His unseen work really will be unseen now.. Gotta feel sympathy for Wilder in this case but at least he's straight up no beating about the bush by doing what he's done...fans very much on side right away
 
No mention of Dean Hammond going on the Leicester City fans forum. You would have thought that they wouldn't have much to talk about.
 
I am afraid that anyone advising Hammond would tell him to exercise his option and then sit back and wait for the club to pay him off. I have never heard of players being given an option like this before. It is usually the club that has the option. The fact he was given one is crass stupidity by the club. Although it must have been Adkins that negotiated this surely the club must have sanctioned it. How stupid can you get when no one knew how it would work out and what division we would be playing in next season. I think the club were equally stupid (that ex Chelea man whose name I have forgotten) when in the Championship they did not put terms in the contracts that if we got relegated the wages would be reduced as no one ever contemplated relegation. A symptom of how badly we have been run and why we are in such a sorry state.
 
Gotta love Sheffield United as the Hammond debacle really cheered me up this evening. Only us could have a player who is so disliked by fans where biggest cheer of the game is when he's subbed off. & then he stupidly/deludedly activates his permanent contract option only to be immediately transfer listed. Which surely must be a record :)

He's also got to live with the fact that his old club as they got successful dumped him, the only gig he then got was off his tosser of a mate and the first thing a successful manager who had just amassed 99 points did was dump him.

Well paid yes but now a loser.
 
As above. Pissed off and just can't believe the nads on this guy. But seriously, this sums up everything wrong with Sheffield United.

Most of us on here could probably name half a dozen hungry, young , decent, talented players (admittedly without concessus) who could do a job for us, who would give a kidney for the chance to play for a club of our stature and would likely run through walls for the opportunity.

The reason we aren't signing players of that ilk is because short-sighted Kev would rather pay some over-the-hill has-been £10k a week with a year option than stump up a transfer fee (or would rather offer a future England international away in a package deal for a few quid extra on a completely unrelated transfer, or sign a contract with another future England international and allow him to dictate a £2 million minimum release clause, or flog the best player at the club because he fancies building sandcastles, or .....).

So sick of this shit :(
 
Yes the club and Adkins have to take the blame for this stupidity, but it really is poor from Hammond as well.

To sum up...

He knows he's past it.
He knows he's not wanted and even seriously disliked by the fans.
He knows he's a drain on the club.
He knows Adkins is the one and only reason he's here - and he's been sacked.
He knows the new manager doesn't want him.
He knows the owner doesn't want him.
He has more than enough money already - not least from the 18k p/w contract he should never have got from Leicester.
He would've got a contract elsewhere - still has a decent reputation.
He clearly has no professional pride whatsoever.
He didn't even have the decency to stick around after the Scunthorpe game for the lap and awards dinner despite intending to take the contract.

He should be embarrassed. Hope he's ready for all the abuse he's going to get.
 



OK. I'll get ready for the abuse but actually I don't blame him or even Adkins.

When we were negotiating to bring him here, he was welcomed by virtually all and sundry (queue the "I always said he was crap" replies).

IF he had come in, bossed the midfield, and done the job we thought he was going to, then all and sundry would have been chastised for not putting him on an option for a contract when he signed on loan. I actually said at the time he needed a box-to-box midfielder next to him but we never actually signed one and did not have one on the books.

From the player viewpoint, every single one of you would have taken the security blanket given his age and package on offer.

It is a double edged sword. A gamble. This one has not come off, but so would have the criticism if it had been the other way round. I, for one minute, do not blame him for taking the option knowing he had one year security. I defy any single one of you would not have done the same.

I don't blame Hammond. You get the best deal you can get. If you are negotiating with incompetents - as Hammonds agent was - all the better for you.

But there was no reason to offer the option of another year. None whatsoever. That's negligent in the extreme.

If that's what it took - we should have looked at other targets.
 
If the club asks him to fulfill certain obligations, such as attending all first team fixtures, and other such duties, maybe we can then get to the position where we can sack him for failing to carry out a reasonable request? That's what we need to be aiming at.

On the one hand, you've got the "naive" types (the Hammond haters).

On the other, you've got the "cynical" types (the Hammond sympathisers - footballers are just in it for the money).

We're all of us open to be judged on this, one way or another.

But those who justify Hammond's actions as him acting solely in his financial best interests aren't really able then to criticise players more generally for a lack of heart & desire. Why should they bother putting a shift in? They're merely calculating creatures seeking the optimum pay award. The only "heart" they display is geared towards getting the next contract.

Personally, I'm happy to be "naive" & to expect much, much more. It's football we're talking about here, not banking.

Fortunately though, Chris Wilder doesn't seem the type to accept players simply going through the motions.

If you're reading this Hammond or if any one wants to defend him it's irrelevant what we post on here, your peer group have judged you and you are shite.
 
He is a rich man anyway. A typical rich man wanting MORE AND MORE.
Even that sort of money dosen't buy you dignity, pride and self respect.
There is no way I would wish to be anywhere that I am almost universally unwanted.
