How about as S24SU editorial policy we remove any URLs linking directly to The Star so as not to drive traffic and increase their ad-revenue?

Ironically, considering how they gather their news (cough... Sheffield Forum, Facebook, here, Owlstalk) they are quite keen on preventing people "copying" their articles so please don't c&p.

Great idea...............and while we're at it, how about a completely different section within the forum for all things Sheffield Star related so that for anything written and posted on here we don't have to read the same old bias stories and tales of incompetent journalism every day?

As I have said, I really don't like the rag but every time they print an article and it gets posted on here it's like groundhog day with all the examples of incompetence and bias!

Don't like them? Don't read them. Be consistent with your own advice

Because I won't stop posting these threads.

To be fair, when the thread title references The Star, you only have yourself to blame for clicking in it...

It's hardly the forum equivalent of rick-rolling.

Anyway, here's my current favourite from APILN to add some humour to proceedings:

Maybe just merge the stir with porktalk? They wouldn't have to be concerned with plagiarism then.

They could rename it 'The Stork' :D

If the "sensationalist" headlines were purely to increase website traffic to increase revenue, then surely it would make sense for them to do the same for Wednesday stories as they have such a "massive" fan base and therefore would attract more clicks and more revenue?

The obvious lack of Wednesday-related articles written in the same manner as the Carruthers article would suggest it's not a click bait matter but a very childish, unprofessional and pathetic bias

Fair enough, but maybe sometimes they will print something I want to read that I haven't come across before - I will never buy a copy or deliberately go on their website but if I see a link that sounds like it might tell me something I don't know, I'll click on it. The point I am trying to make is that on this forum every time the Star is mentioned it does turn into groundhog day with the same posts and comments that are posted every time the star is mentioned!

See my reply to TD...........this forum is great for many things including non repetitive posting!

Obviously, if you wish to protest, there are a number of things you can do.

The big one is to write to their local advertisers stating that while they continue to pay to advertise in the Sheffield Star, you will be withholding your custom. Cc any letters sent to Johnston Press.

That's barring the obvious: don't buy it, encourage others not to buy it, don't read it online or if you must, stringently ad-block.

They like to whip up this outrage to drive traffic to their site as their print circulation dwindles. They are the journalistic equivalent of the "weight-loss tips your doctor doesn't want you to know!!!" pop-ups... and well, we wouldn't link to them either.

Ordinarily we're not for censorship, but I think we can exercise the word-filter in this case.

What are the weight loss tips my Doctor doesn't want me to know though?

Or United new signing in cheat 5,000 crowd out of 5 loaves and two fishes scam.

"Picture evidence of raucous drunken dinner party when in front of the rest of the squad, new signing Jesus accuses another player of betraying him"

"Chansiri provides Tuna sandwiches from one small Tupperware box for 500,000 crowd at Hillsborough as Owls run out of pies"

Well it stands to reason that if they are going to print a fresh round of skewed shite about our club then you're going to see a fresh round of reaction to it from somebody, most likely on the clubs forums and elsewhere.

I wouldn't even mention the Star if they were just simply a shit paper, but they are also a shit paper with a thinly veiled editorial line against the club which half the city follows. It's irresponsible journalism and it's worth highlighting when it arises.

I don't disagree but preaching to the already converted on this forum is not really going to help

This forum has far more readers than active members. If highlighting the subject convinces just one individual to have nothing to do with that publication then it's worth it.

Well it's just as well the rag is virtually extinct.

Why would anyone be bothered about someone pissing in a pint pot when a few hundred blades were pissing in the sinks at Bury due to woefully inadequate toilet facilities?.......
Damn!! I've just given them tomorrow's headline
;)

Does the Star still have 'In The Courts'? that was where I used to see what some of my old school mates were up to, given that I lived on the Cross in my youth.

They've had a "name and shame" campaign running recently, where they've repeatedly given headline coverage over to naming perpetrators of a certain crime.

"Good!", I hear you shout. What crime is this, that they are so determined to stamp out that they give endless column inches, repeated weekly reporting, an editorial, letters on the subject and even top headline spots on the website week-in/week-out?

Is it murder? Raping and pillaging? Burglaries? Armed robbery? Fraud? Drug dealing? Err, no, it's littering. They basically scan through the list of court appointments each week and report on the handful of people (mostly Chinese students) who've dropped a crisp packet on the floor. "Name and shame" indeed!

Pulitzer Prize winning stuff chaps. Keep up the good work.
