I remember Wilder once said to a RS interviewer some time ago something like 'If you were to go up for a header with me, you wouldn't be winning it. 100% you wouldn't'
I got the distinct impression he was talking about absolute commitment, absolute determination, and personal pride.
When Ings put a great cross in, Cannon looked like he was more concerned about maintining the look of his hair than thundering in to get to the ball before the defender, taking him out at the same time if necessary.
We are a million f*****g miles away from that, not just with Cannon, but with pretty much the whole team.
'You've got to DIE to get 3 points' a manager once said, who demanded that level of effort and commitment ....and got it.
With that one pathetic 'effort' to get to the header in, I'd fine Cannon a week's wages and if that didn't work, dump him in the u-23s.
We need players to give back of themselves enough to justify their ridiculous pay packets.

Wilder needs to swallow his pride and leave Cannon out of the squad. It's totally unfair on One, the fans and the rest of the squad that this waste of space is getting minutes.

I can give him a little bit of slack when he comes on for the last 10 minutes when we're defending a lead. Most strikers wouldn't thrive in that situation.

We've now seen him 25 times though. Starting and as a sub, in leading situations, drawing situations and losing situations. We've seen him up front in a two, we've seen him up front alone, and we've seen him wide in a three. There are no excuses any more. He's been absolutely fucking anonymous in whatever situation he's been in. I don't understand how anyone can actually defend him any more (I don't think there are many left that do, to be fair).

The worst thing is, I'd like to blame the management for putting him on the pitch, but I can't because there's no fucker else that can come on other than Ryan Oné, who is also miles off it!

Ings ?

Unsure how Cannons 18mins is the focus point of the defeat. 🤯
because when he comes on its like playing with 10. You put men on to try and get a goal, draw, or even win it. In the past we've won games we were losing in the last ten minutes, the famous Egan goal he got in Extra time to win us the match. Canon epitomises the current state of play within the team. Its not in the highlights wish it was but Ings went down the left of the box and Canon ran into the box, stopped before the penalty spot and was motionless watching Ings, who then crossed the ball, you knew it was coming yet Canon just watched it go into the six yard box, no anticipation, nothing. Like he just couldnt be bothered.

I'd agree with that but only if we get another striker in, even if its a free transfer for now.

Then loan Cannon to Preston in January as we were going to.

I think getting at least one other striker in January is a given

Initially I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
But not any more. He's had enough chances to at least show he's got something there. It's not happened, and it not going to happen.
January, loaned out or sold. Get what they can for him. He's stealing a wage at the moment.

He reminds me very much of when we 1st signed ched Evans 2009.. looked absolutely dog shit at championship level we got relegated and he found his level in lg1 an that is what I think he needs to drop down a level get some goals and come again hopefully not with us tho.

On for 15 minutes or so. There was 75 minutes of crap before that to digest first. He is an issue but not the issue.

That 15 minutes is very important when you're losing though. Most teams bring on an additional striker or swap one out for fresh legs to try and get back in to the game. We're incapable of doing that because we simply don't have that option. We have to bring Cannon on, who has weakened our attacking output every single time he's ever come on. That sounds like it's should be an exaggeration, but it's not.

Similar passage of play. Campbell is running down the left into the box. Ings is steaming into the centre of the box asking for a square ball. Campbell's shooting angle is getting smaller with every step. Campbell shot.

The whole squad is broken. I'm sick of it always being about cannon.

Totally agree. Our biggest issue IMO is the midfield. In most games we basically look like we aren’t playing one. Far too many passengers. It then just leaves our defence exposed or going the other way, without much attacking threat.

That said, if the intention of bringing on Canon as a sub is to score a goal (I’d presume it is), it’s a naive decision given he scored the same number of goals for us last season as Oné (who only played 285 mins to Canon’s 744).

What chances are these?

Coming on for 10-15mins to try and rescue a point is not a chance.

Starting as the lone striker with Hamer and O'Hare nowhere near you is not a chance.

None of our strikers are being given a chance to showcase their talent in this formation. They all want a partner, and if they don't have a partner they want the attacking midfield players behind them to be up with them.

Last season Brewster managed to stay fit, but was deployed as a RW or CAM. That's not fair on him.
When McBurnie was here, we thought - "ooh, he's tall. Boot it long in the air"... There's a reason why he's banging them in and it's because Hull are playing to his strengths. Watch his goals for Swansea and Barnsley on YouTube. He likes to get involved in the build up and arrive late in the box.

This current formation that Wilder is persisting with doesn't suit united. It doesn't suit the strikers.

In the play off semis, we played 4-4-2 in both legs. We won 6-0.

In the last 2 games we've brought Ings on and gone 2 upfront. So Wilder is happy to do it later in the game, why not start like it ?

We have to bring Cannon on, who has weakened our attacking output every single time he's ever come on.
There was no attacking output in the 75 minutes before he came on 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'd argue we created just as much, if not more, with him on yesterday (even if he wasn't directly involved).

It's the set up that's the big issue. He's not pulling up any trees but he's (and Campbell) working off scraps.

Can add Kieffer Moore to that too. His goals to game ratio at United must be the lowest of his career?

It was fucking feeble , sums Cannon up 100%
