I was also at the Scunny game last season and felt totally depressed at the time. The penny had dropped that we could be in league 1 for many more years.
Regards the match (like many matches last season) we played OK but a bit like like a pre season work out. Lots of good patient possession but far too much side ways passing. The thing that was clear to me was
The players were going through the motions, didn't seem motivated or bothered.
And for that attitude I blame the manager.
Not one player was willing to take responsibility and grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
Scunthorpe just quite ordinary, but very well organised, confident and playing as a team.
It was pretty obvious that it was only a matter of time before they would score.
When we went 1-0 behind I expected a reaction and for us to up the tempo and move out of 2nd gear But no, the players continued to go through the motions.
At that moment I knew the manager had lost the dressing room.
I don't mind lack of ability but there's no excuse for a lack of passion or effort.
The other thing that totally depressed me was the lack of booing and anger at Bramall Lane.
Even us Blades fans seemed to have lost hope and couldnt be bothered to even boo.
The turn around in less than 12 months by Wilder has been amazing
And for that it doesn't matter what he does in future because I'll always be grateful to Wilder.
I hope our fans remember what Wilder has done for this club when he goes though a bad patch and they think back when booing him and shouting "Wilder out".
