Would it be possible for a Wednesdayite to infiltrate our forum?

I used to be like the half dozen or so posters on here who find the silver lining in every cloud
I would become embroiled in heated arguments with posters who I saw as wind up merchants just out to get on the nerves of the loyal die hard blades like me

I would take it personally when someone criticised the running of the team/club or the intentions of the chairman

The difference then was we were in a period of relative success on our way up ton the premier league to mix it with the big boys

The subsequent fall from grace and the position we are in now is all down to a miserly attitude towards strengthening the team after Bryan pisshead Robson wasted the only real money we've ever spent

Ever since then everything's been done on the cheap
even Blackwell would have got us up if beattie hadn't been sold

So forgive me if I seem a bit a bit cynical but up until the Maguires sale I was still pretty optimistic but that killed that stone dead and I've seen nothing since to suggest any change in attitude at boardroom level

I'm struggling to argue with this and I'm one of the guys who used to wind him up!

lets stay realistic , weve has 5 seasons in with the big boys in the past 40 seasons
not performing greatly when there
We have had 8 in div 3 1 in 4 the rest 32 what had become our level the championship

we dismiss our season in div 4 but we only managed 1 in the prem lately , only our wishful thinking makes us believe thats our rightful spot

When we realise we are not a prem club , we might stop having overly optimistic expectations
all weve done is have 1 season there in the past 18

Your enthusiasm is endearing, afterall we all want the same thing.

But you have an "optimism" many can't match, and I'm not sure widespread attitudes like yours would do us any service.

It has taken a special kind of incompetence at various levels to land this football club where it is. Its really not our natural place, and we should say so. These seemingly constant apologies for such failure do us no favours.

Indeed. We have had 111 league seasons. In only 4 of them (1979-83) have we finished below last season's finish. Hence last season was the 5th worse season in the club's history.

I'm sorry but I have to wade in here because for me personally this is utter tripe. It is also tripe for pretty much every Blade I know. No one I know thinks our rightful place is in the Premiership, they think we belong in the Championship because we do historically. Might be a few years back but someone did an average of every position we have finished in our history and we averaged about 9th in the Championship.

It might suit your world view that everyone negative is a raving loon with overambition on their lips but if you actually talk to people, more importantly listen to them you will hear/read the reality.

The average position I saw had us at the bottom of the top flight, but that was a while ago and I agree with your point.

I did it and I think I got us at 22nd or something, so topish of the 2nd tier. Certainly in my life time (since 1966) our "natural" position has been top half of the 2nd tier.

I don't think of us as a premier league club but no lower than championship

Sorry wrote this before I saw the other reply above

So, we shit then?

Its when the negativity becomes the default position , Cloughs been here a year , thats a year
he inherited the biggest pile of shite weve probably ever had

Is it really fair to start whining 12 months into starting from scratch with what was in the first 6 months little to no help financially
Yes theres still problems , but do they need comparing to previous administrations , do the weve lost in play off finals before need throwing in his face every time we draw , was clough responsible for us being relegated ,,,, err no

Lets see how it pans out , yes we as fans are impatient its been 4 years for us , its only been one for nigel and the first 6 months were stopping the ship hitting the rocks

the mans got a 55% win ratio in his first year and that with the crap he inherited he deserves a fucking medal

I couldn't disagree with this statement if I wanted to. It nails it. We don't think we live in the Premiership, we aren't up there with Man U, Chelsea, even West Ham or Stoke to be honest but we should be there with Forest, Derby, Leeds, Snortbeasts, Reading and above Rotherham FFS. You sum it up well Alco, it takes a special sort of effort to mismanage a club to this depth seeing where we came from. You can make all the blade, bladey bladeness excuses you like and you can forgive him as many times as you like but the facts speak for themselves. It isn't Robson, Warnock, Blackwell, Wilson, Adams, Morgan, Speed, Weir or Clough who have us where we are. They have all been and gone (bar one). There is a person who took the glory when we got up to the top and having got there under his excellent stewardship it hurts even more that we are where we are. We are here because of Kevin McCabe. His appointments, his sackings and his utter madness since 2007 have sunk us here. We don't belong here but if we aren't careful we may make enough excuses that this is where we reside for the foreseeable.

We glimpsed a 5 bedroom detached in Kensington, how come we are now living out of a cardboard box in Hartlepool?

so the emotional attachment people have with the club forged over decades of very personal experiences should be put to one side because the manager is fairly new ?

For a start the average life span of a manager now is 18 months
meaning clough is 3/4 way through his spell
secondly it's not 1970 and he is not his dad
and thirdly what you are effectively asking people to do is not care which sort of defeats the object doesn't it and what exactly should we do then ?

Of that there is no doubt , but 90 % of where we are now has absolutely nothing to do with Nigel , hes just the paramedic trying to get our heart beating again , lets stand back and let him apply the defribulator

what a bag of shit
tell me a manager who would have come in and won 55% of his games with our squad in the last 12 months got us to a cup semi and a league cup quarter finals and in a play off spot

with spending what he has
hes not his dad and we arent warnocks 1993 side,,,,, yet

clough did a great job last season no disputing that

With a bit of backing could have done as well this season too

He hasn't though has he ?

Oh oh! they're back, the slashers, give them an inch! Did we draw at the weekend when we were supposed to win? Off we go again, all the same ow'd.

This thread was a mistake. For some reason I have had these dark thoughts about what a Wednesdayite or an agitator might say if he wanted just to stir up antagonism and encourage impressionable true supporters against the club, perhaps even encourage the club board to panic action rather than be patient in rebuilding the club. There are a lot of young fans on this forum and I'd hate them to believe that a voluble volatile minority( who are always there to diss the manager, the club, the board, anything that's United) actually talk the truth and reflect the sentiment of 20k fans. They make the most noise but they are not representative of our fans.

Judge thinks I meant him. For some reason the cap fitted him and he chose to wear it. I didn't mean him, I didn't mean anybody on here. However time and again I read posts and wonder why certain fans, yes fans, delight in negatives, seem to hope to pass their depression about United on to as many people as possible. They take a personal stake in the club's failure almost, though they always add a proviso that nobody will be happier than them if the club succeeds, but........!

The OP and title of the thread was poor. I meant why are certain fans so keen to feed off the negatives, even history that may go back 10 years or more, and why are they the ones who sit at the keyboard the most just to spread negatives?

Back to those dark thoughts. It's what a Wednesdayite would want them to do.

Do you really think that , honestly

Clough has done a decent job.

Do you accept that McCabe has done a woeful one, because it's never been evident that you think this way?

You seem entirely positive about entirely everything, which is nice, but entirely unrealistic.

UTB

It makes you fucking badly its as though some are just waiting for Clough to slip up FFS.

2 or 3 nowt win against County and the knockers will be know where to be seen.

Am I a slasher? I feel slightly more positive than negative about us at the moment, but surely only a complete fucking idiot cold disagree that we should be demanding better than what we have right now.

Won't somebody please think of the Children! See it your way that's fine but will you please stop patronising people just because they have an alternative view. Fans should have open forum to all views and be free to make their own minds up, in this place that is what they have. I understand from your posts you want some dictatorial right to only post positive ideals or say nothing.

Its a human condition for people the knee jerk, read the papers, watch the news, it happens. But don't disrespect the opinions of people who have as much right as you to think the way they do.

I utterly disagree with your standpoint but I would never tell you not to have it. Would you please stop enforcing your view over others as if it has more validity. If you think its bad here perhaps you should go elsewhere on the internet and see how dark some people really think over SUFC.

You did mean me ,you still mean me now
nearly all your posts are a pop at posters with different views to yours

Do you really believe that me or other"slashers" feed off negativity or enjoy seeing us lose or sit at the keyboard to spread negatives ?

I've met quite a few of here and they will tell you I'm not a negative person if my views seem that way it's for a reason
you will find that most blades only care about the club and want us to win

By just disregrading their opinion's you are not really adding much to the forum other than an air of self satisfied smugness

Who are these knockers that will disappear?

I've made the same comments about us all season. Neither overly positive or negative, just my version of realism.

Do I really think what ? We should beat every other club 65-0 ?

You're just being silly now

Where would be an acceptable position for us right now , in your eyes judge, top 20 points clear with a 46 plus gd

give us a clue I find some peoples expectations are similar to those on crystal meths

http://www.footstats.co.uk/?task=formguide
I think we should be doing better yes ,I still think we can do better with some good recruitment the fans are there just need the players to get behind
