Apparently, Danny Wilson is 'peeved' that Sheffield United lost yet another penalty 'shoot out'
He quotes 'Mental Block' as the reason
He is the manager - the team should be Professional Footballers paid very well (yes even at a skint Sheffield United FC) who should be able to take a penalty - get your coaches to show them how to shoot on target from 12 yards - other clubs do not appear to have our problems!
Whether it was an important game or not we have proved time and again that we 'bottle it' when it comes to a penalty shoot out.
Also last night, the most inexperienced player in the team volunteered to take the first penalty and scored!- if the other more seasoned players had the balls perhaps we may be better at it!
And for a professional footballer to miss the target totally - words fail me!

The bigger problem for me is our keepers never seem to save any ,compared to others. Only simmonsen missed during sudden death at wembley ,if he had saved one instead of missing his own ,we wouldnt have had to play in this competition.

Both - Flynn ought to be able to hit the target from the penalty spot - their keeper didn't even have to save it!
Wilson is the manager - the buck stops at his door - he is responsible for the team - if they can't shoot on target from 12 yards then he should address it - coach them or sign players that are capable of shooting on target!

I don't know about other clubs, but England have the same problems, with players much more highly paid than ours.

Paddy was injured if I remember correctly during that game, and could only dive to one side, which the Arsenal players took advantage of by putting their penalties in the opposite corner.

to be fair to Simmo, he saved two of the first 5. if im a keeper n i save 2 of the first 5, i expect to win and not have to take one myself. it only takes 4/5 of your teammates to score.

Feel a bit the same mate. We used to have a self-depricating, gallows sense of humour as Blades. Seems to have disappeared and replaced by bile, vitriol and the constant use of hilarious (sic) pseudonyms for whoever the latest scapegoat is.

We used to have a self-depricating, gallows sense of humour as Blades.

It was probably our most endearing quality as a club. I always had friends and family (who were supporters of other clubs) commenting on it and saying what a good laugh Blades were. Never hear that anymore.

I remember going to games as a young lad and laughing a joking with other Blades constantly. We've just become like every other club now. Thinks its just the way football has gone.....the commercial modernisation of it all has ruined the fun element.
