Bolton boycott

See, you keep saying this as though hitting 86 grounds over the last fifteen years, barely missing a match means I have been doing something else?

I support my team, but I cannot and will not support this extortion that football fans are being subjected to.

Foxy will be going to Bolton in the name of match updates. I shall be tweeting from Dronfield instead.

If anyone is wishing to protest, the Football Supporters' Federation have said they will support any action their affiliates (of which this forum is one) want to organise.

First of all Linz I am not questioning anyone's support and loyalty. I just think that if boycotts and protests are going to take place they need to be effective and make a difference - sadly I don't think that even 1000 less fans that would normally go to this fixture will do that and that there must be other ways to get the point across, like the Prem supporters have managed to do, and I don't think they boycotted games to get that result, although I stand corrected if they did. Where do fans draw the line at ticket prices? How much is too much? If this was priced at £25 would people be talking about boycotting? Away days are expensive generally due to travel etc and not always down to ticket costs.

Everyone has a choice and I'm not having a go at those sticking to their principles but I just feel that right now the team needs us to help with the rebuild and new era under CW and what an opportunity with such a large ticket allocation and the first game of the season.

As someone else has said - are we going to boycott the return fixture, when the "on the day" price at BDTBL will be £29 for away fans?

Category nonsense.

Joke.

Supporters are the life and soul, it's time supporters everywhere stood and sat as one and declared

"NO MORE"

£30 this season, £40 next... it'll happen and then they'll still be folks happy to pay whatever they decide to charge..

And so it will increase......

Aye, back in my day you could go to t' match, gerra ticket, 6 pints o' Wards, a tripe and cow 'eel sandwich, a portion o' chips, and still have change aht urra ten bob nooert to buy a new cap.

I absolutely agree twenty is plenty - but for how long? Example: day tickets for Friday at Leeds Festival are £66 and you might get 90 minutes of decent music if you're lucky, judging by the line-up, and the beer's dear, and it's fizzy piss, and the food's shite, and it's even more of a rip-off than at the football, and it takes feckin ages to get out, and they'll sell all the tickets. I went to Reading in 1980 for £33 which covered entrance and camping for all 3 days and we thought it was way too much. They sold all the tickets.

£20 for L1 is definitely plenty but clubs like Bolton who have been in the PL more recently than us but have just been taken over and need the brass are always going to try it on.

I still say the overall matchday cost remains way lower than a lot of the games a lot of us will happily go to throughout the season and so, as it's game 1 of the new era, and it's an easy trip, I'm there.

Can we smash the fucking ground up ? Not that I would

Will it though? I thought it was the same price as the BL/south corner, which is barely more expensive than the Kop

Why? It's four years since they were in the Premier League.

Category A games for away fans £27, and the "on the day" price carries a £2 premium I think mate

Why? It's four years since they were in the Premier League.

What I mean is, they still have high opinions of themselves, a bit like we did when we'd only had 4 years outside the PL (!), and also, post-takeover they're desperate to fleece the fans to get some cash in the coffers.

While I agree they'd make more money charging £20 and getting people in to buy fizzy piss and cow arse on bread, you have to bear in mind they have a footballer on the Board who probably doesn't have the capacity to think things through like that

I actually looked it up after I posted and the 27 is after the "idiot that doesn't buy in advance" surcharge

What's a bigger problem for them is that they signed players to get them back into the PL, on big contracts, with the parachute payments that have now run out.
Bolton have always lacked class (in modern times), they were the ones always moaning that PL clubs shouldn't get relegated.

and we can buy in advance for 28

so the difference between our base £25 and their base £28 is worth getting on our high horse about?

if you think 30 quids bad think of the poor villa fans who are getting ripped for 49 quid at the piggery. and its on telly. not only that cat 1 games at the lane arnt that mutch cheaper , so shut up moaning and get to Bolton and help get our blades off to a flying start

Wow, can't argue with that perfect logic....

So what is your limit? Is £35 ok? £50? £3456?
It's the 3rd division FFS!
These cunts wanted to abolish relegation from the Premiership when they thought they were well established in it.
They have spunked money on average players that have got them relegated twice and are now fleecing fans to claw some back.
They can take yours, they are not having mine.

How many on about "shut up moaning" have done pretty every away match for the last decade?

Yeah, you probably don't mind so much as a one-off and by all means, knock yourself out, but when you want to go to every match, you start to think that you don't want to pay £30+ every other week.

I ask all the first-match-of-the-season-daytrippers to spare a thought.

I'm caught in two minds - I agree wholeheartedly with the argument that £30 is ridiculous for League 1 football but I was so looking forward to this one when it was first announced. With the optimism of the opening day and/or Wilder's appointment, I sincerely hoped we'd take anywhere between 3000 and 5000 but that looks to be on the rocks now with the pricing. It's a massive shame because this was our chance to get over there, roar our team on and show them that we were back right behind them which I think is massively needed for the players staying with us from the ill-fated Clough and Adkins regimes. Hope some common sense prevails but it isn't looking likely.

That's fine, and I 100% agree, but if the figures are right it seems they are only charging us £3 more than we will probably charge them.
I bet we had one of the highest away prices last season. As I say I really don't know, so this based on that!

I'm fully behind the £20 is plenty campaign and fans rights. Our away games probably count as the top category for most teams at present, but even so I still went to a number of away games with my lad where there were family deals of extremely cheap tickets for juniors.
One of the few benefits of this league are the ticket prices, which I agree are still way to high for 3rd tier football, but we probably ought to try and get £20 is plenty at Bramall Lane before we complain too much about others. The prices charged higher up the leagues are extortionate. I would actually argue that £20 is too much for our division. Hopefully our club can take a lead on this. That would be nice to see.

So... For us that have tried to appeal to the management at Bramall Lane for fair away ticket prices in the past, do you think we are justified to complain?

Don't get me wrong Linz, I am 100% behind what you are saying, fully justified to complain and I know you care about prices at all grounds, including BDTBL and will have brought this up with the club.

I also know you attend far more away matches than I do so it affects you more.
Nowadays I attend fewer than 10 away games a season for various reasons, usually other commitments, and always with my lad who loves them (with the exception of Port Vale) and it is usually a brilliant day assuming the team at least tried. It used to be me and a load of mates, but times change!

I was going to go to Bolton and looking forward to it, but seeing this thread I am now thinking twice and very unsure if I want to or want to show my support to the campaign.
My nagging issue is that I feel uncomfortable complaining too much about Bolton prices if they really are about the price of pint more than we will charge them.

I will fully support any campaign about lowering ticket prices overall, and it probably does affect our regular away fans more than most in this division.
I would love a fair pricing policy across all divisions. Many fans are being priced out.

One of the good things our club does is the cheap season tickets for juniors. Many clubs higher up don't care about this, it's all about now.
At least we have a generation who are attending and hopefully will do so in the future.

Do you really think that this is about first match of the season day trippers - really?? Those guys are the play off final/cup semi trippers, not league games. If you want to go to every away match this season that's very admirable, but there is no way that any other club will be charging the same ticket price as Bolton (apart from us!) so it will be the same as every other season in this shitty league, so go away to the likes of Gillingham, Southend, Bristol etc and pay a tenner less for your ticket and treble the travel costs. I saw an earlier post of yours suggesting that SUFC put on cheaper/subsidised travel as it might encourage more to get to the Bolton game but surely that completely goes against your reasons for boycotting the match? Isn't the reason behind the boycott to stop Bolton getting their £30 or £28 ticket price? So let's get people there for nowt and Bolton still get their prices....and in the meantime it's cost our club money to lay on transport!

As I've said before, yes £30 is too much but it is a one off and won't be repeated by any other club in our league this season. Protest in other ways like petitions to the league, banners up at every match including at BDTBL, whatever it takes, but boycotting this match will make fuck all difference because there are probably more that want to go than those that don't.
