Unfortunately, I was unable to go to the match last night but caught the Wilson interview on Radio Sheffield
Paul Walker did for once ask some searching questions regarding the performance and Wilson was certainly very, very defensive interspersing every comment with a 'yu know' - normally
Wilson trots out the same'Every game is very difficult but I was pleased with the performance' etc but last night was different - very tetchy and when Walker commented about Flynn unable to beat the first man from the corner he really jumped up and down.
Has he had words spoken from above - not sure but certainly last night he was very prickly!!

i've never been so subdued after a win. there were droves of people leaving before the end (perhaps they couldn't take the stress of the last five minutes) and a few boos when we had won.. awful match.. if one of Dannys specific tasks is to create watchable football, then no wonder he is prickly

I thought his interview was ok.

They always are. Never too happy, never too sad. He basically said Flynn is very gifted and next week he'll bang the crosses onto heads. I think he has to say these things. He can't come out and say "yeah, you're right he's garbage."

I think he should drop him and let him re-earn his place in the team,. That speaks volumes, slagging him off publicly doesn't.

I doubt it.

The voices "from above" have sanctioned the removal of his better players (don't worry folks, i'm not talking Monty) and won't even allow a loan goalkeeper in without someone going out.
I would have thought our current position on the back of this is more than acceptable for them.

His comments on the main BBC report seen very fair to me. I couldn't go but Paulus minor tells me it was pretty hard going. I ended up seeing the best team in the world huff and puff for the entire match trying to find a way past a well organized pub team and it took them until the 93rd minute to do it. If a team of willing workers are well organized and set out to defend it is very difficult for any team to break them down.

Thought we completely controlled the first half and whilst we only scored from a pen, it felt like job done and we were rarely troubled.

Second half was very, very dull, seemed that Walsall were never going to get in behind us and again we weren't troubled. If ever there was a text book 1-0 then that was it.

Sure we didn't get anymore goals, we perhaps should've stepped it up a gear, but we were extremely cautious. I'd be tempted to play the lad at left back as an extra midfielder as he was useless defensively, but looked decent when linking up with Flynn on the left. We'd be better with 3 at the back.

We're extremely predictable though. Everything is worked down the left.

Was it just me or was keeping possession just too easy.

All I said at the end was, job done. Looking at the table, it seems that was all we needed to do

I do not expect him to do that - all he needed to say was that it was something to work on in training - similar to the reaction when we were missing several chances early in the season
Usually Wilson comes over very calm and unflappable - last night was different!

He was ruffled after the pig defeat at the sty, when the reporter asked him , in effect, is it over yet, etc?

Absolutely no problem with the interview. Of course he's not going to lay into Flynn, off the back of one poor game, when to date he's been key to the team and has had plenty of success with set-pieces. If there was any overly-defensive attitude, it was probably because he caught some of the ridiculous callers Walker dealt with in the run-up to the interview. For all the complaining on here and elsewhere about Radio Sheffield being overly biased towards the other lot, they kept the programme running till 10:30 to give our fans virtually all of the airtime and it was just negative call after negative call. Walker should be praised for not losing his rag frankly.

His specific task is to get us promoted. How he does that is pretty irrelevant.

Looking at the table, there seems to be a bit of a breakaway starting at the top with us, Tranmere, Steveange and Crawley. That's a bit similar to last season where the breakout teams were us, Charlton, Wednesday and Huddersfield.

Look at our competitors this season compared to last season. If we can't go up when faced with the likes of them something is very wrong.

With the financial restrictions he is working under we have to accept do we want good football or promotion.
We might not get either but we certainly will not get both when you look at the players moved on.
Just recall how many 1-0 results Charlton got last season.

Agreed. Our 90 point teams last season was effectively:

Simonsen

Lowton
Collins
Maguire
Jean_Francois

Williamson
MacDonald
Doyle
Quinn

Evans
Cresswell

Only 4 of that team are regulars this time round. To be averaging 2 points a game is pretty good considering.

Very good analysis of this seasons problems.
Imho 4 of those players have not been properly replaced but in order to do so funding is required.
On that basis we will have to accept that we are still unbeaten, defence conceded the lowest number of goals in this league and trust that Danny is doing his best and knows the football is below par.
Will not help to get on his back.

I listened to Wilson's interview this morning and thought he was a little tetchy and defensive. Perhaps he is feeling the pressure a little. He would certainly have heard the boo's and lack of clapping agter the final whistle. He may be wondering what more he has to do (that is that he had the best players removed from the team, yet has us challenging for automatic promotion) and yet everyone is moaning. But he may also be thinking that it is shit or bust. He has the highest wage bill in the division, a pretty talented squad and the rest of the division is cack. He might also be thinking that the players let him down and were thoroughly gash. He coyuld have been thinking those wankers were shit again and now I have to put on a brave face and defend them in front of the cameras etc. Difficult to tell.

There were boos and a lack of clapping after we've won? Unbelievable.

We haven't played as well so far this season as we did last. But our fans need to wise up that this isn't the same team, that cuts have had to be made, and that we're actually doing pretty bloody well given that. Plenty of other teams that have had to substantially overhaul their teams in League 1 following relegation have gone on to spend multiple seasons in this division - we are perfectly placed to compete for the top two at the minute, and credit to Wilson for despite the changes getting us there.

Do we deserve to be 3rd? Arguably not based on performances - certainly not based on the attitude of those that booed at the final whistle last night.

I didn't hear the boos if I'm honest, but there was applause. I can understand many believing that there was no applause.... Because when the majority left on 85 mins, there was still 9 mins left to play.

i take it you weren't there then.. not so much the pathetic 'entertainment on offer'.. what really got to people is that we defended a one nil lead for 75 minutes against ten men and showed absolutely zero ambition .. hopefully it won't come down to goal difference at the end of the season

Most of the problems lie in the fact that we have so much possession and create so little!
It's not about being 'not as good as last year' more we are good enough to be dominating sides yet struggle to close a game out!
Last week v Notts Co JPT we effectively finished the game off at half time and looked far more confident!
Whilst we have lost better players than the replacements we are still far superior ability wise than most of the sides in this division yet we consistantly don't do the basic things ie Corners, Passing, Movement etc

The game against Notts County showed what the team can actually can do. Although the team against County had Miller and Porter upfront who worked very well together with Harriot and Chapell in midfield. It is certainly worth starting Miller from here on in.

Whilst reading the article yesterday referring to the loan of Jordan Chappell to Burton it described him as below:
Brewers manager Gary Re’s an old fashioned winger in terms of he likes to try and go past his man. Pace in wide areas is something that we have been looking for.
Brewers manBrewers manager Gary Rowett said, ‘He’s someone we’ve watched a few times now and Kevin Summerfield has been to watch him play recently where he really stood out. He’s a right winger with lots of pace. He’s an old fashioned winger in terms of he likes to try and go past his man. Pace in wide areas is something that we have been looking for.

So has Danny Wilson !!
Isn't that what Wilson has been searching for for the past What1I2 months?

good points if I may add,
1- simmo shite, out of contract would we keep him.
2- Lowts, sold to balance the books.
3-J.F injured, only coming back, and now injured again.
4. Willo, well was the grass greener willo.
5-Macca, knew which side his bread was buttered.
6-Quinner,see Lowts.
7- Ched out of contract-out on bail, let you deciede.
So in short 4 out of contract, 1 released,1 re-signed,1 inside,1fucked off.2 sold
the replacments are at least younger and hungrier to play for us or do we want 30+ year journey men on 3yr contracts,in short Wilson in 2nd year syndrome [yawn ] is making a silk purse out of a sow's ear in my book, with what he has and long may it continue.UTB.

There were some dean finite boo's on the kop. There were not that many, but definately enough to hear. Where I was sat (seat 89 row JJ) I heard a mixture of applause and boo's at the final whistle. It was an incredibly subdued atmosphere. Most left before the final whistle. It was bizarre to see so many fans streaming out of the kop with 10 mins still left to play. On the way out it was very quiet other than the odd moan and groan and it certainly did not feel like a victory.

I am not condonig any of those who boo-ed, but for those that did not go and say 'we got the points, cannot believe what our fans are like etc' I do not think you understand how bad the game was. Looking back now I am happy we won and do not give a shit about the entertainment factor, but it definately had a Blackwellian feel about it.

Until we play like Real madrid some people will never be happy.
playing average and getting points is better than playing fancy football and getting nowt.get real people.wilson has done what he`s been told to do and can do nothing else.
the last time i looked we were still unbeaten???!!???
and before all those posting`there not worth the money to watch that garbage`then you`ll do well to find garbage elsewhere in the football league thats cheaper to watch.
well done danny.keep up the good work.

I actually thought he was quite lightheated about it to be honest. Did he not struggle to surpress a laugh when Walker pushed him on his thoughts on Flynns failure to beat the 1st man at set pieces and he tried to defend him? or was I hearing things.
