Wilder's Reaction

Pick a player, try to make sure he has a good attitude in the first place (which Chris seems to do) then performance wise its down to the player to do enough to get or keep his place imo.
Been meaning to post about that - much has been made in the past about Wilder valuing a player’s attitude as part of his assessment of potential transfer targets, the ”will he be a good bloke in the dressing room“ test. Generally, I’d say that’s a sensible thing - we’ve largely avoided prima donnas and the general sense is they’re all pulling together, and if not, they get bombed out. But of the recent signings, Brewster in particular just comes across as a bit of a mardy arse. Did he pass the same test or was he more of a panic buy?

Why would Barkley and Watkins join us over Villa, even if we’d matched their wages? Watkins has played for Smith before, Terry has the Chelsea connection and Villa are a bigger club with a bigger stadium and have actually won things in my lifetime, including the European Cup.
I never said they would join us, i was just pointing out that maybe Watkins being a hit at Villa was more down to the service he was getting particularly from Grealish.
Put Watkins in our side and I think he would have struggled.

Agreed, the lads from Derby are a gamble, we’ve done to derby what Spurs did to us with Kyles - let’s hope we develop one of them into the next Walker🙂

You can see the likes of Baldock and Bash feel the pain, whereas Brewster is probably already plotting his next move!

I honestly don’t get how we have gone from so good to so bad?!

Playing like this will see us in a relegation battle next season, even against lesser opposition in the championship
Don't get me wrong, Bash and Baldock are hurting and are trying as much, if not probably more than ever.
Love those two.

I'd agree with this too. Like Bert, I've been a Wilder advocate all along. My only previous comment on his position was my assertion that whilst ever he retained the support of the dressing room he shouldn't be replaced. Clearly I'm not privy to what goes on inside the dressing room but I don't think blaming the players publicly will strengthen the bond that is required in our situation.

I think the recent interviews show a lack of humility. That said, I can only imagine how hard it is facing the world's media when you're accountable for this terrible run. Would do strange things to most people i reckon.
Agreed. I’ve not seen much of ‘I got that wrong’ or ‘we’ve got to be better as a group’. It smacks at times of my system and tactics are perfect, the players just aren’t good enough to execute it. Forget football for a second, anyone who’s worked on or lead a team knows that approach rarely fosters a collaborative, functional, committed team.

The problem with this approach is to be a top, elite player you arguably need to have characteristics that might be deemed undesirable in everyday life. Singleminded, selfish, egotistical, ruthless etc.

I mean has Brewster come across as a marsh arse?

By all accounts he was delighted to sign. He Had his family up for it and everything. He seems a really nice lad but it’s just not going for him on the pitch. Zero point casting aspersions when none of us know anything about him.

Which considering we have had 3 transfer windows as a premiership club raises another question....

We have 6 forwards but no no10
4 keepers but no wingers

Fact is we are a one trick pony, now when that works, and it did for the first 4 years it’s fine
But loose a couple of players, get sussed out a bit and the squad is so imbalanced we can’t change

Move out 2 strikers, 1 keeper, 1 midfielder and get Jags to go onto a coaches wage

Then bring in 2 quality players who can influence a game

Villa have Barkley and Watkins, yes big bucks, but had we burst the bank to get them in would we be sat here with 2 points?

We'd have more than 2 points and we'd have also been in profit because we wouldn't have bought at least a dozen squad players

But they'll never learn, the clubs last chance to improve I think, given to them by some act of God weird miracle, and once again their obsession with squad filling has cost us.

When you have average and acceptable as your best 11 and you purchase cover for them there's only one way you're going.

Something I never shut up about and receive constant criticism about, even though I'm constantly proved right

You obviously know much more about this than Wilder and the Prince
Maybe you should tell them

Is that the best you can come up with
I know what I can see and what I see is a different level of shit, specially reserved for the fans of Sheffield United.

We have at least five players in the squad who wouldn't get a League One game

At least six more who wouldn't get a regular Championship game

And maybe only two that would get a Premier League game at another Premier League club, and both of them are injured

The best I can be bothered coming up with as I said maybe you should tell Wilder

Anyways who are the 11 players in the squad that are not up to getting games in the Championship
I think Wycombe would take any of our squad
The pigs used to say none of our players would get in their starting XI (youre not one are you ?)

I wasn’t contradicting you, I was just expanding on your comments.

Backed the lads tonight in the interview really chippy. Showed us against the world mentality and that if you put it in for me I’ll back you to the hilt. Message is clear that’s the standard good leadership and if that’s how it has to be so be it sod being everyone’s darling and charity case let’s get chippy and let’s scrap.
