Prematch imbibing

I think the issue is that most people have their own set routines - between us on here, as evidenced by this thread, we probably cover all of the usual pre-match haunts.

If anyone ever wants to pop and say hello to myself, Foxy, silverfox, dingledog, Angef1Blade, Mousey, The One etc. you can find us in the Golden Lion.

If you want to meet up, look out in the social section - there's forum football on Sunday mornings, real ale trips, meet ups at away games and Foxy is trying to get a Footgolf sorted before the weather turns.
Exactly Linz. And many of us go with family and friends. I doubt I could persuade many of my mates to change their routine to accommodate me meeting up with some people I only 'know' from a message board.

Met a few before. Foxy and Linz mostly. They drink with many off here as stated above.

Golden Lion is probably my most frequented pub. Was a Farm Road regular from 2004 ish until last 2 seasons. Go in Cremorne now and then, usually on Tuesday games as they have Pizza and Pint specials on.

How about those on here who don't drink.
What do you do on a match day?

Is there a direct link between football and drinking as a culture?

Can you refrain from alcohol on a matchday, pre/post kick off?

Smack can take the edge off the 90 mins of self imposed misery but since it went all seater people in adjacent seats don't like you laying down all over them.

And if you have enough Charlie to imagine that Currie , Woodward , Edwards & Deane are all playing , the downer at full-time is awful.

There is a blood level of E at which you love everyone , including Dean Hammond , but I doubt it's safe.

So as long as you're a happy drunk (not an angry violent drunk) the Blades can best be appreciated in a state which my lawyer would call "merry".

And you know how things can look better with your beer-goggles on !

A pint and three quarters. Everything is always great when you're just getting to the bottom of your second.

Or so much weed you think you're watching it on TV until you go for the remote to turn over and realise you're grabbing your mate's leg.

I think the Rutland has gone right down hill recently. Andy has left to open up other pubs, leaving the Rutland in the hands of others (last I heard he was at the Three Tuns, but has moved on again since then).

A couple of times I've been in early evening (very recently) and the place was near empty, yet almost every table was covered with used pint pots and dirty plates. Have to be honest, I thought it was a disgrace, especially as the bar staff were just stood around chatting (with other bar staff). It really isn't good to leave stuff lying around like that for hours on end in warm weather!

They also seem very raw, I got a pint of ale that looked as flat as a pint of cider normally would, and saw them giving others the same. Love the Rutland, and used to try and pop in whenever I'm in town, but have started giving the place a wide-berth recently. Hopefully it will improve!

Was Andy the Southampton fan or the ...err... 1970's employment handbook guy?

I used to go in the Cremone. Less so since they got rid of Stancill Pilsner. They still do amazing Pizza though (or did last season).

This thread reminds me to ask, how come you were drinking in my neck of the woods t'other night? Foxy

British Oak ?? that's my favourite pub, on a par with the Dev Cat.

The stout I ordered in there the other night was off... left most of a pint in order to run for an Uber (which I understand are like rocking horse shit in that neck of the woods).

Pretty rare - it's usually excellent. I love the whole "vibe" of the place, but then again i'm usually in on an obscure night of the week due to shifts.
