I'm not one that subscribes to the belief that someone can randomly develop a passion for a club. I think it's something you're either born into or something that you get attached to from an early age. So I always found his supposed undying love for the Blades out of nowhere a little dubious.

Don't get this problem some people have with Phipps. Employed by the prince to look after his "investment". What's wrong with that? Happens to be American. What's wrong with that? He couldn't influence where he was born. He had no idea of how neanderthal some of our fans were when he tried to drag them into the communication age. Made a mistake, but don't we all. Jim seems ok. While I take any claim of deep rooted love of the Blades with a pinch of salt, I believe that he will have developed some sort of affinity with the club and certainly went over and above at times in personal interactions with the fans - even if this was driven by commercial needs rather than anything else, it still needs to be recognised as a positive.

However, as much as he didn't deserve the totally unwarranted stick he got on social media, he should never have put himself in that position and, imo, showed his complete misunderstanding of how football works in the things he said and did out in the open - it was ill advised and was only ever going to end one way. Also, he did have the ability to spout utter bullshit at times as a mouthpiece for our board. 'Not having to sell our players anymore'. 'GCI'. And the two hypocritical statements, 'You can't stop players leaving if they want to go' then, when we couldn't get Dan Burn over the line, 'you can agree things with a player but if their club doesn't want to sell then there is nothing you can do.' He certainly wasn't without flaw and as much as he didn't deserve abuse, I never got those blowing smoke up his arse either.

So yeah, not the worst person to grace our boardroom in the last 20 years (now there is a question. I'd go with the odious fucking cretin Hinchcliffe) . His tenure was a complete failure as was his method of chairmanship of a football club. I wish him well in the future and it is a shame it didn't work, but ultimately I think we are better off without him.
