Word or phrases only commentators use...

All advertisments are hidden for logged in members, why not log in/register?

Watching the match earlier. Preston commentator said:

United are getting into the "ascendancy"... now I don't think I ever hear that word in normal life, only football commentary.

Slightly different, but why do commentators say "just about"?... "he just about kept it in". Well if it didn't go out, he didn't 'just about' keep it in, he actually kept it in.

Any more ??

Football is the only place anyone ever uses that measurement.... and in the wrong context.
I think Bert will find that this phrase is also used in cricket, when referring to a fast bowler's apparent loss of bowling speed
Bert should know that Woodwaaard finds its use ridiculous in both cases
