Will we get any points from the Big Six?

Yes our season will be determined by our results against the other 13 teams, but it would be a good bonus to get something out of our games against the 'Big Six'.
Having now seen all the teams in action this weekend, I certainly think Arsenal and Chelsea are nothing special. Chelsea looked blunt up front, I was surprised to see Abraham start, for Arsenal Aubameyang will be a headache but have a lot of average players. Our first Big Six test is in three weeks against Chelsea, I predict an upset!
 



Expect us to lose all 6 away from home, although with VAR we should stand a better chance.
But at the Lane going back to the 80’s we never seem to lose at home to Liverpool, Arsenal or Spurs.
 
Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Man Utd are certainly capable of dropping the odd bollock away from home and drawing or losing against an unfancied team. Even the top 2 have off days, City lost at Newcastle and Leicester and at home to palace last year.
 
I’d be disappointed if we didn’t get points from Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea at home.
Also think we could grab a surprise away win at one of them.
 
Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal should not be feared. They all have some stand out performers but as teams I expect them to struggle to perform consistently over the season. Add the pressure on each of their respective managers and I can see us causing them some problems. I think we will beat at least one of those at home, and maybe, possibly beat another away, with a draw thrown in somewhere.

As for Citeh, the Scousers and Spurs, hard to see us getting too much but again, a draw or 2 may be possible.

As I expect us to be in the top six after the Palace game will we then become one of the "big six"?
 
watching match of the days over the weekend (and paying attention to all games which havent done for 12 years !)
there are some great players that can hurt you but mainly when the oppostion make poor mistakes /lose the ball in poor positions - if we stay focussed and disciplined we can certainly hurt/threaten allot of teams at home and away imo

love the way Grealish was lauded for having a good game for Villa on motd but they failed to mention him f###ng about with the ball and losing it just outside their own box for spurs to make it 2-1 !!
 



Personally i'd be amazed if we got anything out of Citeh, Spurs or the Bin Dippers. Might scrape a point at home against one of them if they have an off day but can't see all 3 having off days at our place.

The other 3 i'd be quietly confident at home and the possibility of a point away, again if they have an off day.

Everyone keeps going on about how much the Prem has changed since we were last in it but IMO it's all relative as i truly believe this team with this manager would hammer our last Prem team and we took points off the big 6 that season.
 
We're playing Chelsea at the right time. I think Frank is gonna be shite as manager, so could easily see us pinching something there.

I also think we'll nick a draw at Arsenal. And a draw at home vs Man Utd.

The media and Frank-friendly pundits won't have it, given the 'great job' he did at Derby.

Actually they finished with 1 point less and 1 position lower, than the season before (under Rowett), but of course no need for yer' proper facts in Punditland.
 
I think Chelsea is the most likely team we can get something from and we'll probably be playing them at the right time too.

Although to balance that - FL will be familiar with our style of play having faced his Derby side twice last season so will be interesting to see if he'll manage to nullify us.

We did well against Liverpool on our return to top flight but the time before think it was 3-1 at home to Liverpool, Ian Rush injured Simon Tracey putting him out for months. Set the tone for our poor run up to the new year when we started turning it around.

Not sure I remember us playing them much through the 80s, we were troubling lesser teams in divisions 4,3 and 2.
 
Some might say we won't get anything against these clubs.
But Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal will not do a complete whitewash of all the clubs in the bottom eight either. They'll all drop points against a couple of them.
There's 36 points available against these teams, even if we can pick up five or six points against them it will go a hell of a long way towards helping us.

Having said that, in 2006-07 we got 1 point against Liverpool, 1 point against Man City (before the money) 3 points against Arsenal and 3 points against Spurs.
So we got eight points against those teams and still went down.

It's also best not to forget that the mid range clubs who we hope to get points from are much better now than they were in 2006-07

I think City and Liverpool look formidable. Not sure about Spurs. We’ve given them Jesse boys a good run for their money before when a League 1 team.

Owt’s possible, some things are probable, nothing is certain. That’s the best way to look at it!🤔
 
Fancy us to get something off Spurs at home. The lane has never been a happy hunting ground for them. Maybe something off Chelsea in both games.Can't remember ever getting anything off Arsenal in the past, bogey team for us, but maybe someone will post differently. Be happy to get away with moderate defeats against the top two. Manure? Depends on if Ole transforms them, maybe a point at the lane.
 



From 28 December to the end of January, we have a bit of a nightmare fixture list. With the exception of W. Ham at home, we play a top 6 club every week.
By then, we will hopefully be recognised for our football style, but we won't be surprising teams anymore.
On the plus side, the new signings will have settled in and Wider will know more about or strengths and weaknesses, and he will have fine tuned our tactics.
Let's hope we are inundated with offers for top players to join us in the window, and play for peanuts, just to be in a great footballing side. ;)
