Worst player ever

I had a Sunderland fan fit my new carpets recently, and he told me that Milton Nunez story. He said Peter Reid never actually saw him play before signing him, and signed him based on a tip off from a scout that he knew from his days at Everton. (Similar to what Warnock did with Lee Baxter).

As Reid has never seen the Milton Nunez his friend was referring too, the imposter Milton Nunez, who was also a professional football albeit not a very good one, was signed up hastily to beat off alleged competition from a catalogue of major European clubs.

Unfortunately for Sunderland as Reid had never seen the intended one in the flesh, the other one managed to make a couple of Premier League appearances before his Everton friend saw him on Match of the Day and hastily gave Pete a call to let him know he'd got the wrong guy.

It all seems far too bizarre to be true, but you never know what can happen in football these days I suppose.

He was a superstar compared with that left back that Blackwell got for us.

I'm not even going to mention his name for fear he may be summoned up

We've definitely had worse than Hammond. The whole situation last season, coupled with his wages, makes it easier to pick him out as the worst though.

This calls for the next re-run of 'The Worst Ever Blades XI' thread...

Baxter or Johns in goal?

That's not Stanley, he would have been an improvement.
Ah, Nicky Johns. He only played one game for us but I still remember it now. Apparently, we got him on loan from Tampa Bay Rowdies. Perhaps he had jet lag.

Didn't Johns play 3 or 4 games? We won one 3-2 then got pasted on the following tuesday with one of the worst goalkespinv displays ever witnessed.

In activating that extra year Hammond sealed his status as one of our worst ever and ensured his name will always be near the top of the list in these discussions. Wanker.

Just the one I think. Saved me buying a gun.

Anyone who thinks that Johns was our worst keeper clearly isn't old enough to have seen Des Thompson

Worst Goalkeeper!!!! - what about Derek Richardson!!
Hammond deserves to be immortalised in stone in the car park - on his knees with his head between the stocks.

True. I still think Neill Collins was one of the worst, because of the longevity of his awfulness.

The day we signed him i thought it signalled a massive lowering of the standard of player we were now shopping for and that the board had given up. I remember thinking we are fucked if he's the answer. Collins will always be one of the very worse players we have had, to me anyway.

It is impossible to single out our worst player as we have had so many who have been utter garbage. If pushed I would go for Paul Williams but I could mention many many more who were as equally shit!

I take it you wasn't there at Turf Moor, granted Derek was a shocker but Mr Baxter was World class at ineptness

So many bad players over the years: Baxter, Ian Hamilton, Nick Montgomery, Michael Twiss, James Thomas, Jon Newby, Nigel Spackman, Bobby Ford and Iffy Onoura.
