A- Flynn has been fucked off
B- why can't we start again from scratch, Bassett did in 88 and more recently Charlton did

OK it's a different matter offering Flynn a new contract but I'd find him a place on reduced wages with incentives added. Maybe it could still happen if we get rid of a few of the others quickly ( some hopes!!).

The scale of this clear-out is unprecedented for our club if not any club, who knows.

Fact is we are left with only a handful of players who are on contract and not transfer listed thereby knowing they wanted, all the others know they're not wanted.

Of those retained and not listed, maybe one or two will leave for other pastures, who knows? For example our apparently complete strike force of Sharp, Done, Adams and McNulty doesn't have enough pace or height in it. Calvert-Lewin will add a bit while he develops but for the start of the season we need pace. In the short term a loanee will be needed but that means strikers 4 and 5 and Lewin struggle to get game time of any sort.

Could Burton persuade us to sell Brayford cut price and pay some of his wages? What a mess he has been.

Of the transfer listed players one or two will step up to the challenge and want a bit of what is going on at Bramall Lane. I hope K.Wallace does and I hope Flynn can ( he's honest and can play full back as well as any midfield role). I definitely think we need at least a couple to step up because the numbers of new signings we need is frightening and any who can provide a bit of continuity will help things. Freeman could just about do it too, still think he would be a good wing back..

All well and good saying it's a great opportunity to set new standards and instill a new culture, which it is, but it just is not possible to integrate so many players all at once and win games regularly; each player has his own challenge to settle into a new club, probably bigger crowds than he is used to, settle into a new city, new team, new way of playing, get to know his colleagues etc. Not possible? Well Leicester won the Prem so I suppose everything is possible and it can come together straight away, but the odds are substantially against I'd say.

A couple of weeks ago I said Wilder has a 2 year challenge to turn us around and that he can't do it in one season. Having seen the retained list I am even more certain it will take most of next season to develop team patterns and consistency.

Flynn's been released, sorry to say. He wasn't a world beater but I am disappointed he's gone. Maybe it was his injury record. Getting rid of so many players will mean as you say it will be difficult to blend a new promotion winning team together. I'd be surprised if Wilder et al pulled that off, but you never know.

As I said, within the boundaries of his contract
Most contracts have a comment around any other reasonable tasks deemed necessary to the business, although I wouldn't know if footballers have such a such a clause inserted, but that doesn't protect the employer from constructive dismissal actions. Constructive dismissal is either unfairly targeting them, or just generally forcing them to leave on their own accord. That doesn't mean asking them to do anything outside of their contract, you can stick to the contract and still be seen to be trying to force them out.
So in your example you could only do what was suggested if everyone else was having to do the same.

Apart from the obvious ones (J. Wallace & Hammond), the retained list is OUTSTANDING!!! It's got rid of all the average joes that have been paid very highly for thier services over the last few seasons and have produced very little in return, including Flynn.

Let Coventry find this out too after giving him a contract and watch his performance dip, especially against the more physical sides in the division.

Woke up today and looked at this list again.

It looks even better today!!

Why anyone would want to offer flynn a new contract beggars belief. He was a part of the losers club here. Get him fucked off. His level is scot championship.

The scale of Wilders job is now plain to see. Hopefully he will have a hit list if targets already drawn up. Some of the U21s may have to step up in the meantime whilst he works on the squad.

Unto DDG. Now under 3 or 4 managers and none have fancied him. Also played under Wilder and he immediately lists him.... Is he trying to put a rocket up his arse or just wants him gone?

Just been talking to my wife about Hammond who I thought was awful in the context of a 'signature signing' and basically 'over the hill' to play in the first team; slow, immobile and doesn't look as though he could ever pass a ball well.

My wife said " we've had worse" which is faint praise but got me thinking whether Wilder will in due course find a role for him in the team seeing as he will be our top earner and we are stuck with him. Personally I always said it wasn't so much Hammond or Coutts who were so pathetic, it was playing them together and indeed with such as Woolford too.

Best solution, Adkins get a job, take him off our hands even if we have to help the transaction along a bit by paying some of his wages ( can't picture Adkins getting a job at a club which can afford the wages he'll be on with us.

If Wilder's playing 4-4-2 Hammond will be out of it completely. With 4-5-1 or 3-5-2 he might sneak into the team, if only to get some sort of value from him.

Not a cat in hells chance of Hammond ever pulling on the shirt again, his bridges have been well and truly burnt.

we bought them so theres plenty of mugs about
come on now someone took Porter and Doyle
I think even the penny is dropping with you that we are a special case. But you can't quite grasp the issue of expensive contracts. Porter and Doyle were free agents.

And in reality, a years worth of hindsight doesn't alter the reality that we didn't know most of them were quite this shite one year ago. Accepted, Adkins would have been better being more ruthless.

But stand back and watch the footballing world judge the players you've defended constantly. It will be Fleetwood and Shrewsburt circling like vultures, not Wolves.

Now please think carefully.... If Wallace was on 2 year contract with one year option then why would we take up the one year option and then transfer list him immediately?? It is highly likely he signed a 3 year contract when he came to us and that your multiple news reports are wrong!

Unless the option could have been taken up by the player himself?

...

It would excellent if Coventry sign him. I consider them as a team with the potential of challenging for the playoffs so buying Flynn would help keep them in mid table mediocrity for years to come.

again heres the up for sale list
the following players have been notified that they have been transfer listed:

Kieron Freeman, Kieran Wallace, James Wallace, Dean Hammond, Paul Coutts, Martyn Woolford and Diego De Girolamo.

theres absolutely no excuses whatsoever why Adkins couldnt have prepared a similar , longer list
saying no one would buy them is rubbish , pure speculation
what we think is cack might fit somewhere else

I never defended none of those listed
I have said those Wilders retained , plus one or 2 others brought in could do it

you saying I backed all the crap had we is utter bollocks
I said all along we had to move on those that have been listed

We always had 7 or 8 that could do a job Adkins never added to it enough
I believed what Adkins said he was bringing in players , but he never did which is when I went against him

This is literally like talking to a child. Crack on.

your making crap up , I backed Adkins to do a job at the start as we all did , he promised lots of quality was coming

you saying I saw it late is wrong
I gave him the opportunity to put his promises into action

he never delivered so he shot himself down in flames

thats not being a child , its being let down by false dawns

I wonder what excuses the players are giving to their wives for their lack of employment?

I imagine it's along the lines of "I was superb all season, I was let down by my colleagues", or more likely it will follow the lines Adkins / Basham / every other useless player "We have been really good, just unlucky in a few games. We had a great team spirit and all deserved another chance next season" as they contemplate signing for some 4th tier team on £500 a week, if they are lucky.

Good riddance to the lot of them.
Sorry excuses for footballers.

why can't we start again from scratch, Bassett did in 88

The start of the revival. We had just signed Deane, Dickinson (whose career ended after being injured in a car crash two months later) and Joseph (injuries shortened his career). The photo was taken before Alan Harper broke Downes ankle in a "behind closed doors" friendly against Wendy which curtailed his career

To be fair BTL you backed him fully, against most opinions on here until you made your first trip of the season to see us.

Then your tone changed.

again I backed him to add to what we had as he had promised quality signings , so ye I would give him support if that was going to happen , but when it never did he let us all down
and even after the JTW closed he promised loan players , that never materialised either , we just got one player on a rehabilitation loan , Baptiste

well tell me which of the players he promised to bring in after august that he did get here
of those he promised

I can have the same idiotic argument with you for a 15th time.
You don't understand simple premises or logic, or follow arguments, or remember what you posted, or remember what I posted.

well whats your argument with me , I turned against him when he let us down
what are you saying Im missing
I gave him a chance to do his job , when he didnt do it I wanted him to go

whats wrong with that

why did you want to keep him

which bit of logic am I missing
he admitted we needed some quality , he didnt get any

Well done Tufty. You've made an excellent start. Just what was needed. Very pleased in particular that you haven't succumbed to any Bladey drivel about Kennedy and De Juve. Have another look at Paul Coutts though. He's a very good footballer in need of nothing more than an injection of enthusiasm. Oh and beware acting on your mates' advice as seems to be thought a good idea by some on here. We don't want management by anyone's mates thank you...least of all by the crude, parochial, Bladey Blade brigade. Anyway, I digress. More impressed, so far than I expected to be. I might well use that season ticket after all...

Very amused by the Hammond comments though. This from a group of fans who made Nick fucking useless article Montgomery, who was just as bad, and given an equally ridiculous contract extension by that equally fucking useless article SemiPro, a club legend.

Sometimes I despair; sometimes it's a wry smile.
