SwissBlade I genuinely think this is part of the problem. Blade56 posted elsewhere about United having 'missed the bus' in relation to modern football, and I agree with him - we have, and yet some - most? - of our fan base haven't caught on to the fact yet. I feel it myself if I'm honest - some foreign randomer in the Premier League is signed by, let's say Crystal Palace, a club that I dare say most Blades fans would consider "smaller" than we are, for 35 million quid, while we're making do with 'undisclosed fees' or, at best, being asked to swallow that an incoming journeyman for £500K is a "big signing".

There's a rational reaction to this, but there's also an emotional response - and I can understand why people might think "Big signing? Bollocks." All contributes to the growing frustration.

Absolutely agree, we missed the boat when we got relegated from the PL, but then the panic to try and get back up there with big managerial mistakes has just resulted in a downward spiral.

But like I said, we have to look forwards. We have two owners that do have a few quid, but in comparison to the Leicesters and Crystal Palaces of this world, we can't compete financially.

So what can we do? Well we can continue to look at models like Southampton, Hull, Palace and Leicester, but we'd be just as well focusing on building a base at the club in our own style.

Wilder might not be everyone's cup of tea from a footballing perspective (its still too early for me), however he does know what the club needs and whilst he's here we need to get back to that focus.

I'd love to agree Swizzler but I fear the local train station, the telephone box and newspaper are no longer viable to meet today's needs.
Without our owners investing seriously or selling to someone who will I fear we are doomed to roam the lower leagues.
Today's football is IMO corrupted by money and filled with money grabbing loutish players bought and sold by wealthy people with nothing better to spend on.
But, they bought the game, demolished the station and phone box and introduced news online. We either go with it or become a small club and give way to our porcine neighbours.
Here's an idea, we could merge :confused:o_O

I don't think its about throwing cash at players, but building a strong side for this division.

For many years, whilst in this division we have bought expensive (wage wise at least) players, many of which have played in the Premier league or Championship, but its not what we need. We need players for this league. If we continue to obsess with throwing money at the problem we won't get any further.

But if this team gets promoted on an average wage of £5-6K/week and have 2-3 years left on their contracts in a league where Wendy are paying £50,000 / week to their players how do we compete? We don't and we come back down to where our current set up deserves.

I think, unlike in previous years where we planned our recruitment about what we need when we got to the championship, we need to worry about that when we get there...

The main thing is getting out of this league, is it not?

Shit or bust ??? Stick or twist ??? Swings and roundabouts ???

Fucked if I know :)

It is

Pigs are paying Fletcher £35,000 a week for three years. They signed him for £0.

It's a cost effective way of buying a striker that would have cost £5.5m.

If he scores goals that will get them promotion, it's a risk worth taking.

Whereas we risk £0 on signing an U18 reserve from Middlesbrough.

65 mill including club & all club property. Believe what you like- I've no reason to lie. Told you all things in the past which u called me this, that n the other which were bang on
Ben, don't bother mate, you give some firm and correct info and people want to jump on it, you can't win pal

At the moment he's very close to presiding over a club that could very well go from the Premiership to the bottom division in 10 years. Whatever he may think that isn't down to bad luck. The only other chairman I can think of in recent times who has been at the helm for such a fall is Karl Oysten. With Oysten you get the feeling it's all about him and the football club comes second. With McCabe it really does seem to be just bad decision after bad decision that has seen us where we are. Nobody can seriously say that to go from the top flight to the bottom one in 10 years is down to anything else other that complete negligence

I realise i'm being hypothetical and jumping the gun here but it's certainly not absurd that we could go down. Has any chairman in history avoided protest like McCabe has whilst being in charge of a club that has sank so low so fast?
At least Blackpool fans have kicked off, we just sit there taking this shit, our fans are sleepwalking into the obiss

Whereas I know from KM himself the valuation he's put on the club isnt even half of the 65 million quoted .

Get a grip kidda !

Kicking off !!!! What's tha think we've been doing at away matches up and darn country slinging ar ale all ovver ' t ' place .

** I must confess that I haven't been one of the ale throwers cos I love KM

The main thing seems to be to spend as little as possible and then hope / luck / magic beans

Ok so what is the magic figure to spend? How much have we spent this summer?

I appreciate that it will never be enough unless we get promoted.

But if we spend, say GBP 5 Million on a squad overhaul (including paying players off) would you say that is realistically enough? or perhaps GBP 10M?

I don't think getting hung up on fees, costs wages and transfer budgets is where we should be concerning ourselves (incidentally this is what McCabe often Quotes to cover himself).

Its a cliche but we need to get the right players in for that manager and that team. This hasn't been the case in the past.

Wilder is certainly being allowed to build his team and perhaps to the detriment of the side right now, he is clearing out the players he doesn't want/ can get fees for/ release from the wage bill. Personally i think he's in danger of overhauling too much, too fast that it could back fire on him in the short term. But i do have to admire that he's not fucked about in getting rid. Its bringing players in that we've slowed down on.

McCabe = bullshit. he wants 64/65m fact. he values the hotel at over 10m alone which is 7m over priced as it based on rooms filled per year rather than the building itself. Anyhow, after 10 years of decline, another 10 years under Kev wont hurt, I'm looking forward to the 4th division, best season of my life watching us. then the conference league and eventually the Blades super draw league

Complete bullshit .

Yep - we need better quality players, hate to say it but we definitely need to buy our way out.

Incidentally, most other fans of clubs in this division will say that we spend enough already. Where is the end product then if that's the case?

Buying your way out after 5 years seems a bit daft, why didnt we do it in year 1

He wont, we are gonna need 2 bags of Magic Beans
