I hadn't even realised Anthony Stokes was Anthony Stokes. For some reason i thought he was Sam Vokes. God knows who i thought Sam Vokes was.

Stokes is perhaps my most hated United player of all time. It's a really irrational hatred, but I think it's mostly due to the fact that I never once saw him pass the ball while he was here.

Pericard and Stokes were truly shocking, the fact that Stokes has been such a success in Scotland, suggests that I may have notched once or twice playing north of the border. Both were loan signings so in my own way I've not took them into account.

Andy Gray had his moments, but 25 goals in 58 games is pretty decent. He'd be a legend if he was playing for the current squad, so he's a non starter for the nightmare squad for me.

So I've gone for Britton. No doubting his ability, but he was a massive disappointment for us.

It's funny, my one memory of Pericard is him scoring against Plymouth in a 4-0 win after Geary made a great run down the right and crossed it in to him. Geary injured himself in the process if I remember correctly. Now though you've got me wondering if I haven't completely made all that up! Darren?

EDIT - having had a neb on Wikipedia it appeared that Pericard scored twice in 11, and Stokes, supposedly a striker, scored no goals in 12 matches. Stokes has played 61 matches in English football, according to Wikipedia, and scored three goals. Another lightweight, able to score in the Scottish Mickey Mouse League, but basically shite in a half-decent league.

In Scotland he has scored 71 in 141 appearances. As you say another example of the chasm in quality between the two countries.

I can understand some frustration at him, he didn't contribute a lot other than goals and what have you but I remember some posters, like our dearly departed Len calling him the worst player we've ever had which is objectively and demonstrably not true, even remotely.

He was there to score goals and he did so at an excellent rate, only Beattie has surpassed him playing at the same level since.

The idea of Britton being our worst number 8. The question wasn't 'Most disappointing number 8', but the worst. Sorry, but in his first game for United when he looked so very very very good, Leon Britton did more in around 5 passes than Stokes did in his full time at the lane.

As he's proven so handily elsewhere, LB among the best players to have pulled on a United shirt in the last 5 years and shouldn't be anywhere near this poll.
