James Hanson today.

Well I'm reading the hype of the carruthers thread and thinking, hang on a minute, although I agree wholeheartedly, I'm not reading anything about Hanson, and for me he had a great first game for us, he won plenty, he moved about, he caused problems and just to put the cherry on, he scored!
I think, abit more confidence and getting to know the lads and this could be another brilliant signing for us, he worked well with both sharp and Lavery, and these two partnerships are what are going to get us out of this league I believe, i think we can assume, barring any injuries etc that Done, Mcnulty and Clarke have pretty much had their arses handed to them.
Hanson held the ball up well I thought. Good debut for him!!

I think that's where we miss Che Adams, to be honest and have never really replaced him, as much as he had his detractors.

I think the problem is we have a system that we like to play, and Billy automatically commanding a starting place, understandably. We've then picked a couple of the better rival strikers from the Division (Clarke and Hanson) but neither either suit the system or playing alongside Sharp. It's encouraging but still a bit of square pegs in round holes.

No we don't miss Che at all he was a big time Charlie , good player when he wanted to be , but he wouldn't put the work in match after match.

Was interested to see what he did on corners when we were defending them. Despite Wimbledon being such a big side, he didn't mark anyone - left that to the others. Instead he seemed to be positioned right in the middle of the goal, just outside the 6-yard box, ready to attack anything flung into the heart of the area. He's clearly going to be a hell of an asset with corners, at both ends of the pitch.

Thought overall he had a fine debut, personally. Surprised me if I'm honest. What I liked most was him regularly showing for the ball and asking for it to be played in to his feet. Something that leads you to think he'll fit in fine with our passing style, especially because he clearly can make the ball stick & can shield it properly.

Wasn't as dominant in the air as I'd have expected but maybe that's for the reasons Ricky suggests above. But no doubt at all he's a pest & an irritant to defenders, with a real presence, and his work-rate was excellent.

All in all he slotted in pretty seamlessly. Very promising.

My point was more that we don't have anyone who runs and takes on their man one-on-one like Che did.

Perfect summary. I loved the fact he was demanding the ball. I also love the fact the Wimbledon centre halves will be waking up covered in bruises knowing they've been up against a proper centre forward. Bout time we had a forward to dish it out like that.

Plus JH made space for others - drew defenders away from Sharp for example.

It was a really good debut.

The one thing I noticed about Hanson was how big he looked and how ungainly and gangly he looks. His movement just doesn't seem to look right, he seems awkward, and he was the rarest of birds, someone who made Connor Sammon look asthetically pleasing and you wonder exactly how he made it as a professional footballer.

The you see his control is better than you would think, he first touch is actually decent, his movement was great, he has a bit of footballing intelligent and he had something about him, and offers something different that we have been missing.

First time I had seen Hanson and I was pleasantly surprised by him, and have a feeling he might just now be our new cult hero.

Strangely enough, his aggression seemed to spread throughout the side. We'd been lacking it in midfield a lot recently. But Fleck was a beast yesterday, and Couttsy put it about a bit just like he did earlier in the season (including indulging in one of his trademark ridiculous two-footed challenges). Even Duffy was challenging for unwinnable headers (making it uncomfortable for much bigger opponents) like a goodun.

Where are all the folk who wrote him off before he'd even switched off the ignition in the car park?

Would love to learn more from their wisdom about the game!

He ran around every bit as much as Runaround (thank Pele we won't see much of him from now on) ever did, but showed you can still be effective whilst doing so. Thanks James. Well played.
Wow! Praise indeed he is clearly your type of "proper footballer".

I explained what it means on another thread. Have a read. Tufty uses the phrase all the time as well. Ask him. It doesn't include all the ragamuffin shadow-chasers that you admire so much.

Hang in there for the Hoof.

Were you at the game yesterday SIADIA, cos Pinchy was "txting" in Shoutbox.in the first half. And if you were typing on "yer phone" the speed would have put any adolescent girl who got a new Galaxy S7 for Crimbo to shame.

Oh...he's logged out. Quelle surprise.

Bet you cannot wait for the next round of Sheep.
Personally I love to watch players who will have a go like Duffy and Fleck and the player who gives more from the lower base like Freeman.
Now I know you like to watch players tapping it around the back four oh and your static hero who likes to save his energy once someone has gone passed him for when he has to soap himself down in the shower. Oh yes that is right you were the one who liked Weir and your other hero Doyle controlling the action.
Whilst we are on the subject of referring, perhaps you would like to check out Bergen Blade s examples of why our defending was so exploited in the previous poor performances.

Scougall is probably the weakest member of our squad.

Louis Reed is offended!

I feel a bit sorry for Scougall. I've never been a big fan of his and he has flaws in his game but he's played some useful cameos this season and certainly done better than last year, which was a lost season for him. We do have many better options now in midfield though.

I am quite surprised one of Scougall and Reed were not loaned out, actually.

I think he could work better with Lavery up top but there's absolutely no chance you'd drop the L1's top scorer.

There's a few on here that would drop him though.

"Sharp's crap and past it. He hasn't scored for 88 minutes........."

Don't think they would want to play non league football, and isn't the transfer window closed!

Was you at the game?

What are your opinions on James Hanson?

What do you think to how we are playing?

As far as i can see, you seem to spend all your time baiting people waiting for a response but we actually see very little footballing discussion, it would be nice to know what your thoughts are?

I can't remember the last time we had so many options up top to choose from.

I do wonder if taking sharp off as messaage to the squad to say even the captain can be touch, especially after everyone has a roasting bar sharp after the Wimbledon game. Billy should have had a hatrick yesterday

I thought that it was a good idea to bring Billy off for 2 reasons: The game was already won so didn't need to risk an injury to him and it gave the fans a chance to show their appreciation to him by cheering him and singing happy birthday to him. He came off the pitch with a huge grin.
