Considering likely to be a Championship fixture next season anyway, with the final nail in the coffin now (and sandbags heaped on top) would anyone be comfortable if this lineup was picked?

Bonus: Gets rid of those 3 toxic midfielders (who i hope Wilder has called into a meeting already and told them they will never play for the Blades again)

No far too many youngsters especially in the spine of the team. In an ideal world you bring them on for 20 mins here and there when controlling games not in response to a downturn in form and a few injuries.

Not sure whats toxic about the midfield? Lundstram has arguably been our most consistent midfielder this season in spite of contract issues, Fleck would still cost a fair few million to replace. Yes Norwood is struggling right now but chucking the toys out the pram and letting a load of 18 year old lads get battered by a resurgent Fulham is good for no one.

Also I believe no one in that team other than Basham is over 6ft? We struggle defending set pieces and it is without reverting to Nigel Clough's midget side.

In Wilder's shoes I wouldn't play the youngsters from the start, but I would switch the formation for at least a few games to try and freshen things up. Maybe 4-4-2 with Baldock and Bogle down the right.

The team won't change from last night until they start drawing their old age pension (or Wilder does). Wilder doesn't seem too impressed with HIS team on the Beeb interview,

I'm seriously wondering why people so concerned about the 'kids' playing.

No way Jags can do 90 mins. They've all been offered pro contracts, are we saying they're not even going to get time in championship?

As the addage goes, if they're good enough they're old enough. Give Gordon a go in CD, give Hackford 60 mins up top. Put Maguire in for Norwood I say...

Can't do any worse anyway and they'd all be eager to impress. And if they get hammered well next season they drop down a league to continue to develop.

All pluses and little minuses to giving them a run in my honest opinion..

Because if you play too many of them and they get destroyed it can ruin them for years to come. They need to be nurtured and thrown in at the right time.

For what it’s worth, I’d play 2, any 2 for the rest of the season and see who’s got a bit about them.

Kyron Gordon is a no brainer now Egan is out, and someone on the right hand side of midfield to get that Scouse charlatan wage thief out; Brunt, Ayari, NDiaye, Maguire - anyone.

We all know anything like that is never going to happen in a million years....CW is too stubborn for starters...

Agree with the kids bit!
But in my opinion our biggest weakness is in midfield ,Fleck is the pick but we lack nous and mobility in a big way ,we pass it for passing's sake.
From what Wilder says it's not coming from him! Just the players ducking out of responsibility to move the ball quickly with a bit of purpose, just not good enough.
Championship quality going back to where they belong really.
It's ok blaming the strikers but the best strikers around would find it hard to score goals with the lack of chances created.
Not surprising they snatch at chances and miss them as they dont know when the next one will comes along.

Playing inexperienced youngsters at this stage wont do them or our ailing team any good .They will get there chance in time if good enough

I think he'll play the same team with Jags for Egan. None of this is CW's fault remember.

I agree to a certain extent, but I don't think it should be a definite no. When we went down from the Championship, Maguire became a regular starter for the last month, or so and it didn't do him any harm.

This idea of just go for it now and try weird team selections is ridiculous. Look how mental people go when we lose tight games. Imagine if we played that and "went for it" and got beat 4 or 5. If you're seriously saying John Fleck should never play for the club again then we're going to need a completely new team every few months. Over the top nonsense.

I assume our strikeforce next year will be McBurnie and Brewster so he should be starting them together so they can try and get some understanding.

I completely agree but I wouldn’t be overly shocked if Swansea get promoted we may cut our losses on one of them.

Where does this idea come from that Bogle will make a good CM? I've seen it suggested numerous times on here. Has he ever played there?

There seems to be a rather bizarre belief that players who have played all their lives in certain positions can magically play other positions. His weaknesses include tracking back and marking so I'm sure it would be no problem!

Nope for a start Maguire is a box to box player and most certainly not a 10 brunt is your man for that and bogle would look lost RCM. Gordon is small and lightweight for a centreback so playing him in middle would likely be a mistake if he played it would have to be in Basham’s position. Hackford and Brewster are very similar types in terms of athleticism and that pairing up top would give us no chance in the air or in behind on the break.

The OP mentions that the Fulham v Blades game will most likely be a Champ fixture next season. I wouldn't bet on that. I can see Fulham escaping and Newcastle taking their place for the drop. Normally I would have a smile on my face to see Newcastle drop down, but to be honest, they would then become red hot favourites to get back up again, making it all the more difficult for us to bounce back.
Regarding the introduction of fringe players, I can't see CW changing direction with his team selection apart from replacing the injured. It doesn't seem to be his style, although on this occasion I have to admit I don't agree with him. I would love to see some young fringe players breaking through and getting game time, but I can't see it happening.
Hope I'm proven wrong.

He played in midfield against Brighton.....and scored. Probably comes from that. Thought he played quite well that day.

Think he’s played there for Derby too.
