British Oak ?? that's my favourite pub, on a par with the Dev Cat.

The stout I ordered in there the other night was off... left most of a pint in order to run for an Uber (which I understand are like rocking horse shit in that neck of the woods).

Strange pub the British Oak. The quality varies wildly (food and beer). One visit you can get one of the best pie/pint deals you've ever had (for the price), visit two days later and the beer tastes funny and the food is burnt. We tend not to go there as a family to eat anymore, they really seem to struggle if you order more than a couple of meals at one time.

I believe I'm right in saying it's the same group (and virtually the same pub) as The York, The Broadfield and the Old House? (pop on one and then any of the others and you'll see the same range of beers, same deals, same menus, and weirdly, the same inconsistency in standards!).

Yes, it is really difficult to get Uber anywhere outside the city in my experience. I found the way to do it is to pull the map as close to the city as possible until it changes to the "order Uber" icon (effectively half way between your current location and the city centre), order it to that location, wait till he gets there and then order it again to your current location (at least when I had free credit, not suggesting I'd do with it real money!)

I don't know what they were brewing on Tuesday but it smelt very malty as I was walking past.

Yes.

We went to a brainstorming about their matchday offer but will have to check with Foxy to see if this is for public consumption yet.

Quite expensive for the beer... when you think it's hardly in an ale desert in Sheffield. Make sure you ask for a loyalty card when you go in which gets you 10% off.

I agree regarding the food - we started to go for the pie night and it all started great until we had a couple of meals that weren't up to standard, and now we don't bother.
Not really had a bad pint at all, had the occasional one that lost it's condition shortly after being poured, but i've found that in general with real ales.......

I was in the Sentinel last night. Very quiet but good beer. Should be pub of choice when there is a big away following arriving by train.

Damn, wish I'd read this before we ate there post-match yesterday, that would have saved a few bob off the bill for a meal for four with drinks.....

It's an odd place, just a converted industrial unit, very minimalist, no frills, with a big selection of beers and what looked like a fair range of wines. The food's a bit quirky, but enjoyable and attentive service. We'd go again, having first obtained a loyalty card.....

Had a tour round Sentinel a few weeks ago. Tried a few beers and they were very nice. There were several hundred people at the event (a Business Sheffield thing), it was rammed and the beer was free flowing all night. T'was a good night.

My experience of going in on match day has been rather bad, twice been told the first two beers I picked (yesterday the Pivo and the Kolsch) had sold out, in a near empty building, another time 3 or 4 members of staff were in the building and seemed to be having a competition to see who could ignore the waiting customers at the bar the longest. We left without ordering on each occasion. I'd probably not go out of my way to go there again. Also really not sure the place needs bouncers. My general philosophy is that if somewhere needs bouncers, it's probably not somewhere I want to drink.

As a brewery, very nice, but in my experience, it just doesn't work as a pub. If you're spending a fiver a pint, you expect a premium service.
