Can't get the hang of this copy and paste lark. Anyway we are 6/1 favourites. With millwall and Bradford next at 11/1, this according to Stan James,to win it outright.

Our own mugs, or other mug supporters. Because I don't know that many blades that would back us to win it.

A lot of it goes on bets already placed, it's calculated by the percentage and forecast from that. Just means a few blades have already bet were going to be up there, hence the speed horses odds change in the build up to races, the only difference is, in football, if your named favourites to start off, it sticks, and thus makes you look like failures. Funny old game.

Thank fuck for that, I thought we were failures but now I know it's just the bookies. Bastards.

There are only United fans that don't buy the favorite tag. Fans of other clubs think every season surely this will be the season a big club like Sheffield United gets out of bastarding league one.

Can understand us being up there, but favourites ? Based on what.

Based on, in no particular order: the amount of cash they reckon will be wagered on us; professional laziness (their's); cliché; tradition; basic lack of knowledge about what is happening at our club--so far as I can work out, we currently have about as many viable first team players as Blackpool did, the close season they could barely fill a pitch, let alone a bench.

It would be feckin' ace if they are right. I would love it, just love it, etc. But, honestly, what utter nonsense.

There is more chance of Benny off Crossroads becoming Prime Minister than us winning the league.

Well he did make it to Chancellor...here he is with Noele Gordon...

We have a manager who last season assembled a team that won League 2, while working on a budget that was a fraction on what he will have available to him next season. If you think we are in a bad way, look at the situation at Northampton going into last season, however with shrewd recruitment and first class man management skills, CW turned them into Champions of the division.

We already have several players such as Sharp, Brayford, Basham and Adams, amongst others that would walk get into any other team in the division with ease, as well as the new lads CW has already brought in.
Yes, we only finished eleventh last season, however we had a totally useless idiot of a manager in charge, who clearly lost the dressing room. Having a straight talking manager with fresh ideas in charge, will give the players a real boost. No longer will they have to listen to Adkins endless waffle. I expect the likes of Brayford to be a totally different player this season. The players that CW has brought back into the fold will also be like new signings, as they will be boosted by being wanted by CW, after Adkins discarded them.
CW has said that we are signing the centre backs and other players in the positions we need and I have no reason to disbelieve him.

I for one can clearly see why the bookies are making us favourites. We have a manager who won the league he was managing in last season, who has evidenced that he can do so while working on a tight budget. He already has a core of excellent players, which he has stated that he will be adding to. He has in the past displayed excellent skills with regard to recruiting value for money players. The bookies will not be panicking because CW has not signed all the new players he requires, before the middle of June. They will take the view that CW is being astute by waiting to get the players he really wants.
I for one will be getting some of my hard earned money on the Blades to do a Northampton next season.

The bookies won't think about things anywhere near as much as you seem to think they will. Wilder being our manager will barely be a factor with them. We were even 2nd favourites after Wolves when David Weir was appointed. The only factor with them is the name 'Sheffield United' and any money being put on us. The League One outright market is small fry for them anyway, they can afford to be negligent.

In any case, this is a totally different job to Northampton and it's extremely naive to assume he'll get the same value for money and so on at this club.

Who make up this 'core of excellent players' we have? I'd say we have one very good L1 player (Sharp) and about three decent ones, and not many of those are spine players. We have to sign all of those. We generally don't have players you 'build around' to get promoted. The ones we have are the types to add to a strong core - which we don't have yet.

If you are intent on putting some of your hard earned money on us to win the league then I'd advise you not to go near the current odds. They're ridiculously short. Wait until a few games into the season. I can guarantee you the odds will be much bigger at some point, even briefly. Trust me on that.

The bookies work out odds at this point in pre-seaon based on their potential liabilities not on which sides stand most chance of winning the league or gaining promotion. The clubs with most supporters will, as far as they know, be most likely to have most money wagered on them and hence will be the biggest risk. That is the reason why we are always 'favourites' whilst we are in the lower leagues. The odds are unlikely to become realistic until several weeks into the season.

They don't know how clueless our Board are though, so we can forgive them their stupidity ......

Anyone who thinks we've no chance of winning it has the opportunity to put their money where their mouth is.

Betfair Exchange gives you the opportunity to act as a bookie and take bets from people wanting to back United to win League One. At the moment, there is £83.10 waiting to back United at a variety of odds between just over 6/1 and just under 9/1. If you are so minded you could take those bets by committing the sum of £576.31. Effectively, this would work out at a composite price of just under 7/1.

If, at the end of the season, we're anything other than champions then you get your £576.31 back plus the £83.10, your winnings, minus a commission of 5% (£4.15). But if we end up in the top spot, you've done your £576.31.

Very true shala and very likely to win but most won't want to risk 7X their money and you have effectively 'locked it up' until May unless you close it out in the meantime and pay the spread.

Best time to use betfair is as a hedge against us disappointing. I made a packet the year Wednesday pipped us by laying us for promotion at long odds on. Ie if we went up I was very happy, if we didn't I made money but that was at very short odds, 7s is a bit big no matter how unlikely !

Every single season in this league, laying United for the title has been incredible value and very easy money. The odds usually at least double by the end of August, certainly September when we're already miles off the pace, and you can back off your liability whilst barely reducing your potential profit.

It's the only positive to never signing good players, waiting for all the good ones to go to rivals, always selling your best player as close to the start of the season as possible, never even trying to replace them, always having the wrong manager, having no real ambition and no urgency, 'we've still got the loan window', 'we'll wait until January', and not paying out any win or even promotion bonuses.
