The new dawn

Not yet. Please let's look at the position in April/May 2017, following a few losses, injuries, sales of key players and bad refereeing decisions.

Seen too many false dawns and bad luck with this club.

There were moments today when I genuinely thought that we have got our Blades back, even though I am not entirely sure what that means. It just feels like the club has turned a corner and not just results wise. The football is better than anything from the previous 2 seasons and we appear to have a different mentality about us.

That is the major worry for me if the cunts upstairs pull the rug from under his feet and sell half the team

Really enjoyed the game today....leave for Asia on Monday so it will be my last game for a year or so.
I am actually feeling quite confident that you will all enjoy a decent season now...and after the Rochdale game I thought we were heading in the other direction.
I hope United can kick on now and we can get into the top two....still early days but keep up your support lads and hopefully we will achieve what we deserve.
cheers.

Things have definitely changed for the better and I'm very confident that we'll at least have an encouraging season. We have a more condensed squad of decent quality but with good depth too. We have players with better attitudes. We have players who will improve. Most importantly, we have a manager who fully understands the club, the fans and the job and knows what he's doing. We might not get promoted but I think it'll be our best league season since 2011/12.

We need promotion this season ... we're above these shitty little teams that we are forced to play... fuck Peterborough, fuck Scunthorpe, fuck mk dons, fuck them all we're Sheffield United

We did win 4 in a row under Adkins early last season so i'm not getting carried away but there does seem to be a dramatic change in attitude and commitment from last season to this. I think today we showed that we still lack quality in many areas but we got the win through sheer determination. The only time I can recall us doing that in the past 4 or 5 seasons is in the cup games under Clough. Reminds me a lot of a Warnock team at the moment. Not necessarily in style of play but in the fact that they do seem to put everything into the games

At Gillingham EEL chucked himself in front of a shot after Moore had dropped a ross and I remember thinking that I hadn't seen that in a while. Today sounds like more of the same and I really do think that a team ethic of desperately wanting to win has been missing. Would be great to think that Wilder could bring that to the club

It's the Blades way !

Said it b4. Back to back defeats will have him in the doghouse again !

Fickle ;)

UTB
Got to be really careful with what you mean by fickle. Dictionary definition is as follows "likely to change your opinion or your feelings suddenly and without a good reason".

In my experience what actually happens on forums like this is that when the team does well, the positive types come out to play, the guys in the middle recognise the good performance and the negatives stay off the site. come a defeat the positives have a beer and stay away, the guys in the middle voice reasonable concerns and the naysayers fill their boots. No one has actually been fickle (not many anyway) but the mood has gone sour.

I'm .....

Warming to him.
Probably the right approach. I've told myself to ignore the league table till we've played 15 games. Normally I say 10 but when you have sold 22 and bought 12 new players it takes a b it more time

Ide like to think so but im frightened to admit it yet.

Frightened? Don't be frit Boxer, embrace your fear and tell it to behave itself. I agree it's early days, but I wrote a thread on just the same topic as there's nothing wrong with a little belief. Let's see how things pan out between now and January. My feeling is that we'll be well managed and that Wilder will motivate his team in ways that we'll all appreciate UTB

He's crap, lost first 4 games, bought rubbish players (Hussy, Clarke, Long on new contract), sold youth (Adams/DCL), won last 4 league games........ Oh, 'ang on

What I've liked is that he wasn't afraid to make substantial changes to correct for his initial errors. The turnaround has included:
  • Changing the formation to one that wasn't used much at all in pre-season
  • Ditching both full-backs, who had previously suggested were the best in the league
  • Ditching the idea of playing Done on the wing, something which at the Fans Forum he said he wouldn't be doing in the first place
  • Giving key roles to two transfer listed players
  • Accepting we needed a better first team keeper
  • Accepting that O'Connell, while promising, can't marshal the defence by himself
He has very quickly turned it about, and that has meant having to admit that some things haven't panned out as he had intended and needed rectifying quickly. I can think of individual instances where past managers have done this, but it feels rare to see that happen to such an extent.

Credit to him for doing that so decisively – and long may it continue.
