Williamson?

Why would we want him back? has everyone forgotten his Lord Lucan like performances when we really really needed him to stand up and be counted? No ta, I'd sooner have brain in dick back.

That Dumbaya isn't a bad player is he? Could do alright for us. Daft as it sounds, Howard would fit in with the Wilson's style of football. Could be decent cover for McDonald, plus he can chip in with a few goals. In fact, I'd probably take any of them as decent additions to our squad.

If they perform.

Remember Willo is injury and red card prone.

Wilson would be better off dusting his boots off himself than re-signing Howard.

I'd take Jon Harley back on a pay as you play, just because he's Jon Harley, but leave the others to scratch around trying to find someone to take them.

Out of the three Harley would be last on the list for me, we've got enough left back cover.

We are severely lacking backup in the centre of the park however!

Like I said, pay as you play, just because he's Jon Harley, he'd still be better in the middle of the park than Howard.

Don't touch 'em with a barge pole.

:D

Must admit the only one I would seriously consider would be Williamson, but given his comments on going to Pompey that pretty much rules him out.

I would like to see us get some more contenders for the middle of the park. Doyle and Macca have no pressure on their places whatsoever!

As would I, thats why I rule these out :)

No. Part of what was wrong with the club before we were relegated.

Injury prone, over 30 & bad attitude to match.

you're like an arguing female when it comes to music. Here is the snog to shut you up

One of my favourite bands and much heavier than people gave them credit for. For me, they were a rock band playing commercially oriented rock music. Ballroom Blitz and Hellraiser are choons to die for...

Ah Ha common ground at last. Never given the credit which they deserved. Some really decent stuff that many don't know about.

PS. back on thread 14 goals in how many games from midfield last season? Think he'd work well with Mc Mahon, I'd have Willo back

Wasnt he Taggarts brother or is that an urban myth ?
I remember having Teenage Rampage delivered by post after collecting tokens from bags of Smiths Crisps :)

Pompey fan's view on Williamson (and Howard) here: http://www.portsmouth.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=532488#ixzz2HN7E6p7M. Seems they thought they were signing "the best player in League One". Ooops.
Bloody hell, I feel like scrooge, as all I seem to be doing at the moment is moaning. Sorry, but here I go again with another moan and groan...

I am not trying to round on any one individual(s), and do not like singling people out, but what has happened to Lee Williamson?

His signing was viewed as something of 'a coup' when we got him in the summer. I admit that I was 'pleasantly surprised' at the time.

With him billed as 'the best player in league one' I have been left thinking league one is not up to much!

Why was he so keen to up sticks and leave Sheffield United, where he managed a shed load of goals, for Pompey?

There appears little to no goal threat from him this season, I can barely even recall an effort at goal! There also appears to be minimal effort, or interest, to do much else either to boot!

Are we playing him so badly out of position that it is having such an impact on him?

That said, like I previously mentioned in another article about the players in general, 'the basics' of being a footballer that are required from him should be a given, and a bit of effort and commitment, should be possible, even a given being played 'out of position' or not!

Speaking of playing out of position, funnily enough his most impressive games for me came when he was played at right back...

I hope he makes me eat my words, and by all accounts he was much improved in the 2nd half the other day, but as it stands I can quite safely say that Williamson - and he is not alone by any means, Brian Howard (among others) I am most definitely talking about you my friend! - would be shown the door when his existing monthly contract ends if it were up to me.

I thought that too but apparently not.
Mark "Taggart" McManus was actually the nephew of Brian's foster father.

Dumbaya was dreadful last Friday at Walsall, looked like a park footballer.

only players I would welcome back would be Jags, Lowton and the 2 Kyles

Looks like Willo backed the wrong team, out of work from next week.

From today's Sun:
Portsmouth have had a huge turnover of players this season.
Since the end of last term when they were relegated to League One, the struggling Fratton Park outfit have seen a staggering 32 members of playing staff leave on transfers or at the end of their contracts.
And they have signed 33 new faces on free transfers or loan deals from other clubs in just six months.
Despite being just eight days into the New Year, three of the 12 calendar stars remain at the club — Laurie Walker, Ashley Harris and Adam Webster.
The nine players who are no longer at Portsmouth include Josh Thompson, Luke Rodgers, Jack Compton, Izale Mcleod and Reading loanee Mikkel Anderson.
Meanwhile, Mustapha Dumbaya, Jon Harley, Lee Williamson and captain Brian Howard have reportedly been told their contracts will not be renewed next week.

Wasn't Inspector Wexford Jimmy Page's surrogate father and didn't Bergerac suckle The Who when they were babies.....? Or did I just dream all that after eating cheese.....?

All I can say is HaHaHa this has amused me no end

It does confirm all you ever thought about footballers' intelligence. One assumes that, even if United were offering less salary wise that Portsmouth were willing to offer, they were offering at least a two year contract. Even if Posrtmouth were offering a greater salary any fule with half a brain could see that this would not last.

Exactly, looking at it from a plebs point of view, If i was offered a job guaranteed for 2 years on less money than somewhere else which was a one month rolling contract I'd bite their arm off. It would have to be a LOT of money to make me consider the rolling contract, possibly it was a huge amount p-mouth were offering but still. Also take into account his horrendous injury record and it makes no sense whatsoever

Apparently rumour is we have offered him a short term deal to return to us.

I hope not.

We are missing a player on the right handside to allow us to make Blackman more flexible. He might have been a complete dick but he will be the one eating humble pie
