As far as reinforcements go?

Or has saturday's result shocked everyone at the club to the core - and we will see more through the door (both in and out)?

We need more, even if they're just short loans, but I have a feeling that may be it.

We have now brought in 4 new players and have only let one go. We have a squad of 30+ players.

Out of those 30 we have some real talent (Adams, Sharp, McNulty, Murphy, Reed, Flynn, Done) and Adkins has gone some way to addressing the height issue. (We now have Sammon, Woolford, Basham, Collins, Edgar all over 6ft and all realistically could start the next league game)

My point is there has to be a point when the board says 'no' this is what you have now work with it.

I believe since the Prince has taken over the fans really can't have much to grumble about in terms of signings and keeping hold of players and attracting a higher calibre of Manager.

For the record I think we need another CB and another MD and maybe a GK but surely we can't get anymore in until some are sent out?

Think we've let go of more than one?

There were about 5 released in the summer weren't there?

Doyle
Ben Davies
Iain Turner
Holt went back
Steve Davies went back

Yep, we need to clear out some players who will otherwise never be playing. It will be better too for producing cohesion among the remaining playing staff. Managing 30+ people directly and properly is a tough ask in any business. Sending them out on loan might be a quick way of doing that just to get them out of the way until someone else wants to sign them permanently.

Think the two processes need to be working simultaneously tbh. We can't really be waiting on others picking up our cast-offs before making signings vital to this season's success (another C/H, a GK, a midfielder with real presence) - although it presents a perfect excuse for inaction.

There's got to be incomings, there's got to be outgoings - it just doesn't really matter what order they're in, so long as the incomings happen soon.

So five of our first teamers move on frees and they end up in lg2 x2, Scottish championship, Conference, Mediocre league one side. Makes you wonder where the rest of the shite left by clough would end up if released. Adkins has a big rebuilding Job on his hands hope he gets time off us all to do it .

Why don't we put salmon in as CB he is tall and instead of him heading the ball towards goal he just has to head it away from goal, simples;)

We need another commanding, nasty, CH together with a CM (if Wallace isn't fit ) and possibly a GK as well.

We also need to loan out Baxter, Scougal and a few of the other "fringe" players to clear the decks a bit as we have so many players its confusing NA !!
UTB & FTP

We have a squad of 30+ players.

The wages for Sammon, Sharp and Egdar must be pushing us towards the FFP ceiling with that size of squad. Until we can get rid of some of the dross I think we are going to be hard pushed to get many or any more in. I suspect Collins is on a fair whack because of when his contract was signed.

I suspect this may be the issue. I'm not convinced the board were prepared to bite the bullet and get the players in before they shipped some out. But I'm not sure which of our fit players we can get rid of.

Realistically, we're unlikely to be paying off the majority of players, unless there's one or two close to the end of their contracts who Adkins really wants to get rid of.

So we need to finish our recruitment, get in what we need, see if any of the current players have the bollocks to rise to the challenge of competition for their places and fuck the rest off as and when we can, be it on loan or permanent.

It will be costly but probably less so than not getting promoted. If the board can't grasp this, we're fucked.

Yep - too many players, this has been building for some time though. Too many mediocre players.

So as others have said, some need moving on, loans if need be.

Keep;

Brayford
Harris
Freeman
Reed
Scougall
Basham
Mceverly
Edgar
Kennedy
Murphy
Flynn
Sharp
Adams
Sammon
Done
Woolford
McNulty
Howard

Rest get loaned out! Or get rid!

I was thinking about the FFP and getting rid of some of the dross... Allowing Clough those first few weeks after the season end means we took up options on a few we could have shown the door.

I understand what you mean but there could be potential to cause unrest in the camp by acquiring players whilst others are not moved on and just keep getting pushed further down the pecking order. That and there must be a limit to our finances where wages are concerned?

You are correct but weren't they released before Adkins? Perhaps I should have been more specific on the OP... Sorry about that.

I expected Adkins to bring another player in probably on a season long loan deal again as he said that he likes to bring players in this way to run the rule over them and see whether they are up to scratch before signing them permanently. Don't quote me on it but I am sure post Sharp / Sammon that he mentioned bringing a few more in?

If the players don't like it and are kicking off or moping, make them train with the kids like Jackett did at Wolves. It's infinitely better than not bringing players in and relying on useless twats.

The financial limits will be set by the board and based on income plus what they're prepared to invest.

I'm merley posing possible scenarios....not saying who's right and wrong.... We can't sign an entire new starting 11 when was the last time somebody did that? ....

Watford?

I agree though, I don't think we're need 11 players, just a couple of CHs. Or rather I didn't think we did but Adkins seems to want to play very differently from how we did and in a way that leaves many of our players redundant.
So, tbh, I don't know wtf's going on.

Agreed lets just hope for a positive reaction Saturday.

I think Watford would be a pretty close call.

By far the biggest in the division. It might have changed quite a bit now but I looked at the squad lists a bit back for the 10 clubs I though might be challenging and the average was 24. We had 33 at the time, that is now 36 I think. Nearest was Peterborough with 30. It can't be sustainable and has to be a limiting factor on what the current manager is allowed to do.
