Zak Brunt and Kacper Lopata

Thanks Yogi, but in a way it's not and I'm glad the bubble has burst. Expectation amongst some our community has been ridiculously high, mostly by the kids who reckon we should wipe everyone out because we're Southend! Also the knives are out for the team and coaches already, but again mostly by those that love to see their avatars in print over and over.

Bottom line, we will know very well what we need to do between now and the start of next season and also player recruitment will be about success for SUFC or don't bother joining us. So I'm hopeful of a flying start for 22/23 season and being up there at the finish. On the upheaval front I genuinely believe that our CEO has a grip on all the baggage that our Chairman left unsorted when he played at being CEO, so provided the funding holds up, all will be well. The fans are also playing their part by turning up in serious numbers home and away which in turn puts more dosh in the pot. So on the SUFC front it's now down to you lot to deliver the promotion goods, Scunthorpe are looking doomed to join us next season and we ain't going anywhere now. So the Acronym success will have to be yours.
It is a tricky thing for a fan base to come to grips with a new reality playing at a level below where you historically see yourselves.

It’s good to hear that you’ve been getting your house in order behind the scenes and like you say now you can get a head start on identifying targets for next year best of luck.

Our success will depend on getting some players back and keeping those we have fit we might’ve lost Sharp for a while in the last match and if we have that’s a blow to lose our captain and main goal threat.

Blame YorkBlade - rumour has it, he sat in the Home End ;)
A surreal situation with the crowd last night, Maidenhead had a sizable group of 13/14 year old hard nuts who decided we were their sworn enemies and were chanting the normal bollocks, 'Your support is f**king Sh*t etc' in squeaky voices when, out of a 1600 crowd we provided 800, just weird. Quite amusing when they passed our end and were greeted with 'School in the morning'. We've only ever played them twice so why the enmity?

I went there for a local non league cup games years ago. One of their players spat at us. Weird place.

Is the honeypot still open?

Bit of a dump the centre of Maidenhead, although a bit further out is nice. They have tried to regenerate the centre but in reality all it's got going for it is crossrail.

For shopping it's too close to Reading and London and if you want a night out you are better off going to Marlow

I'm a bit confused about the whole loan market regarding non-league teams.

I'd kind of assumed that with Lopata moving back to us that was his chance of returning to Southend gone; not looking to give any false hope here Rootshallbloke as he's already said his goodbyes.

But then I came across the below:

I'd pretty much reconciled that Seriki and Belehouan joined Boston and Farsley Celtic because at this point you can only join tier 6.

Clearly not the case as Graham just joined Notts County in Tier 5 from a League club.

Didn't Southend just borrow someone from QPR as well now? So it makes me wonder, are we keeping Kacper now because we just won't chance it for the remaining 8 games plus potential play offs given we've been short before? Were there any talks about him returning to Roots Hall or can you not go there and back and back again? (Sounds like the Hobbit!)

There had been rumours that Joe Gubbins was set to join us on loan from QPR but it's gone quiet, also Cameron Green on loan from Wrexham for the rest of the season. Neither confirmed, but the fact that there is noise on the subject suggests Kacper will stay put. Truthfully, I think, now, that would be the best thing to happen as we need to learn to cope without him ready for next season.................All that said, one of our most reliable ITKs reckons we are exploring the option of making a bid for him if the deal is right. I truthfully find that incredibly unlikely as his future must surely be targeted at a level some way above NL. Maybe if we had been on the play-off trail it may have some credence. And after that I will probably read today that he is back on loan.

One of our most unreliable posters reckons it hinges on us signing Virgil van Dijk in the summer.

Went to Maidenhead tonight and ended up losing ours. Took the lead, let them draw level and then get a winner. Top that off with one of ours getting a straight red and any thoughts of that impossible dream have gone I'm afraid.
On the plus side it did help the Magpies stay clear of the relegation fight. ;)

So we have signed two loanees today, both central defenders. Kenny Clark (33) from Dagenham (presumably for his experience) and Joe Gubbins (20) and 6'.3" for his height and speed. Both till the end of the season. I would imagine that will be that on the Kacper front now.

That’s a shame Roots as we’ve just brought in a Croatian centreback of our own.

Harrison Neal was class, very vocal and involved throughout. I still have no idea what Dunne got sent off for. I thought the Southend fans were brilliant all night.
I'm glad one of you has had a chance to see Neal. I was worried I was overegging the pudding about him at times. Dunne got a straight red for having a chat with the ref which involved some plain speaking most of which was pure Anglo Saxon.

The ref had an interesting night and the freekick he gave which lead to the winner for Maidenhead was a ridiculous decision.

True. He was probably the only person in the ground that reckoned it was a foul, but truthfully our defending from that was a little short of diabolical. Hence the defensive reinforcements signed today. I genuinely think that had Lopata been playing we would have taken them apart, that was the level of confidence he bought to our defence. We were also without 3 first team regulars, but it is what it is and in the end we got what we deserved.

So....

Is the Honey Pot still open?
I don't know.

It's 17 yrs since I ended my decade of exile in Maidenhead but if I ever return I will make a point of finding out for you.

Probably the only thing about Maidenhead that I have ever missed since my return to the north.

From a purely practical, and selfish point of view, the relationship between our two clubs has prospered. It’s to the blades benefit that at least 3 of our young players have enjoyed successful loan spells at Roots Hall.
The next logical step for them all, is to play at a higher level, but their success will do no harm for future attachments with our academy players developing quickly. It has shown that a positive and successful relationship can develop between the two clubs, which is good for both sides. The choice of Lopata, Brunt and Neal will have great potential for their future as players with great leadership qualities. Football improvements are the least our club can expect, but the leadership development, confidence and stature are all bonuses that come from a good relationship between the two clubs.

To continue such development at the next level is key for all our youngsters, and this is where Hecky has such valuable experience with our young players. For some, it’s the first time away from home, and for lads like Lopata, he really seems to enjoy pushing the envelope wherever he goes.

The pairing of players seems to work too, if some thought is given to their selection. If any player fails to make it at our club, they will always have happy and comfortable comparisons to make with their time at Southend Utd.
Given our somewhat straightened circumstances, I think Lopata will certainly make it at the Lane. He is a well rounded and intelligent young man who has the confidence and leadership qualities to make it the man’s game at championship level or higher. His time at Roots Hall has proved that, so thank you.
Long May this proving ground relationship continue. It’s always good to get honest first hand reports about our future first team players as they develop with another club. :)

Tuned in to watch Notts County vs Chesvegas and was hoping to see a glimpse of Brunt. He’s not even made the bench today after being largely being restricted to sub appearances.

His decision to leave Southend appears to have backfired. And if he can’t get in Notts’ team, it would appear that the National League might be his ceiling and we should look to move him on in the summer?

Was hoping he’d kick on but his progress has stalled.

Went to Yeovil, conceded two in the first 10 minutes and never looked like getting back in it. When the winning bubble bursts the wheels can come off big time It looks like Lopata was far more of an important lynch-pin that I ever imagined, not only as a good defender but also as a lucky talisman. So that's that for this afternoon. Next up Notts county and Zac Brunt at Roots Hall next Saturday. As my mate has just said 'Well we ain't gonna get relegated are we? so time to build for next season'. He has a way with words does my mate. In other NL games, Dover went to moneybags, film star driven Wrexham having been relegated last weekend............and lost 5-6 to the Taffs after leady 5-2, it's a funny old league this one.

Captained Poland U20's to a 2-0 win over England last night. Has the makings of being a special player for us if and when we actually get round to playing him.

I hope he does get a chance, but at 20 he has age on his side and if Sheffield United decide he's not for them then I'm confident that he will be picked up by another club of equal status. After all he has been to finishing school at Southend United and we polish them up nicely here, as Neal would testify. Maybe Brunt should have stayed put as well, but there ya go.

I'm guessing Tuesday night took a bit out of the lads, but to provide a bit of contrast on Harrison Neal, these were a couple of feedback comments from the post match thread which were indicative of the other comments. Sorry Harrison's dad if you're reading this. So he does has poor games from which he will learn and we need to remember he is still only 20.

'Neal was poor to distraction; the rest bang average.'
'Atkinson and Neal had poor games. Looked tired. We lacked energy and any sort of creativity.'

Blades, Southend have 9 games left and this thread started life about Kacper Lopata and Zac Brunt. Both of those guys are now no longer with us, which just leaves Harrison Neal. With nothing much to play for now I'm inclined to now make this an exception thread and post if something of note happens to your lad. There's only so much waffling I can do here otherwise.

You guys ok with that, or does waffle continue unabated?
