jostein flo. don't laugh. the players you liked when you were a kid for no real reason kinda stick with you

Growing up Brian Deane, after that Michael brown, and now pretty much every one of this squad.
Its funny I was thinking the other day about all the times I've seen threads on here about your all time blades 11

And it just shows what this side have achieved and the manner in which they have done, that if I had to pick one now, apart from Kelly, Morgan, brown, Deane and agana I couldn't think of anyone else I would add to this group

Difficult......TC Trev Hockey Eddie Colquhoun Tom McAllister Sabella Borbokis Bounceslayer Jan Age Deano (1 and 2) Tony AganaKeith Edwards Billy Deardon Billy Sharp Bashambaur Coutts (never gives the ball away) Ooh Aah Woody Saunders (if only for that goal) and loads loads more. No.....can’t do it!

As a kid I really had a thing for Trevor Hockey. Had a poster of him over my bed.
But on reflection, has to be Deano. (Brian, of course).

Brian Deane.

Met him when Utd came to RAF Locking for pre-season. Although Alan Kelly ran him close, what a player!

1: Glynn Hodges
2: Paul Wood
3: Brian Deane

I'm sure my memories of Paul Wood are vastly distorted but I always thought he was different class as a flying winger

Has to be TC for me, but a lot of super players deserve honourable mentions led by Brian Deane & including but not limited to Woody, Michael Brown, Gil Reece, Big Stan, David Powell, Dane, Duffy, & so on.

I loved Michael Brown when he played for us because he could do everything. Probably enjoyed watching McGoldrick more than any other player, partly because he had to have a trial to sign for us and is now arguably our best player. Norwood looks a cut above in terms of raw quality and I rated Morgan very, very highly.

But there’s only one that I literally hero worshipped - Lord Alan of Kelly.

Possibly the most underrated goalkeeper ever to play the game. He was unbelievable.

We've had so many that could easily be slotted into the category of 'best ever' or 'favourite player'.

A shortish list - I know some on here say he only played a few games for us, but seriously, Paul McGrath was as good as any defender I've ever seen in a Blade's shirt. A master of the defensive arts and someone that any aspiring defender could learn from. Goes without saying that Currie and Woodward are way up there.....loved Gordon Cowans too, he'd be superb in the current side.....Colin Morris, entertaining, could turn a defender inside out, on his day exceptional.....but, and this may not be someone that's considered as one of our best, I loved watching Paul Coutts. Think it was the arrival of Wilder that gave Coutts the belief to realise his potential. Always a technically proficient player, Coutts became the fulcrum of an exceptional midfield including Fleck and Duffy. At times his awareness and ability to hold the ball until just the right moment when he released a pass was superb, and once we were promoted to the Championship he continued in the same rich vein and in my eyes it confirmed his potential to possibly adapt to the Premier Division should we have got there. Cruelly his career with us was cut short by a dreadful tackle by Sordell, and for me, well we'll never know if he could have become the great Prem player I believe he had it within him to become. We were fortunate to have found Norwood as his replacement. A different type of player but still good all the same.......but as much as I regret what happened to Coutts, I still think we could have witnessed a genuinely great player wearing our colours in the Prem, and as such I think Coutts' contribution was central to our climb after too many years as a 'going nowhere' club in Division 1. A wonderful player who was, at his best, imperious.
