Up to you of course, but waffle away! I enjoy reading the insight on the lads and even if it is just the one left. Regularly look for your result as I flick through the scores. Hopefully the beginning of something good between the two teams. The lads on loan will have grown up more being away from home than still living at home had they gone local.

Shame for Brunt. He'd have been better staying with you. He'll learn. The grass isn't always greener.

Captained Poland U20's to a 2-0 win over England last night. Has the makings of being a special player for us if and when we actually get round to playing him.
Yes, this, I am quite surprised that Gordon has got ahead of him in the pecking order. Maybe just the timing? Lopata has more experience and a greater physical presence. Not that I think Gordon hasn't done well and earned his place, but Lopata looks a cut above to me, and this is further evidence.

Of note, they both speak very well when interviewed. Especially Gordon. Much better than many of their older contemporaries. I wonder if this is something the club works on with promising youngsters.

Blades, Southend have 9 games left and this thread started life about Kacper Lopata and Zac Brunt. Both of those guys are now no longer with us, which just leaves Harrison Neal. With nothing much to play for now I'm inclined to now make this an exception thread and post if something of note happens to your lad. There's only so much waffling I can do here otherwise.

You guys ok with that, or does waffle continue unabated?
If we happen to draw or lose a football match we have posters on here slating our players (including teenagers and debutants), whereas I enjoy all your posts.
I loved the Ryan Leonard/ Rug Ron thread.
Keep waffling pal.👍

If you're comparing, which one has played more for the U23s, scored most goals, is the quickest?

I was thinking in 'adult' football. Lopata can boast 20 appearances, and Gordon 11, I think. Lopata has also got 7 international caps to his name.

Gordon is 1.84m and Lopata 1.95m. 6' vs 6'4" in old money.

On reflection, I have sort of convinced myself I am splitting hairs a bit. They're both at the same stage of their careers and both show great potential.

I think I have sub-consciously pigeonholed Gordon as 'nice lad, got talent' and Lopata as 'no nonsense unit, got talent' largely based on Rootshallbloke 's reports.

I am forced to concede that the professionals at SUFC know a bit more about this kind of thing than I do.

I wish them both good fortune. They both look like having good pro careers ahead of them. Gordon should be thinking of being a pundit in retirement. Natural.

Sam Graham was a man mountain in the U23s next to Gordon and we let him go in the summer.
I have watched a few of the games on youtube (never when Lopata played) and Gordon looked very quick. Maybe that propelled him up the pecking order?

Waffle freely. Think a few of us now look out for Southend scores due to the thread.

How mobile is Lopata Rootshallbloke and is he any good with the ball?
I watched him warming down after the Barnsley game doing sprints and I thought he looked a little bit cumbersome.

I'd love for you to continue your updates on Neal, on this thread, or another.

I think they are just slightly different players.

I see Lopata as more of a stopper, primed for the Egan role.

Whereas Gordon is more likely to get up and down the pitch.

I think that was perhaps the difference.

Lopata has a good turn of pace when needed but his positioning and his ability to bully other defenders into the right place at the right time was his forte. It was sometimes a bit comical to watch him marshal the entire back line and they to response obediently even though he was the youngest there. He can carry the ball out and he did love a sweeping cross field pass although accuracy was a bit bobbins at times. Probably has stopper on his forehead by instinct. He's got a bloody hard head and sticks it where it's a bit dangerous.

A few interesting posts on Kacper in an ongoing thread on the zone. involving our defensive frailties since you so cruelly recalled him to warm the bench;)

I think people are going to elevate Lopata's importance way beyond what it actually was for us. Yes he was an important part of our defence with his ability, command of the rest of the backline and his leadership (which is incredible given his young age and lack of experience). However, it wasn't like we were constantly keeping clean sheets with him in the side. Our back 5 during our undefeated streak consisted regularly of Ralph, Lopata, Hobson, Demetriou and Clifford. Kensdale and Davies have slotted in during that period, but it was mainly those 5. Lopata has gone, Ralph is now injured for the season and Davies has seemed to replace Demetriou, we've lost a lot of experience and leadership. In the summer we will need a left footed CB and a commanding CB, with a couple of wing backs. I'm sure there are plenty out there in L2, NL and NL North/South who could fit the bill. I'd love for us to sign Lopata on a permanent or loan, but I don't think that is realistic.

Spot on.
Was he a good defender?
Absolutely.
Was he so good that we won’t find another one soon?
Absolutely not.

I agree with the Chapperz view about Kacper. A superb player at this level, and, no doubt, much higher. But our dip in form is down to many reasons apart from his untimely departure. Let's hope that the 3 Amigos can conjour up a storming end to the season, with some performances to justify the post-match view of Paul Cook at Chesterfield that Blues would take points off some of the top teams.

Name a better CB we've had in the last five years?

What’s that got to do with the price of bacon?

Respectfully, you asked: "Was he so good that we won’t find another one soon?" To which I respond with... yes. The guy was an absolute phenom, ran the defence at a brand new club at just 20-years-old, putting veteran pros, our current player of the season and young prospects to shame with his composure, positioning, grit, drive, passing and heading. Loanees like Lopata come around maybe once or twice in a lifetime. Not easily replaceable - as seen by the results since he left

See, I told you I could waffle. But it does sort of back up my view of your young Pole.

He really does need to work on his barnet. Sort of a cross between Peaky Blinders and a Polish Army advert. Am I being unkind?
As long as he doesn't stray too far from our centre back protocol.

Quiet news day, Fill it up with waffle (and a bit of pain). Sympathy gratefully received as I'm getting bugger all from Mrs Roots. No shoelace tying or left handed arse scratching for the time being I reckon.

If you working with a mitre chop saw please be very careful where you put your thumb while the blade is turning. This had been a public information message.

We absolutely forgot where the goal was yesterday, including a penalty miss. Outcome? Notts County were able to nick the lead against the run of play and then popped in two more in the second half to run out 0-3 winners. They weren't all that much but our lads decided enough was enough for this season and the drive and desire of previous weeks has been overtaken by beach holiday plans. Harrison Neal did put in a shift, but on his own he was not going to turn the game around. He has been encouraged to shoot from distance more and he certainly let go some decent shots yesterday, although accuracy needs to be worked on. Zak Brunt warmed the bench for County until 75 minutes and then made an appearance for the last 15. He got a warm round of applause from most of us, but there always have to be a few dick heads that feel the need to boo, why they do that is beyond me as Zac was great when he was with us. Neal battled with him on and off but given the score line by then there was nothing too serious going to happen. Next up Stockport County away. They're top and running away with the league and it's on BT Sport at 5.20pm if you fancy seeing Neal live. It should be a good opportunity for us to give them a good thonging in front of the viewing millions!! Reckon I'll be glad when the season is over and the proper rebuild can take place.

I do hope you lot are going to cheer my season up by nicking a play-off place. Also saw that Egan managed an OG yesterday, time for Kacper to ride into your back line wearing a white hat? I'm not really being serious here, his time will come when your coaching team reckon he's ready.

I'd happily see him in place of Robinson.. if only to see what he's about (or has learnt away)

As we have all said before, Rootshallbloke , it seems that the arrangement of your team taking in our young talent has been good for both sides. We have a lot more where those lads came from, so hopefully this thread continues for a good while (no need to change the name) and we can continue talking about the progress made, and footy stuff in general.

Total capitulation. Probably the most abject performance I have witnessed this season. It does make you wonder whether some of our players want a new contract next season. I did feel sorry for our No2 Keeper, the defending in front of him was anything but. Our coaching team will have to have a good look at themselves, their tactics, their substitutions, and, most importantly their recruitment plan for next season. If any of you did watch, then I'm sorry Harrison Neal did not shine. He joined the rest of our surrender merchants today.

Very little to report today as Harrison Neal didn't make the squad as he's done a hamstring. Not sure how badly or how long out, but we did manage a 3-1 away win without him. Good to see you guys still maintaining an interest in the Championships play-off places. Still fancy your chances?

Nothing to do with this thread, but what on earth was going on with your lad and our old keeper, Daniel Bentley, are they an item off the pitch? (We keep an eye on Daniel's progress in Ex Shrimpers).

Well that was a whoops moment, thanks for being kind and pointing it out. I'll go back to sleep now.
