Writing McBurnie off after starting in 5 games

I thought he looked really lethargic when he came on for Scotland yesterday. Plus he tended to drift around languidly rather than closing down and pressing when out of possession - maybe following orders?

But he also showed a couple of nice touches, including a back heel in the box right at the death, which on another day could have led to a tap in goal. If he ups his physicality and workmate, he could still work out well for us, but I do worry that he doesn't have the attitude to succeed under Wilder.

We shall see.

All it could take is one match winning goal to get this lad up and running. Unfortunately for him, with how well Didz and Mousse are doing, he will have to be content with a place on the bench.

Just needs to improve his body, his ability control it, his brain and his football skills.

Then we might be onto a winner.

If not, we should be able to get at least £10m back due to his Championship scoring record. Wait till Leeds fancy spending.

I don't think playing for Scotland in some God foresaken footballing backwater should be held up as any barometer for how he will play for us. As an eternal optimist ( strange for a lifelong blade) I think he will improve and his time will come. At the moment the team is picking itself, but as injuries, suspensions and winter mount up an opportunity will present itself. In the words of Norman Stanley Fletcher, "Bide your time, keep your nose clean and don't let the bastards grind you down."

He often looks either lazy or physically incapable of doing any of the defensive side asked of him. He reminds me of some of our players in the Kendall era who were too hungover to do their job. I'm not saying he is, but he looks totally knackered after 10 minutes.

Almost there than Rick. Just the basics to improve on ?

Doddle 😀👍.

I’m convinced 😂

UTB

Absolutely no doubt he’ll be a hit and Wilder/Knill are the perfect duo to make him the player he can be.
He’s not our record signing and on a 4 year contract for nothing.

It's almost as though all of our other strikers are on 8 goals.

Did I miss them all?

He will come good and so will Robinson, those saying otherwise have just moved on from hating Lundstram. ✊💦💦💦

I’d like to get on board with the positivity, but I just cant see in what parallel universe Ollie McBurnie, might ever become a top Premier League goal scorer?

It’s all very laudable getting behind him, cos he’s our top signing and we all want him to succeed but, I’ll be surprised if he’s still here next season. The lad gives me the impression that he’s financially set up for life and he doesn’t look like he’s really that bothered about being a footballer.
But, when he’s lining up alongside ten others who have almost to a man, through hard work, dedication, commitment and sheer determination, earned the right to play at this level, I find his general ambivalence and lethargy a fucking insult to the shirt.

But all that aside, I suspect his biggest obstacle to ever realising his potential, are his off field influences and the fact that he’s clearly fairly short on common sense.

Time will tell, I suppose 😉

Not just you - according to the BBC ratings, McBeardie scored lowest rating (as voted by the public, so this could be a conspiracy) out of all 14 Scotland players to feature in the Cyprus match: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50445586

If ever a player didn't deserve a song it's McBurnie. I cringe when I hear it.

We even have the likes of Basham and Fleck who barely have one!

McBurnie is one of those surprisingly rare players blessed with a 5-syllable name that lends itself nicely to the Jeremy Corbyn tune. Shame he's not yet been good enough to earn it. You could try it with Basham ("Oh, Chris-to-pher Baaaaa - shum") if you want to get a lifetime ban. Thankfully we've got David Mcgoldrick.

Watching the game it was clear they needed someone to come on and provide more energy and spark. Sadly he didn't. I think most defenders would have been happy playing against him in high heels😏.Doesn't look committed enough to me. I hope he finds what it takes to impact a game.

We’re in a bit of unique situation as Blades fans because, as I feared a bit, the sums we had to spend this summer were always going to be eye watering for us. Egan got grief for a bit after not being an instant hero at £4m for example.

I’ve been critical of both Robinson and McBurnie, so I’ll not say the wait and see comment, because I’ve already been very critical.

So far though, we’ve spent £28m on 2 players who look unlikely to make an impact. These are amounts that Premier League teams have to accept as losses, and regularly do, it’s just we’re (and I, and in particular my old man ffs 🤣🤣) not used to such a level of spending.

I said, albeit privately to mates, that if we spend £20m on a striker (whoever it was) If they didn’t score or create in every game there would be discontent. If we’re top 10 in the next few years it’ll be all ‘meh, worth a punt, shame it didn’t work’

I’m not saying McBurnie is done by any stretch, but the Moose is about 2 seasons behind him in playing time and is now the first name on the team sheet. McBurnie juts looks tired ?

If he tidied his beard and pulled his socks up it’d be a start. it would at least get the trampists amongst us off his back.

He has done, turned up for the Arsenal game with a sensible haircut and a tidy beard.

Think people need to realise we're in the Premier League now, a £18.5m striker is expected to be an 8-10 goals striker at best.

It's really not a lot of money, that doesn't fit with a lot of our world views but it's the truth in the top tier.

Some teams have to take the hit on £50m players.

The amount paid for McBurnie isn't a lot for most PL teams, but it is for SUFC!
However, it's not how much we paid that bothers me about him, although it is looking like a waste of money.
Robinson has at least shown some glimpses of potential, even though he's looked lost in recent games.....
