Someone on high at the club needs to start banging a few heads at this tin pot rag. I am sure the combined wealth of our owners could scare the shit out of them with threats of lawsuits etc.

Embarrassingly biased for a paper that is supposed to service the entire community of Sheffield.

UTB
Agreed Dronnie. Let's be right, if the club banned it entirely it would have little or no effect on 99% of Blades fans or the club's fortunes. Tell them to end the bias or we pull the plug for good.

The purpose of the Stir is to impress the not so bothered, the neutrals, those that don't give a toss.

The truth about the Sheffield area is that 10% support Wendy pretty closely and 10% support United pretty closely.
They might not all go to games but they follow the club fairly enthusiastically, they know what's going on at the club, they know the players, they buy merchandise and might go to an odd game here and there.

80% of Sheffield doesn't give a monkeys toss.

It's this 80% that the Stir targets with their bigging up of Wendy and belittling of United.

As a result, if you asked this 80% which one of the two clubs they support and really pushed them for an answer most would say Wendy even though they don't give a shyte. But they'd make their choice solely based on the shit that they've read in this rag.

This is enough to create the massive myth that they all crave so much.

Di
This is my post from elsewhere, could post another for Radio Sheffield
just as bad:

People should remember the Star's recent editorial lines re United on
all important issues:

No condemnation for Wednesdays administration and ripping off of local
businesses.

Tevez Affair: football should be decided on the pitch regardless of
any impropriety by West Ham or the FA.

World Cup bid: no opposition to Wednesday getting the proposed gig,
despite bid relying on money from the public purse. McCabe had offered
to fund the Blades bid. Also wider questions about propriety of
Wednesdays bid not mentioned by Star, despite McCabe's comments

Focus on human right record of Saudia Arabia after the Prince got
involved. Ignorance of human rights abuses of Thailand (Chansiri),
Serbia (Mandaric) and Azerbaijan, after proposed takeover of
businessman Hafiz Mammadov

No comment on animal rights abuses of John West Tuna, despite
mainstream media covering it and mass petitions.

Ched Evans: no condemnation of any anti Evans chants before his first
trial - including prominent "she said no" chants from Wednesday.

Condemnation of Sufc fans support of Evans, including a ridiculous
article that sensationalised a few morons singing a minor chant for
Ched. No mention was made of the whole crowds support for a recently
deceased child on the same night. This was subsequently removed after public outcry

Editors opposition to SUFC allowing the released Evans to continue his
rehabilitation at SUFC once released.

No opposition to his signing for Chesterfield.

A succession of racist incidents among Wednesday fans, not being given
the primacy that they'd have no doubt got if it was Blades fans
involved.

No condemnation of Wednesdayites actions in Palace relegation match.

Condemnation of Marlon King signing.

Printing open letter from Coventry fan on Sisu issue. No room given
for Sufc supporter(s) response for several days - until public outcry.

Focus on new SUFC signing, Samir Carruthers', off field indiscretion: "Urinating in a glass and supporting Arsenal: Everything you need to know..."
Didn't Wednesday sign a player who had someone hostage in their house and chained to a radiator, could well have been one of the Johnson's if my memory serves me correctly

There is some truth to the above.

For example my mother is in her 70's and hardly knows anything about football, been to 1 United match in her life in 1980. But even she recently said "Wednesday have always had great support, much better than United. It's common knowledge" and "Wednesday have always filled their stadium"

So I told her that Wednesday were famous for their massive number of empty blue seats.
I also told her that Wednesday haven't averaged over 30,000 for 50 years.

She didn't seem to believe me, genuinely surprised and said she thought it was common knowledge that Wednesday had really big support. Made me smile that even she has this misconception.

Exactly Sheffsteel
Amazing how many people think that way

This gets carried over to people from other areas of the country who do not know or care a toss

You can imagine the conversation between "Mr & Mrs not interested in football from Sheffield" and "Mr & Mrs keen fans of another club" whilst on holiday in Gran Canaria

"Well we come from Sheffield and we aren't bothered about football really..........but if we were we'd support Wendy because they are a massive club that get 40,000 every week, Sheffield United are rubbish and never won nowt and hardly anyone goes to watch them"

Many would just believe it, or accept it because it's amazing how many keen fans of another club do not know the first thing about another club

Before you know it, you've got a Nationwide epidemic of people that just assume they are this huge club

I myself have no idea how many people go to watch Rochdale or Stockport or MK Dons or Plymouth every week, I haven't got a clue, so many strangers wouldn't have any idea how many they get

Shock horror............another day, another "The Star is wank and biased" thread.

I hate the fucking rag (used to work there) but do we have to go on about it every fucking day repeating the same examples of bias?

Do people really give that much of a shit.......if you don't like it, don't read it!

Yes they do, as evidenced by the response, and I'm not talking about on here.

If you don't think it's a problem for the local media to show contempt for and alienate a large section of the citys population, that's your perogative, but I assure you than many will, and hopefully enough to give that disgusting publication that nudge towards extinction that is long overdue.

Why don't people write or speak with someone at the Star instead of anonymously posting on a message board where they (The Star) have no right of reply.

Personally I think we all have better things to worry about than what some 3rd rate hack writes in a local paper.

Already have.

Samir.... sounds a dodgy name to me, Carruthers is blatantly a red herring. I think the Star would be well within their rights to flag the fact that there is a slight possibility that there may be a link to ISIS in there. Why stop at pissing in a cup at the races, he might be in a sleeper cell!

Do tell me how this alleged anti-United bias works - are potential new recruits asked which team they support and only Wednesdayites selected? Does the editor censor articles to ensure a pro-Wednesday bias? Do they have news meetings every morning discussing ways of putting down United?

Already have.

I doubt you are the first to get in touch with them though and sadly I don't think it will change their approach to what they publish.

They know they are biased and seem intent on being that way. What reaction did they think they were going to get with some of the crap the have published recently? The editor can't be that fucking thick.

The only option is for the club to tell The Star to fuck off.

You know it all boils down to the editor, so don't give us all that twaddle.

Despite what you may think some newspapers and journalists need to be held accountable for the shit they write.

Probably

I know the editor and as far as I know SHE is not a fan of football.
