like many have said, take one game at a time and we can all be dead fucking chuffed if it all goes to plan. UTB and Happy Easter

its not relentlaess optimism
its a fact 88 points sees us better 4th downwards best and if fleetwood drop 4 points in the last 8 we are up

optimism plays no part in it as does no commas

I started partying after we murdered Bolton
only dumb arses are holding their bum cheeks together
Oh yes, the Bolton that had to put out a weakened side and haven't dropped a point since including Fleetwood away who we dropped 5 points to.If so cut and dried why not just wait a couple more games whilst enjoying the ride, instead of sounding more and more like the noisiest and most obnoxious Wednesdayite? :)

Do I think we will get promoted? Yes. Is there a possibility we won't? Yes a remote one. 4 wins , 2 draws, 2 defeats for us, 8 wins for Fleetwood , and 6 wins 2 draws for Bolton, means we all finish on 92 points with our goal difference advantage probably overturned.

Now had Wider played Jake Wright against Fleetwood we would have been another 3 points ahead of them and the possibility gets even more remote, However I will not be nervous on every match day when its mathematically certain that we are promoted.

I'm hoping we get promoted, which is entirely different to being confident about promotion.
I think our problem is that we've been disappointed so many times over the last 5 seasons and until that capital P is placed alongside Sheffield United in the League One table I really won't want to party...

I am convinced that we will go up as champions with plenty of room to spare.

Stop panicking ladies & gents, enjoy the ride and stop posting multiple panic mode threads.

Only thing I'm interested in at this moment in time is the Blades getting 3 points on Satdi

Then I'll be interested in how Fleetwood and Bolton got on

Then I'll focus on the next game just like Wilder, Knill and the players will do and that's all that matters

The rest will take care of itself

I will be gutted if we do not win the league.

Finishing second to the likes of Bolton or Fleetwood would feel like failure. It is about time we won something and this is our chance. Also to join that list of only a few teams to have won all four divisions of English Football.

Going up as champions will be a boost for next season as well. I can't see us throwing it away now but if any team could it would be us. We have a habit of doing everything the hard way.

We should be enjoying the ride, soaking up the glory to come, but somehow the fear of failure or cocking it up is always on the mind.

HH

I was convinced we'd stay up in 94 and we'd go up in 2003. So I'm aware that sometimes my gut feelings are just wind. Yes, I think we'll go up but it's not a certainty yet. If others want to ejaculate prematurely that's fine but I'll wait until it's mathematically certain.

Fleetwood's last 8:

Bury away
Swindon home
Oxford away
Oldham away
Peterborough away
Millwall home
Gillingham away
Port Vale home

They all look winnable but of course they'll not win them all. If they win 2 out of 3 home matches and 2 out of 5 away, drawing the rest, they will have done really well but will finish with 84 points. We only need 2 wins, a draw and 5 defeats to beat that. In other words, even if we hit relegation form (which would be a hell of a surprise given the strength of the squad) we'll still go up.
Fleetwood lose at Bury - you heard it here first !

Eek Eek Squeak Squeak Squeeeeeeeak, Parp.

I just don't get what you want BTL. Does everyone have to say, "Yes, you are correct oh wise one. Why could we lesser mortals not see what you did weeks ago"? Is that what you want? Some of us hold a contrary view. Is that ok? AND, God Forbid it does all go tits up, but lets hope this team doesn't fuck up and stick a "told you so" well and truly up your wide open and presently relaxed bum cheeks. :D

Not a wind up or designed to create arguments, but I would genuinely like to know who isn't yet convinced we will be promoted?
If I've calculated properly, 4 wins 1 draw and 3 defeats for us would mean Fleetwood need to win all 8 of their last games to beat us to auto promo.
Leaving aside the so-called footballing gods or unforeseen circumstances, does any one still think there's a possibility we won't go up and if so, why?
If I gave you 10 grand to put on us going up as one of the top or on us finishing in the play-off positions, which would you choose?

Give me £10k and I'll have a think about it.

I have zero doubt about auto. I have maybe 30% doubt about Champions.

...and Swindon shock them by playing like they did in the second half against us, but this time with Lawrence Vigouroux in goal. ;)

How sure are we all that chelsea are already premier league champions? they have a 10 point lead and are being chased by spurs! Yet lots are still papping themselves about having a 10 point lead and being chased by Fleetwood! Perspective please my fellow blades!

its amazing how you can see bolton playing well but seem unimpressed by our form

why is that do you think

bolton played a weakened side v us , who chose their team , madine was available wasnt picked
tell me why that occurred , was it our fault

no I want an explanation of how you see this current team suddenly turning from the best team in the league into an adkins team overnight

have we fallen down before yes
were they like this team

fuck no this has balls and character
you saying weve collapsed before is true , but luckily not in any shape or form relevant

this is a team full of fight and focus

Anxiety, nerves, panic can do all sorts of things. It can mess with your head and body (as I know to my cost). An unlucky own goal, a couple of unfortunate penalties, injuries, sendings off, a last second dropped bollock by our keeper. A team going on a wonder run unbeaten to the end. All sorts of things can conspire to screw up this season. It wouldn't be football if there wasn't a nasty little gremlin lurking in the undergrowth. Like the one that made Gerrard slip when Liverpool were nailed on for the title. Like the one that moved the ball when John Terry had that penalty in the Champions League. Like the one that messed with Keegan's Head when they were 12 points clear in 1996.

It's not the team's heart or footballing ability I worry about, it's the other stuff they can't control and sometimes stuff like the pressure to achieve does for you.

For the record, I had us third until we picked up all the points at Swindon where I had us down for a draw. My cool head prediction is joint top on points with Fleetwood and we win by GD. My worry head can see us screwing it up or having it taken from us for all the reasons above. (add to that your wingback getting an international call up)

You carry on being confident. I'll carry on worrying if that's ok.

Let me help you with some blue sky thinking which might get you through this....

Thoughts are not facts

I wasn't convinced, mainly because of our history of disappointments, but i now think we will.My change of mind follows the nature of Boltons victory at Fleetwood, they bullied them and won easily,i think that defeat and Bolton winning at Oxford will be enough to end Fleetwoods challenge,in fact i think their season may falter because of it.Bolton will end the season strongly, but the 6 point cushion we have may be just enough to win the title, let's hope so,but i think it will be very close !!

I'm VERY impressed by our form - in fact we're playing the very best FOOTBALL I've ever seen from a Blades team (and I include the John Harris era within that) but as a Blade, a football supporter and ex-player and manager in junior football, I know that real football is unpredictable (otherwise everyone would win thousands in the bookies, wouldn't they?)
We're in a great position, we shouldn't cock it up, but no-one can say for sure.
As I've said before - if we do it, I'll celebrate long and loud - but when we do it and not before. :)

be glad when weve won 3 more , as even those of a very nervous disposition will be hard pressed to see us fail

its painful watching blades too frightened to enjoy possibly the best team weve ever had in its environment through fear of ghosts of the past

just want to see nothing but smiling blades

we deserve it

Ah, I see now why you can't understand!

Why on earth do you think anyone isn't enjoying the best team we've ever had?
That's a given.

The only difference between us is that you're celebrating success that hasn't happened yet and we,the terrified ones, are simply waiting for the success to happen before we celebrate it. ;)

The bookies don't always get it right (cough - Leicester - cough) but if you gave me £10,000 I wouldn't be able to put it on the Blades being promoted because the bookies (well SkyBet anyway) have closed their books. If the bookies are convinced, then so am I. Almost.

MMMMmmmmmmm. That might be the key to lifting depression and anxiety. Not a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist are you?
