OK. I'll get ready for the abuse but actually I don't blame him or even Adkins.

When we were negotiating to bring him here, he was welcomed by virtually all and sundry (queue the "I always said he was crap" replies).

IF he had come in, bossed the midfield, and done the job we thought he was going to, then all and sundry would have been chastised for not putting him on an option for a contract when he signed on loan. I actually said at the time he needed a box-to-box midfielder next to him but we never actually signed one and did not have one on the books.

From the player viewpoint, every single one of you would have taken the security blanket given his age and package on offer.

It is a double edged sword. A gamble. This one has not come off, but so would have the criticism if it had been the other way round. I, for one minute, do not blame him for taking the option knowing he had one year security. I defy any single one of you would not have done the same.

A gamble , all eggs in one basket or desperation I do not know which . Whatever , Adkins gets paid to make the correct decisions and mitigate risk on player recruitment . Truth be known he was blinkered and blinded by past glory with Hammond , who due to the apparent lack of professionalism , discipline of certain players within the squad , was brought in to assist on the playing side both on and off the field.

It failed .

The Hammond taking the option on his contract , let's see what the fella is really made of . It will be interesting and add a little spice if ever selected , or will he just be the water energy drinks / orange man / sweet tea man at half time ..

Thank fuck for Wilder .

On the one hand, you've got the "naive" types (the Hammond haters).

On the other, you've got the "cynical" types (the Hammond sympathisers - footballers are just in it for the money).

We're all of us open to be judged on this, one way or another.

But those who justify Hammond's actions as him acting solely in his financial best interests aren't really able then to criticise players more generally for a lack of heart & desire. Why should they bother putting a shift in? They're merely calculating creatures seeking the optimum pay award. The only "heart" they display is geared towards getting the next contract.

Personally, I'm happy to be "naive" & to expect much, much more. It's football we're talking about here, not banking.

Fortunately though, Chris Wilder doesn't seem the type to accept players simply going through the motions.

HH the new WHF. Say no more .:D

I'm just glad Daddy Dean will be able to feed his kids for another year.

I wonder if "Hammond" is the reason our transfer budget seems to have changed a bit this week ? i.e. paying him off now means we have to sell before recruiting. Hope i'm wrong.........

McCabe said that paying off some players was very likely.....And Hammond was top of that list.

As he (and his feckin parasite agent probably!) was having a well earned rest in the height of luxury no doubt, we had to wait until it was convenient to HIM for us to negotiate his release.
And rest assured we will be having to pay him almost all of the contract he's received, or he will just take the wages and train wherever he has to. His lack of respect on the last day of the season should prove that will be his stance to everybody.

He has no morals....no interest in our club, and therefore no problem taking that stance. He will be well shielded from any hassle we could possibly give him, and he doesn't even live near the city either.

Diego gone the same way.....one or two more will be going too. If I was a betting man I would suggest the sale of our probably only real asset will pay for these pay offs....in other words Adams. We might get £1.5 to £2 mil for him.
