Will we get any points from the Big Six?

Spurs away last time in the PL was a true lesson. They coasted to 2-0 and then just passed the ball around us. We’re a different prospect this time around though.
 
Away: Man City, Liverpool, Spurs, 0pt. Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal 1pt.
Home: Man City, Liverpool, Spurs 1pt. Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal 3pts.

Away prediction: Lucky chance. Home, hopefully.

To add though about the top 6: Remove, the stars, the star manager, the wins, the top 6 finish, and Chelsea are just a boring non-entity club that has little home based support and history. If they are not careful, and Lampard doesn't spark, they will soon find their global appeal shrink to nothing.
Those posters and fake shirts in Africa and Asia will soon be consigned to the bin.

True, although I remember a classic 1-0 win at home to Arsenal in 1981 in the League Cup, Bobby Hatton got the winner!

Good point.

These days there are stats about everything (and I used to be a stats fan in younger years), but these days I just turn off. MOTD now specialise in mostly pointless stats before the game.

This would be an interesting one though. And other than the major downers like Sunderland Derby and to some modern extent Udders last year, teams must get some points.

The big 6 last time we were up here for a time in the 90s, I never feared any game. I saw us beat Chelsea away, draw, and relegate us (though that's unfortunately the one stuck in my mind.) I remember going to Anfield and winning.

Away: perhaps a point or 2 with a draw, unlikely to win any, so any win straight away would add 3 points to the tally that we haven't counted for in the safety number of points. I think possibly Chelsea is the best chance as closest, and we won't fear them.

Home: Hopefully at least 1 win, but I'd probably take a draw vs any of them (pre-match)

After Saturday, I think much more positively. Points against all these teams (arguably Bournemouth being amongst the higher placed potential 'drop teams') will keep us up if we beat most of the rest at home, aswell.

Only possible worry I saw on MOTD, was how easily Watford were torn apart by Brighton. Watford are quite established, and were thrashed at home.

Watford are probably the lowest of all premier league clubs confidence wise ,they have just been smashed in a cup final and there's a real dark cloud hanging over the club

Yes, after the programme, I put Watford on the must get 3pts at home and realistically a game we want a point from away (and also as a possible 3 pointer)

Like I said in the 90s it was different, we took away points from the big boys (not so much big spenders in them days, hence said boys rather than big 6)



It's new for the young ones (0-12) and they will be loving this! It doesn't seem like 2 mins since I was at lane in last prem season... but the seasons in division 3, I thought never out of. I didn't lose hope as kid, but as adult, I genuinely thought we could end up being a Notts County type thing like in the early 80s when I started going. Still went of course, but less so over time, especially since not in walking distance of ground, and complicated ticketing.

I'm happy now listening on the radio and thinking how much my friend's kids on the family stand are enjoying it. They saw all crap seasons too. (need to evolve BL though, as these are now wanting to sing, but it's not 'really done' in the JS, and enforced by the OXO police. Last match I went to, they took a flask of a lad who is there every week, and quite clearly has several learning difficulties, and send 4 stewards up (female ones, probably so it didn't look too bad... and they took the flask off them, as not allowed flasks, and said come after match to place x and we will return it.

Football used to be an escape for me, but now I'd rather attempt to log into HMRC than attempt to get a genuine ticket without enormous hassle. And it's been this way since the internet took off, I think. It's around the same time at least.
 
Any points we can pick up against the ‘big 6’ will be a bonus.
I reckon we can take a few points especially at home against.

Chelsea are a shadow of the club 2 years ago due to their embargo. So that works in our favour this season.
Arsenal are in transition from a long period of Wenger. Also don’t look the side they were.

So, Man City, Man U, Liverpool and Spurs are the ones at the moment. Realistically it’s defeat away from home, without doubt.
Spurs and Man U ...we might be able to sneak a point at home, but being fair I would just be surprised if we manage to score a single goal!!

But we won’t be getting relegated due to scoring zero points in those 8 games. It will be from failing to beat half the other 16 sides at least once. There’s nothing to fear from them, and in some ways the games against The other relegation threatened sides will be the hardest due to the pressure these will have if we don’t go into every game against those 16 sides with the confidence and arrogance that we will win.

I actually think the fixture list has worked out well for us.

A winable away game first, but take a point - done, and put in a good performance (2 mins before the game, I thought, 'please don't get thrashed 5-0!)
A winable first home game.
Not too bad with Leicester next.

I was thinking hope for 4 points at least from these, 1 down, 2 bashes at winning at home. :)

(or course either could hammer us at home) but, given Chelsea current status, is a good first 'big 6' away game.

Like above said big 4 really, it's really big 2 with Man City and Liv.

I'll accept another 6-0 at home to Spurs. Not being greedy though, I'd take 5-0

We will lose more than we win, the important thing is not to lose big like Norwich and West Ham last weekend. Our last experience of the Premier League should tell us the importance of maintaining a healthy goal difference.
 
Chelsea’s worldwide search for a new manager, ended with them appointing the 6th best manager in the Championship.....
 
All the also-rans are quite capable of beating each other at home. But it’s those precious away wins that makes all the difference.
 
Our mini league is where we should be focusing, but the manager should tell them they've nothing to lose against the so called big teams, I'd be more disappointed losing 1_0 at home to Watford than 4_0:away at anfield...

I think Wilder will go for every point in the first ten fixtures, we get a good start in the first 5 we can then build on that.. taking on the top 6 is a huge task and I'm glad we've got the fixtures we have because we can gauge ourselves better..
 
The way Spurs are playing I wish we were playing them sooner, what are the odds on them introducing a new manager for their game against us?
 
I'm fairly sure there will be more than one positive 'surprise' against a 'big 6' club this season. Our defence is strong, teams can't get many goals past them, Wilder has focussed on this.

Looking forward to home games v Arsenal and Man U. We're off to a great start this season, pundits who predicted Blades can't hack it in the Premiership obviously didn't spend much time watching us over the last three seasons, 2018-19 in particular.

I don't want to sound cocky, but I've seen nothing to fear when it comes to the top 6
 
Man Utd are currently the one so called big six team that I fear the least at the moment. They're out of form, toothless up front and are feared through reputation from former glories. They're miles off being title contenders and don't look capable of a top four finish. They'd be lucky if they finish in the top six the way they've playing. It shows just how much times have changed when a newly promoted side have nothing to fear from one of the biggest clubs in the country.
 
We'll win one or maybe two away from home. Maybe even man utd? They look average and we'll pose them problems. Look at palace.
I'd expect a few home draws and a win at minimum.

I'll only shit myself against man city away and maybe even Leicester based on their recent results.

Yep I remember that, I was there. Gascoigne was playing for them and there was some "banter" between him and Bassett as he'd called him "Sir Harry of Long Ball" or summat mildly insulting like that. :D
