To merge two threads, I'd swap Che for him.
Not a straight swap, I wouldn't mind some change too, but player wise I think we need a player like this lad more.

If the reported fee for DCL is true hopefully this lad would be of serious interest.

Only guess, but I reckon the DCL fee has already gone on the current supposed 3 bids we have in

McFadz?
Clarke?
Pope?
?

I say both Clarke and Pope because if DCL is going then we might need to replace him as well as add a target man

Looks ok, won't be a huge fee.
And won't cure our lack of goals from midfield.

However, there will be a fee so it means we are likely to lose out to someone else, probably from the league above.

What's really f in gutting is that a Mickey Mouse team from a Mickey Mouse town that averages under 10k can sign these type of players and we seemingly can't !

Probably could, but the attraction is the Championship being one step away from the holy grail of the Premiership.

Oh FFS.

That's a bad one.

At least it probably means he didn't cost a pittance. But surely he's one we should be able to afford and justify.

Snowman do you really think Burton in the championship are a bigger draw than us a division lower cus I don't ? Fleck and O'Connell both turned down championship interest but one was free and the other probably very cheap hence we got them

Confirmed gone to burton

No. I think the Championship is the bigger draw which I think is exactly what I said?

So who expressed interest and made offers for Fleck and O'Connell from the Championship and why did Fleck and O'Connell turn them down?

Were we actually in for him or was it just a rumour?

I dont know who but both Wilder and the players are quoted as saying there was interest from the championship. My point is we signed them as they were free or cheap, Burton got Macfadzean and this guy cus they were prepared to pay the price not cus Burton are in the championship

Possibly. But I don't get the logic. If Championship clubs were interested, surely they too would have been interested in getting a free and cheapy thus adding a worthwhile player and leaving funds for another addition?

The thing is, if they were any good or what we needed for the next level then why did they join Burton. Surely other teams would have been interested? Rotherham have more money so you thought Stubbs would have been all in for Irvine for example.

McFadzean and now Irvine. Clough making decent looking signings makes me wonder just how he managed to fuck it up so badly whilst he was here. Was it deliberate?

This board creates obsessions with certain players. Like Tafazoulli all over again!

How many times have you seen Irivine play? People will claim to see him all the time etc, but I don't remember seeing Ross County on Sky sports recently? Same with Tafazoulli. People will claim there work mate is a Mansfield town fan and they've been to 6 games this season etc. Which for us that work no this doesn't happen.

It's a difficult task at Burton to get players to join them even now in championship. Funds are limited and the better championship players will go to better clubs the circle of life.

Spot on! The obsession with Irvine seems to be based around 1 youtube video of him having a decent game against Celtic. Maybe that should be our new scouting policy? Find a player on youtube, without actually bidding for him we can instead fantasise about how he could rip league 1 a new anus, then start crying when said player signs for someone else.

Fairly sure CW has his own targets lined up here.

We were linked with him though. He's not just a 'forum target'. He also fits the mould of what Wilder wants in a midfielder.

Hopefully the new scout can find similar players. The hope that he can reduces any disappointment when missing out on players like this. He did well for Chesterfield so there's a chance we could start actually getting value.

By Clough? Doubt it. I think there's another more likely reason.

I understand what you're both saying, but...
I'm sure there's not only myself on here who take a great interest in football, north of the border.

More to the interest than Youtube and basic tv highlights...

So which elements of Wilders ideal m/f template does he fit?
Certainly not netting
As I said afore v similar to Basham - 'busy' & 'energetic' ; not especially creative & whilst he 'puts a foot in' certainly not an ' hard man' / 'enforcer' type
